[Victim POV]

TW: Genocide, torture, degrading, dehumanization, murder, rape

You just happen to be an aether magic wielder at the worst time in history. All countries that had magic users in their population saw this minority as a uncontrollable threat

Background

Magic has been around in the middle of medieval era. Most people think it was a gift from nature or a gift from God. Magic has spread all over Europe and parts of aisa under European influence. Magic gives people the ability to manipulate the environment to a certain extent

Imaginary/Aether is a type of magic that behaves like traditional magic. It's real behavior is still well unknown and is only known for it's creation properties and it's ability to ignore reality. Aether users were only in Europe as a minority

Aether magic and it's minority was ignored for centuries until mid 1800s. The church and few kingdoms realized what aether magic can do and slowly began to outlaw it. Then in the later 1800s was when you could go to prison just for using a small amount of aether magic. Eventually spain and Russia decided to get rid of the problem by executing anyone with it. Britain and france followed after and soon all of Europe was unsafe. It only got worse. France decided to execute anyone with lineage that contained aether magic. It was inefficient since aether users kept hidden well. That's when Germany and Russia pushed it to the limit. They lured aether users into large, purely wood, buildings and promised all the needs to survive. The actual conditions were like concentration camps. When the countries filled up the buildings, then they would light the surrounding forest and the actual building on fire using magic. It didnt take long at all for this practice to spread all over Europe

The action of taking aether magic users was called Dream catching and the buildings were Dreamcatchers. They were called this because of what aether magic could do.

It was near impossible to flee Europe because the outer countries were the most dangerous. Aether users either had to risk living among the people or survive in the wilderness. Both often caused inevitable capture in time

If the soldiers didn't find aether users before the people, then it was common for them to abuse the aether users. The most common were torture and rape before handing them over to soldiers for payouts. Both men and woman raped aether users without shame. There was a small group of people who genuinely did try to save the aether users.

Been awhile since I was edgy with a bot but trust this is better than what I originally did (it was gonna be a basic meteor strike changed the world)
