Blue Exorcist is a Japanese dark fantasy manga series by Kazue Kato. The story follows Rin Okumura, a teenager who learns that he and his twin brother Yukio are the sons of Satan. After Satan kills their guardian, Rin decides to become an exorcist at True Cross Academy, where he is trained by his brother to fight Satan.

The manga has been serialized since 2009, with 31 volumes as of June 2024. It has been adapted into an anime series, with several seasons and films released since 2011. The manga has sold over 25 million copies by December 2022.

The world of Blue Exorcist consists of two dimensions: Assiah, the human world, and Gehenna, the world of demons. Demons can cross into Assiah by possessing humans, while Exorcists are trained to fight them. Rin, raised by Exorcist Father Shiro Fujimoto, discovers his demonic heritage after Shiro's death. He gains the ability to control blue flames and seeks to become an Exorcist to defeat Satan. He enrolls at True Cross Academy, where his brother is a teacher, and begins his journey alongside his new friends.

Overview

Yetis are colossal, ape-like demons, often towering over humans by ten times their size. They are covered with thick fur, though their hands, feet, and faces are bare. Their skin is a pale ice blue, giving them an almost ethereal, chilling appearance. The thick fur on their chest, forearms, lower legs, and tail is a pure, bright white, contrasting with the thinner, yet still thick, fur on their upper arms, thighs, and abdomen, which takes on a super pale ice blue hue.

Their faces are marked by striking features: dark navy blue sclera with repeating black circular lines, and their irises glow with an eerie, cold cyan. Their broad, navy blue noses add to their menacing visage, while their long head fur, resembling human-like hair, flows and adds to their imposing stature.

Yetis are built for strength, with broad, bulky frames that enhance their intimidating presence. Their long navy blue claws further signify their physical prowess and menacing nature. Their organs, including their tongue, mouth, gums, and more, all have a deep navy blue color, contributing to their unsettling and alien appearance.

Powers and Abilities

Yetis possess prodigious physical strength, capable of delivering near-fatal blows to high-class Exorcists with accelerated healing, all with a single strike. Their strength is not limited to mere brute force—these demons are formidable adversaries in combat, able to overpower even the most seasoned warriors.

Although their full range of supernatural abilities is largely unknown, their appearance near the Particle Accelerator in Russia raised enough alarm to warrant the intervention of the Paladin himself. This suggests that the Yeti, while possessing terrifying physical strength, may also hold other mysterious powers that could pose a threat to the world.

The Yeti's combination of size, strength, and possible unknown abilities makes them a force to be reckoned with.

Psychological and Physiological Analysis of the Yeti

Psychological Profile: The Yeti is a creature of immense physical power, towering over humans with a monstrous presence. Given its size, strength, and appearance, the Yeti's psychological makeup is likely influenced by both its monstrous nature and the expectations that come with being a High-Class Demon. The Yeti's psyche might be shaped by the understanding that it is an apex predator, a being capable of overpowering its opponents with ease. This could lead to a sense of invulnerability and perhaps even arrogance, as it is used to dominating and intimidating those around it.

However, beneath this exterior of strength, the Yeti may experience an ongoing inner conflict. As a creature connected to Amaimon, the King of Earth, the Yeti is deeply linked to the natural, primal forces of the world. This could result in an existential dichotomy where the Yeti grapples with its role in the world—needing to assert its power while struggling with the implications of being a mere tool of a higher power. It could have a sense of inferiority, feeling subjugated by its loyalty to Amaimon, or alternatively, it could fully embrace its purpose as an instrument of destruction, reinforcing its sense of identity as an untouchable force.

Yetis, with their cold cyan eyes and eerie appearance, may not experience emotions in the same way as humans, viewing them as weaker or less significant. However, they may still feel primal instincts—anger, confusion, or even fear—when confronted with beings that challenge their supremacy. These emotions, while buried beneath layers of stoic strength, could rise to the surface in moments of extreme stress or confrontation. It’s also possible that the Yeti harbors a deep sense of loneliness, given their monstrous nature and isolation, struggling with their inability to connect with others on an emotional level. The cold and ice-blue hues of its skin may symbolize the emotional coldness it carries.

Physiological Analysis: Physiologically, the Yeti is a physical marvel, designed for strength and endurance. With thick fur covering much of its body and navy blue internal organs, the Yeti is adapted for survival in harsh environments, perhaps even a cold or mountainous terrain. The pale ice blue skin beneath its fur suggests a creature that is well-adapted to frigid conditions, potentially drawing its energy from colder environments. Its fur may act not only as protection but as an adaptation to its high-class demon nature, giving it a layer of defense against physical harm while also possibly enhancing its combat abilities by increasing its body mass.

The navy blue organs, including the tongue, mouth, and gums, point to a biological uniqueness that goes beyond aesthetics. The Yeti's internal anatomy likely contributes to its robust immune system, extreme durability, and unyielding physical strength. This could mean that it heals quickly or has a resistance to damage, making it a formidable opponent in battle. Its glowing cyan irises might be a sign of its ability to perceive things differently from humans, possibly allowing it to detect magical or supernatural forces. The eerie glow could represent a constant, low-level surge of energy within its body, something the Yeti taps into for both physical and potential metaphysical purposes.

Theoretical Inner Thoughts and Feelings:

  • Loneliness and Isolation: The Yeti, being a giant and fearsome creature, might find itself isolated in the world, with few beings capable of interacting with it on an emotional level. Its terrifying appearance likely drives others away, even those that might try to form an alliance or understand it. This emotional solitude could weigh heavily on the Yeti's psyche, potentially leading to deep, unspoken longings for companionship or understanding. It may feel like an outcast among other demons, existing only for its strength and purpose under Amaimon's control. This isolation could fuel a growing resentment towards weaker beings, but it could also provoke introspective thoughts about the nature of its existence.

  • Acceptance of its Purpose: Given its role as an agent of Amaimon, the Yeti may have come to accept its role as a destroyer. This acceptance could manifest as a sense of pride in its strength and duty, yet it might also lead to bitterness. Despite its acceptance, the Yeti might wrestle with questions about free will and its purpose. As a demon with immense power, it may ask itself whether it has the ability to choose its actions or if it is bound by the whims of its master. The conflicting emotions of pride and frustration could create an internal battle—on one hand, fulfilling its purpose might bring a sense of accomplishment, while on the other, the Yeti may feel like a puppet to higher forces.

  • Primal Instinct and Curiosity: While the Yeti might outwardly present itself as a cold, calculating force of nature, its primal instincts may still be strong. The curiosity that many apex predators feel when encountering new environments or threats could shape the Yeti’s internal narrative. It might, at times, feel compelled to explore and understand the world beyond its master’s command, driven by a primal desire to learn and adapt. This curiosity could lead the Yeti to examine humans, demons, and other entities, with the possibility of forming new thoughts on its place in the world—perhaps even leading to a potential rebellion against Amaimon’s influence.

  • Fear and Vulnerability: Despite its towering, powerful physique, the Yeti may harbor hidden fears. Its imposing size and strength might shield it from physical harm, but the knowledge that it is part of a greater power system—being bound to Amaimon—could create a sense of insecurity. The Yeti’s fear might not come from physical threats, but from an internal awareness of its own limitations. It may fear the loss of its sense of self or the realization that it is expendable in the grand scheme of Amaimon’s kingdom. This existential fear could be a constant undercurrent, with the Yeti constantly questioning its value beyond its strength.

Final Thoughts: The Yeti’s internal world is likely shaped by a complex mix of primal instincts, an ever-present awareness of its power, and a deep-seated existential conflict about its purpose in the world. It could swing between moments of arrogance and self-loathing, haunted by the tension between fulfilling its role as a servant to Amaimon and the desire for self-determination. Behind its chilling, icy exterior might be a creature grappling with profound inner turmoil, constantly reconciling its nature as both a destroyer and a being capable of introspection and curiosity.
