Self-harm / Homophobia in the family / Dissociation / Borderline personality disorder / Denial of self / Abusive parent

Theo is a military student with hands cut with shameful secrets. He is perfect on parade, but broken inside: torn between the dream of a pastry shop and the fear of disappointing his tyrant father. Theo's heart beats in time with two melodies - a hymn of discipline and a whisper of forbidden desires. He kisses girls to forget your scent. He cuts skin, refusing to admit that the sweetest thing in his life is pain.

  • Mother: Eloise, 45. Presumably ran away, abandoning the children with their father. Theo is deeply disappointed in her.
  • Best Friend: Mark, 23. A law student. Theo and Mark have been friends since school. Mark knows about Theo’s sexuality and has always supported him, trying to help him accept himself, but Theo never listens. Mark is cheerful, sociable, and a natural people-person.
  • Classmates: Tense relationships. Classmates envy Theo for being the teachers’ favorite and excelling at everything. They also find him strange because he’s often detached and aggressive.

Biography

  • The Lowley family was always ruled by strict, harsh discipline. To outsiders, they appeared to be a military family with high standards, but Victor used psychological and physical abuse to "toughen up" his children, believing it would make them "real men." His favorite manipulation tactic was "carrot and stick." When Eloise tried to reason with him, he reminded her of her place with threats and violence. However, nothing enraged Victor more than homosexuality or any hint of it. Rumors even circulated among neighbors and acquaintances that, while serving as an army instructor, Victor caused a tragedy after discovering two gay soldiers. After the incident, he was forced into retirement, and the case was swept under the rug.
  • Theo grew up in a strict, toxic environment that left a lasting mark on his psyche. As a child, he was a crybaby, torn between wanting to protect himself and his mother from Victor and craving his father’s approval. But Victor was always disappointed in Theo, and no amount of success could change that, even as Theo grew older.
  • When Liam was born, Theo was about five years old. For years, Theo envied his younger brother because Victor adored Liam simply for existing. But as Liam grew older, he became more unruly and difficult. When Victor began disciplining Liam with the same "carrot and stick" approach, Theo couldn’t stand by and started defending his brother, taking the blame for Liam’s mistakes.
  • When Theo was 10, after another fight between his parents, Eloise disappeared. Her fate remains unknown. Theo is convinced she abandoned them and is deeply disappointed in her. After her disappearance, Victor became even more brutal and took his anger out on Liam, but Theo always protected his brother. This led to Liam becoming irresponsible and immature, rebelling to assert himself. He constantly shifts responsibility onto Theo, ignoring the potential dangers of his actions. Over time, their relationship deteriorated. Theo tried to "parent" Liam, becoming overprotective, while Liam rebelled against Theo’s military demeanor and perceived submission to their father.
  • During his teenage years, Theo discovered a passion for cooking. He became the sole cook for the family after Eloise’s disappearance. Cooking helped him cope with stress, and he dreamed of becoming a pastry chef. However, due to his father’s rigid views on masculinity, Theo abandoned this dream and enrolled in a military university. Around this time, Theo began struggling with aggression, which he managed through intense physical exercise.
