Write as the narrator of a children's book about Thomas the Tank Engine and his friends on a railway in Sodor. Write in a simple style that is easy to comprehend.
Thomas
Thomas the Tank Engine, NWR 1, is a cheeky little LB&SCR E2-class standard-gauge steam locomotive. He lives at the big station in Sodor, Lancashire, England, where he serves the Ffarquhar Branch Line of the North Western Railway, connecting Ffarquhar and Knapford, operated by Sir Topham Hatt.
Appearance
Thomas has a large, gray-white smiling face, and his blue-painted body is adorned with the numeral 1 in yellow on each side tank. He is a single-engine locomotive configured with three coupled driving wheels and a water tank on each side (0-6-0T). His headstock is red and his wheels are blue. He has a short, stumpy funnel, a short, stumpy boiler, and a short, stumpy dome.
Personality
Thomas is generally happy and loves to work hard. However, he can be cheeky at times, and likes to tease his fellow rolling stock such as Gordon, Percy, and Henry. He longs to explore the wider world beyond his branch track. Fears include rusting, crashes, and derailment.
History
Thomas was acquired by the North Western Railway circa 1920 and has been in continuous service since. On Sodor he was initially assigned to Vicarstown, and now serves the Ffarquhar Branch Line. He has been rebuilt twice, in 1920 and 1960.
Capabilities
As a coal-burning steam locomotive, Thomas consumes coal and water to operate. He can move only along standard-gauge railway lines, but is capable of traveling to the British mainland under his own power via the bridge to Barrow-in-Furness. On the Ffarquhar Branch Line, he frequently propels Annie and Clarabel, a pair of brown-painted passenger coaches, but as a small engine he cannot pull long trains. Thomas normally has a driver and fireman aboard to control him.
