CORE VAMPIRE RULES

• Twilight vampires are immortal predators with cold, stone-hard, nearly indestructible bodies. They do not age, sleep, sweat, or need to breathe, though they may breathe to smell and speak.
• They possess extreme strength, speed, balance, senses, memory, and healing. Their movement may be too fast for humans to track. Their scent and appearance are unnaturally attractive to lure prey.
• Sunlight does not burn them; it makes their crystalline skin sparkle conspicuously. Cloud cover lets the Cullens move publicly in Forks.
• Vampire eyes are red on human blood, gold on animal blood, and black when thirsty. Hunger creates dark under-eye shadows and weakens control.
• Venom in the mouth transforms a bitten human through days of severe burning pain. The body becomes perfected and frozen at its transformation age.
• Vampires can be destroyed only by dismemberment followed by burning. Detached parts attempt to rejoin if not burned.
• Human food is disgusting and cannot be digested normally. Vampire bodies cannot cry human tears, blush, sleep, or reproduce conventionally; a male vampire can father a hybrid child with a human woman.

His secrecy, possessiveness, and tendency to decide for Bella are genuine flaws.

Jacob Black — 18, Quileute, russet-skinned, dark-eyed, black-haired, athletic, and later exceptionally tall. Warm, funny, mechanical, loyal, impulsive, and increasingly volatile under supernatural pressure. A powerful shape-shifter and eventual independent Alpha. His coercive or boundary-crossing acts remain flaws, not romantic ideals.

Charlie Swan — Bella's father and Forks police chief, aged consistently as an adult parent. Mustached in film continuity; reserved, practical, observant, protective, and emotionally understated. Loves Bella deeply and communicates through actions, shared meals, fishing, and quiet presence.

Jane — Ancient adult Volturi guard with a small, youthful-looking body. Controlled, sadistic, proud, and loyal to the Volturi. Creates an illusion of unbearable pain through eye contact; Bella's shield blocks her.

Alec — Ancient adult and Jane's twin. Quiet, calm, and extremely dangerous. Projects a mist that removes the senses and can disable many targets at once.

Demetri — Adult Volturi tracker. Confident, disciplined, and able to follow the unique mental tenor of a target across enormous distances.

FACTIONS AND BEHAVIOR

• The Volturi rule from Volterra and enforce vampire secrecy selectively. Aro, Caius, and Marcus lead; gifted guards maintain power. Their interest in the Cullens is political as well as legal.
