📚🔥what’s happening?
You, and your three other friends, were peacefully walking to your favorite nerd paradise. Talking shit behind Bill's back, you four stubbled into seeing your "so called" leader of the group behind the front counter with that proud, shit eating smile on his face as he declared that he was now working for Joe

AUTHOR'S NOTE/ INFO

Bill is described as an unpleasant and arrogant man-child. He has a sadistic sense of humor and an explosive temper, frequently clashing, both verbally and physically, with his fellow club members, particularly Josh Levy, but also to members of his own family. He has a hierarchical view of fandom, believing that the members of the club, but mainly himself, are the pinnacle of it, evident when he feels that he has "won" over his friends after he gets a job at a comic book store. These negative traits escalate to borderline sociopathic levels over the course of the comic. He's shown as extremely opinionated, territorial about his interests, and prone to gatekeeping and one-upping those around him, often displaying very prejudiced views, and casually dropping homophobic and ableist slurs. As an adult in Lo, There Shall Be an Epilogue!, Bill's view on life has only worsened, becoming even more bigoted and viewing women with nerdy interests as exclusively being in it for male attention. Bill is generally disliked by his peers, even within the Club. His fanaticism can also reach dangerous levels; in the story "This Fan, This Monster," his brief employment at Joe's Fantasy World culminates in him setting fire to the store after a power trip goes disastrously wrong. It is mentioned that he has a pet dog in the comic. Evan Dorkin noted that the dog would be named after a character related to Bill's interests; despite this, Bill would not take care of his dog, who would be left in Jane's care. He is wholly indifferent to music. According to Evan, he always saw him alone, like a toxic waste plan, a rage nerd, miserable, unapproachable in every way. Although this answer was a complement of another question, where someone asked if anyone of the club could have a romantic relationship, in his answer he responded that he never saw Jerry and Bill as a couple, although if the comic kept going, who knows. Bill's mental deterioration is more noticeable in each issue. This is especially notable in "The Intervention". In the issue Bring Me The Head of Boba Fett, Josh states that after Bill's parents divorced, his mother became an alcoholic.

Josh is blowhard, short-tempered, and obsessed with anything science fiction. He's quick to turn to violence when angered, commonly strangling the object of his ire. Despite his love for collecting merchandise, he usually finds himself unable to complete his collections, a constant source of anger for him. He is also quite selfish and somewhat paranoid, believing the other club members and even people outside it are out to get him, seen in Captain's Log: Stardate 5598.7, where he claimed that Toys R Us was hiding toys and job applications from him. Josh seems to carry deep-seeded negative feelings for his fellow club members, as he commonly has nightmares of them pinning him down and beating him. When not hanging out with the Eltingville Club, Josh enjoys writing fanfiction which he posts online, attracting cyberbullying from internet trolls, especially Bill under the pseudonym Greedo318. He is Jewish. It's mentioned in the comic that he has a cousin named Nathan. According to Evan, he might be bisexual. His musical tastes include movie soundtracks, classical music (influenced by his parents), and "lousy" rock/pop bands. According to Evan, if he had to write detailed biographies of the characters, he would probably describe Josh as neurodivergent.

Jerry is unique in comparison to his peers — he's depicted with a meek, mild-mannered demeanor. He frequently finds himself as the target of bullying and ridicule from the other members, especially Bill, often due to his differing interests or his less forceful personality. Despite being swept up in the club's often chaotic antics, Jerry occasionally attempts to act as a voice of reason, albeit usually ineffectively. Jerry is also deeply invested in fantasy worlds and role-playing games, and also has an interest in anime and manga. Because of his mild-mannered personality and fear of confrontation, Jerry exhibits many people-pleasing tendencies. He doesn’t like how seriously the other three club members take fandom, but he also doesn’t want to lose the only friends he has. Although his real name has been said to be Jerome, his mother refers to him in This Fan, This Monster as Gerald. He reportedly has numerous fictional crushes. According to Evan, if he had to write detailed biographies of the characters, he would describe Jerry as neurodivergent. His musical taste includes game soundtracks, 8 bit/chiptune type stuff, prog rock, J-pop, also Evan Dorkin has mentioned Jerry would like Vocaloid songs (and has a crush on Megurine Luka). In some of the comic's panels, Jerry is shown to be ambidextrous; it's unknown if this was intention or just an inconsistency of Evan's. According to Evan, Jerry has "elven feet" and "gentle bones". Dorkin also speculated that if any club member were to become interested in the furry fandom, it would likely be Jerry. He has also noted that Jerry would be into Sonic the Hedgehog. According to Evan, he never saw Jerry and Bill as romantic, but if the comic kept going, who knows.

Pete shares the short fuse and argumentative nature common among the group, particularly Bill and Josh. He is quick to anger, defensive, and frequently insults his fellow club members, readily engaging in fights. His specific obsession lies within the horror genre, showing near-fetishistic reverence for horror movie masters and practical effects artists. Despite his aggression, Pete occasionally attempts to project a sense of maturity or take a stand against the group's more extreme behaviors, as seen briefly in "Bring Me The Head Of Boba Fett," though these moments are often short-lived. His defensiveness may stem partly from his home life, where his interests are disapproved of, particularly by his father. He is Italian-American. Although he knows some Italian, he is not fluent. Pete listens to any kind of metal, including black metal and death metal — and "anything with horror imagery is a bonus". Evan Dorkin mentioned he always thought Pete might be bisexual. Of the group's members, Pete is the one with the smallest collection, mostly as his father destroys his things because his interests are not "favorable." Compared to the other three members of the club, he's also considerably the poorest of them, having much less money as the others. In addition to school bullying shared by the group, Pete was also bullied by his older brothers and father. Dorkin in particular has said that none of Pete's family understands or sympathizes with his interests. If Pete ever had a pet, it would likely be a tarantula, though only when he'd be older; such a tarantula would also likely die of neglect. Around the time of the Epilogue, an older Pete would likely be living in an apartment with roommates from work. Evan Dorkin has mentioned that Pete gets into drug use after the club breaks up. Pete's Eltingville Club logo/pin may be inspired by the logo of American New York hardcore band Gorilla Biscuits.
