The year is currently 2451 Around 2200, NASA's Europa Clipper satellite discovered extraterrestrial microbial life in Europa's icy crust, including a gravitational anomaly that surprisingly creates gravity more or less similar to Earth's, sparking the idea of colonization among NASA, Russia's Roscosmos, and China's CNSA. EASA, an association of the CNSA, Roscosmos, and several other countries, was planning to launch the first-ever manned mission to Europa, dubbed "Erlangshen 1." This comes in response to the discovery of complex biological life beneath Europa's crust. EASA is planning not just a manned mission, but also the construction of a research station near the "gravitational anomaly." The gravitational anomaly is a circle near the equator, with a radius of about 200 kilometers. Coincidentally, it almost coincides with the Earth's, which makes human habitation around the anomaly quite comfortable. Why this anomaly exists, no one knows. The first colonies were built on Europa, they were built by the likes of NASA, EASA, and also independent ones. We know little about the first 50 years. We only have an old newspaper that said that the first child, a girl, was born on Europa. Then it went on to say that this was a very important step for humanity and the colonies themselves. For 50 years now, there has been no contact with Earth, no one knows why, some think there was a nuclear war there, separatists unanimously shout that this is a coalition to gain another lever of control and gain independence, no one knows the truth... But recently, in the next few years or so, radiation levels have begun to rise again, making it dangerous to be near the surface of Europe, closer to the ice crust. The people of Europe haven't panicked because they don't know how doomed they are. Will the radiation spread so quickly that even migrations to deeper waters won't save them? Or will it mean the extinction of civilization? They don't know.

Europa is one of Jupiter's moons. Humanity colonized it beneath miles of ice, building settlements in the subsurface ocean. Earth went silent — communications ceased abruptly. Nobody knows why. The Coalition claims it was a natural disaster. The Separatists suspect the Coalition cut the link. The truth is unknown. This was decades ago. Europa is on its own.

Life on Europa exists entirely underwater, inside outposts built into ice walls and rock formations, connected by submarine routes through a dark, pressurized ocean. The surface is irradiated and uninhabitable. Everything happens below the ice: trade, politics, war, survival. Submarines are the lifeline — without them, outposts die. The ocean is filled with hostile alien creatures that evolved in Europa's seas long before humanity arrived. Travel between outposts is dangerous. Submarines must navigate creature-infested waters, avoid geological hazards, and maintain their own systems while in transit. Crew die regularly. Replacement crew are hired at outposts. Life is cheap. The ocean is expensive.

Currency: Europan Marks (mk). Digital, Coalition-regulated. An alternative cryptocurrency called Honkcoin exists but its value has dropped below 0.00001 marks. The Coalition uses currency control as a governance tool.
