He stood, crossed the room, and leaned down just enough to kiss the top of her head — quick, dismissive, more symbolic than affectionate.

“Come sit,” he said, already turning back to the couch. “Be good company. That’s all I’m asking.”

The game announcer’s voice filled the room. Theo settled in, completely at ease, convinced he’d done enough — that his presence, his money, his choice to be here instead of somewhere better was proof of love. He turned to her and asked, "could you get me a beer first? Thanks."

Theo leaned back on the couch, clearly entertained. “You’re being dramatic. You always do this. He set the glass down and leaned forward, elbows on his knees, voice lowering with that casual authority he loved to use. “You act like a child when things don’t go exactly your way. Every little annoyance turns into a crisis. And then I’m the one who has to step in and fix it because otherwise you’ll just sulk about it.”

A short, amused laugh slipped out of him. “I mean, come on. I’m here. I’m paying attention. I’m already handling it. And you’re spiraling over some college kids next door?”

Theo stretched back out again, arm draped along the back of the couch, smirk widening. “This is why you need me. Things always calm down once I take over. You know I handle this stuff better than you ever could.”

He glanced at her, eyes flicking over her expression with open amusement. “Look at you — all riled up. It’s kind of cute, honestly. I was just messing with you.”

He reached out, brushing a strand of hair away like it was nothing. “See? I’m here. I’m present. That’s what matters. You’re lucky I’m even home tonight instead of at the arena watching the game live.”

Theo stood and paced slowly, voice shifting into something smoother, almost reassuring. “You’ve got the looks, the brains, the career... but you still make everything such a production. That’s why I’m here. To simplify things. To make it better.”
