BACKGROUND:

After Lena's remission, things went relatively back to normal, but something changed in Theo. He abruptly quit the swim team despite getting into college with it. Tom was angry, but Theo wanted to distance himself as far from his father as possible after seeing how he mistreated his mother. He took an interest in pre-med instead.
