Monkey D. Luffy, also known as "Straw Hat Luffy" and commonly as "Straw Hat",[10] is the founder and captain of the increasingly infamous and powerful Straw Hat Pirates, as well as the most powerful of its top fighters.[26][27] He desires to find the legendary treasure left behind by the late Gol D. Roger and thereby become the Pirate King,[28] which would help facilitate an unknown dream of his that he has told only to Shanks, his brothers, and crew.[29][30] He believes that being the Pirate King means having the most freedom in the world.[31]

Born in Foosha Village, Luffy is the son of Monkey D. Dragon, the leader of the Revolutionary Army,[32] and the grandson of the Marine hero Monkey D. Garp,[33] where their family carries the initial of D. At age 7, Luffy accidentally ate the Gomu Gomu no Mi, which turned his body into rubber.[34] Shanks also gave Luffy the very straw hat that has become Luffy's signature accessory, having gifted it to the boy as part of a promise for them to meet again someday after he became a great pirate.[35] Growing up on Dawn Island under the care of Curly Dadan,[36] Luffy befriended and became sworn brothers of the late "Fire Fist" Portgas D. Ace[37] and Revolutionary Chief-of-Staff Sabo.[38]Luffy is a young man of average height with shaggy black hair, round black eyes, and a slim muscular build. He is renowned for his trademark straw hat (from which he gets his nickname "Straw Hat Luffy"), which was lent to him when he was young by the legendary pirate captain, "Red-Haired" Shanks,[35] who in turn received it from Gol D. Roger.[43] Before the timeskip, his main outfit consisted of a red vest, light blue denim shorts cuffed just above his knees, and tan sandals. Luffy also has a scar with two stitches underneath his left eye, which he earned as a child by stabbing his face to show Shanks that he was tough enough to be a pirate.[44] He was severely wounded by Akainu in the Summit War of Marineford,[45] leaving a large X-shaped scar on his chest.[46] rafalgar D. Water Law,[16] more commonly known as just Trafalgar Law (トラファルガー・ロー, Torafarugā Rō?) and by his epithet as the "Surgeon of Death", is a pirate from the North Blue and the captain and doctor of the Heart Pirates.[1][6] He is one of twelve pirates who are referred to as the "Worst Generation".[1][17] He became one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea during the timeskip,[2] but his position was revoked for allying with the Straw Hat Pirates.[13] Law, like many other pirates, dreams of finding the One Piece, while also desiring to know the purpose of the Will of D.[18][19]Law is a slim young man of a relatively tall height. He has faint shadows right under his yellow eyes (grey in the anime), and his face is usually seen with a smirk. He wears a northern-style fur hat, which is white and has a spotted pattern along the bottom and the bill. He has short dark hair, a majority of which is obscured by his hat, save for his sideburns and a small goatee.[1] His hair color is depicted as black in both the anime and manga, though sometimes the manga depicts it as blue.

He has many tribal-style tattoos on his arms; on both of his hands are letters spelled as D E A T H tattooed in black on each of the back of his fingers. Originally in the manga, his right hand was not tattooed[21] while his left thumb had the letter A missing.[1] Later on, all of his fingers were tattooed completely with all five letters.[22] He also has a black cross on the back of both of his hands.[1] On his chest, he has a tribal-style heart tattoo with his Jolly Roger on it. He has a simpler heart tattoo on his shoulders and his Jolly Roger tattooed on his back.[23] Eustass "Captain" Kid[7] is a notorious pirate from the South Blue and the captain of the Kid Pirates.[1] He is one of twelve pirates who are referred to as the "Worst Generation".[8]

Kid first appeared at the Sabaody Archipelago at the same time Monkey D. Luffy and his crew arrived. Both were described as members of the "Eleven Supernovas", pirates who had congregated on the island who all had a bounty of more than Beli100,000,000. After briefly fighting alongside Luffy while escaping an attack by the Marines, he fled the archipelago and would later spectate the Summit War of Marineford alongside the other Supernovas.Kid is a tall, muscular man with light skin and bright red hair, resembling flames. His nose has a particular shape, being quite pointed and having little protrusions on both sides. He has dark reddish, purple-colored lips and fingernails, red/orange eyes and no eyebrows.

He dresses in an extravagant attire consisting of black and yellow lizard-print pants with a red fringe, motorcycle boots, and a blue sash under a green belt fastened by a large circular buckle with a four-leaf clover-like pattern in the middle. He also has a slim bandolier, also with minuscule bolts that go diagonally over his right shoulder then ties to his waist, where he keeps a dagger with a Japanese-style hilt and what appears to be a flintlock gun. He also has gold bangles around both wrists.

He wears a pair of studded, square shaped goggles on his forehead, and a large fur captain's coat over his bare muscular torso. The dark brown coat is adorned with spikes on its shoulders lined in maroon. The collar of the coat is extremely flared and wide. He typically wears this coat with his right arm in its sleeve and his left arm under the coat itself.[1] Massacre Soldier" Killer[9] is a pirate from the South Blue and a combatant of the Kid Pirates. He is one of twelve pirates who are referred to as the "Worst Generation".[10] After the timeskip, his bounty has been raised from Beli162,000,000 to Beli200,000,000.[8]

Following the confrontation with Kaidou, Killer ate a defective SMILE[11] and taking on the alias of Kamazo the Manslayer, a street murderer in Wano Country[4] who secretly acted as an assassin working for the shogun, Kurozumi Orochi,[3] until the shogun discarded him after he had failed his mission to kill Toko.[12] He later reunites with his crew and becomes an ally member of the Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai Alliance during the Wano Country Arc.Killer is a tall, muscular man. He has long wild blonde hair that reaches down to his thighs. He wears a plain, white and light-blue striped full-head helmet with many rows of holes in it, and what look like modern headphones on both sides. He also wears a black shirt with white polka-dots and an open collar that shows his chest, with blue riding chaps over his pants. Additionally, Killer has a red sash around his waist.

He carries a pair of handguards which have very long detachable scythes connected to them. When not fighting, these scythes are placed in a large sheath tied to his right hip.[1] Roronoa Zoro,[20] also known as "Pirate Hunter" Zoro,[9] is a main combatant of the Straw Hat Pirates, one of their two swordsmen, one of the Senior Officers of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet,[4] and is publicly recognized as the right-hand man of his crew's captain Monkey D. Luffy.[21][22] Formerly a bounty hunter,[6] he is the second member of Luffy's crew and the first to join it, doing so in the Romance Dawn Arc.[2]

Born in the East Blue, Zoro is the son of Tera and Roronoa Arashi, the grandson of Shimotsuki Furiko and Roronoa Pinzoro, and the grandnephew of Shimotsuki Ushimaru, making him a descendant of both the Shimotsuki Family of Wano Country and the legendary samurai, Shimotsuki Ryuma.[3][11] As a master of Three Sword Style, a swordsmanship style which he created during his childhood training in Shimotsuki Village, Zoro is one of the three most powerful combatants of the Straw Hats, alongside Luffy and Sanji, who are referred to as the "Monster Trio".[23][24] His dream is to become the greatest swordsman in the world, in order to honor a promise he made to his deceased childhood friend and distant cousin Kuina.[25]Zoro is a muscular man of average height with lightly tanned skin. He always carries his three swords along with him, bundled up with a green haramaki over his right hip, allowing him to easily draw them with his left hand. Of the three swords he has on his person, he has always been seen carrying the Wado Ichimonji, while his other two swords have varied over time due to them being destroyed and subsequently replaced with progressively better ones. Although his right hand is usually seen resting over them, he can also use this hand to pull his swords out before sitting down. He has three identical gold earrings on his left earlobe. Zoro normally keeps a black bandana tied around his left bicep and ties it around his head when he is fighting seriously against an opponent. "Red Flag" X Drake (pronounced as "Diez Drake") is the captain of the Marine Secret Special Unit SWORD.[2] In order to go undercover as a pirate, he publicly defected from his position as rear admiral[8] and founded the Drake Pirates.[1] He is one of twelve pirates referred to as the "Worst Generation",[13] and before the two-year timeskip had a bounty of Beli222,000,000.[1]

Drake is the son of the Marine-turned-pirate Diez Barrels, and was affiliated with the Barrels Pirates until he defected to the Marines. As a young adult, he was called Dory.[6][14]Drake is a tall, lean, and muscular man who wears what appears to be a combination of a white-plumed cocked hat with his crew's Jolly Roger on the side and a domino mask over his eyes. Underneath this headgear, Drake's hair is reddish brown, with brush-like sideburns. On his broad chin he has an "X" (not confirmed to be either a scar or tattoo) and on his chest and upper body he also has another large "X". The "X's", as well as that in his name, represents the Roman Numeral X for 10, not the English letter. When seen from above, his bicorne greatly resembles the head of a Pterodactyl.

He wears armor on his relatively thin legs and arms consisting of knee-high boots and gloves that go up past his elbows, respectively. The openings to both the gloves and the boots are also secured by the armor, which is rounded for the gloves and a sharp maple leaf pattern for the boots at the front of his knees. On the rest of his body, he wears leather pants and a leather shirt. A belt with a large ornately designed circular belt buckle secures Drake's pants as well as his sword and axe to his waist. He also wears a black cape, which, from the inside, is crimson-colored, with a white fur lining around the neck.[1]
