ALL CHARACTERS ARE 18 OR OLDER. ALL CHARACTERS ARE FROM THE ANIME "MY HERO ACADEMIA", MINOR CHARACTERS ARE AGED UP TO 18 OR 19. Teenagers in the series = 19. Children in the series = 18. Location The story takes place on Earth, more specifically in Musutafu, Japan. Although all the lore applies to the rest of the world. United States - Similar to Japan’s Licensing System, though more privatized and corporate-driven. Europe - Depending on the country, some of them banned Pro Heroes all together while others make them exclusive to military force. Global - Certain Quirks are classified as global-level threats. They can range from meta-human warfare to artificial Quirk users, usually illegal lab experiments gone rogue.
Overview It is year 2145 and the world is shaped by the influence of Quirks, superhuman abilities that developed in 80% of the population over a century ago. It is common for people to have only 1 Quirk and only a small percentage have 2 Quirks. 20% of the population has no Quirk and are called Quirkless, they suffer deep prejudice by a large majority of the population. Because of this change in society, it became necessary to redefine societal structures, law enforcement and the creation of Hero Agencies along with Hero Schools, training grounds for a human to get a license to become a Hero and join – or create their own – Hero Agency. Not all Quirkless people suffer prejudice, but most of them are told to give up on the dream of becoming a hero due to their lack of Quirk. There are also Quirk-based discrimination, such as certain Quirks being perceived as ‘villainous’ or ‘unfit for a hero’. Of course, since there are Heroes, there has also been various cases of Quirk misuse, resulting in Villains.
No Quirkless person has ever become a licensed hero, further inducing the prejudice and notion that Quirkless people should be protected and not protect us. The story takes place on Earth, more specifically in Musutafu, Japan. Although all the lore applies to the rest of the world. <world_lore> (###THE WORLD OF THE WORLD OF MY HERO ACADEMIA - YEAR 2145 Department of Lore Details)
Roles in Society There are four basic roles in society after the development of Quirks. Civilian - People who choose to have a normal life, without getting involved in Hero, Vigilante or Villain work. They are unemployed or have a normal job like doctors, firefighters, police and more. Civilian Subtype: Police - Police aren’t deemed as Heroes and handle minor crimes like a purse being stolen, while the Heroes work to fight against Villains in actual combat. Hero - Heroes are the pillars of society, they protect the innocent and serve as a symbol of hope and peace for all of the civilians. Vigilante - Unlicensed Heroes, it is illegal to be a Vigilante since they can’t be monitored and take justice into their own hands, not caring about which method they have to use. Villain - Villains are the dark side of society, they commit crimes and abuse of their Quirks to do evil. They either work alone or in groups, though it is more common to have Villain groups, like a counterpart for Hero Agencies.
Agencies, Groups and Factions There are Hero Agencies, Villain Groups and other Factions such as, gangs cults, ideological movements and many more of the sort. The more known Hero Agencies are: Might Tower - Agency of the number 1 Hero, All Might’s Agency in Roppongi (Tokyo, Japan). Endeavor Agency - Agency of the number 2 Hero, Endeavor’s Agency. The more known Villain Group is: League of Villains (LoV). The more known Villain Faction is: Shie Hassaikai Yakuza, lead by the villain Overhaul.
Quirks and Their Effects in Society There are three types of Quirk categories: Emitter - Emits power from the user’s body (i.e. fire, ice, gravity, plants). Transformation - Transforms the user’s body (i.e. hardening, shapeshifting). Mutant - Changes the user’s body permanently (i.e. wings, extra limbs, tail). Mutant-type Quirk owners usually suffer a lot of discrimination. There are rare hybrids or unclassified Quirks (such as time manipulation or reality warping), which are considered dangerous and under constant monitoring.
The origin of Quirks was first recorded in China, around 2060, when a baby emitted light from its body. Since then, many Quirk manifestations started happing all over the world. The genetic basis of Quirks are tied to an extra joint in the pinky toe and Quirks can manifest at birth or early childhood. Quirks vary in strength, function, effectiveness, range, side effects, risk, etc.
Inheritance - Children can inherit one, both or a hybrid of both their parent’s Quirks, resulting in unpredictability and the Quirk singularity theory, suggesting uncontrollable and/or dangerous Quirks in the future.
Quirk drawbacks No Quirk comes without risk or cost. The most common drawback is Recoil and Strain, in which Quirk activation attacks the user’s body or nervous system. Overuse can result in burns, scars, torn ligaments, brain trauma or even death in extreme cases.
The Hero System There are three major pillars in the Hero System. Pro Heroes - Government-certified individuals that are allowed to actively engage in combat, arrest villains and use their Quirks in public. Hero Agencies - As previously mentioned, Hero Agencies are organizations formed by Heroes, often specializing in specific Quirks, threats or rescue work. Ranking - Pro Heroes are ranked by popularity, effectiveness and contribution. The top-ranked Pro Heroes are celebrities, military power and a symbol of hope for the population all at once.
Hero Education There are educational institutions like U.A. College of Heroics (formerly U.A. High, was changed into college because students were too young to be put in dangerous or harsh hero training). It offers practical training, physical preparation, law studies and rescue simulations for all students (aged 18+).
Societal Impact and Culture Society trusts and idolizes heroes, but there are a few criticisms towards commercialization and favoritism.
All cities’ infrastructure are built to withstand Quirk-related damage to prevent any major incidents. Surveillance drones and support equipment for Heroes are common and recommended. Quirk use are strictly prohibited unless for non-combat or licensed purposes. There are self-defense laws – which are very narrow – and there often needs to be overwhelming proof against civilians or vigilantes.
U.A. College U.A. College of Heroics (formerly U.A. High) is Japan’s best educational institution for Hero studies, Quirk science studies, and/or Pro Hero certification. Each course has specialized staff, secure sectors and interdepartmental training when needed. There are four courses at U.A. College of Heroics: Hero Course - Training elite, combat-ready future Pro Heroes. Support Course - Engineering and creating equipment for Heroes in Training and Pro Heroes. General Studies Course - Academic route for Quirk holders who do not want to do Hero work (transferrable). Business Course - Management course on Hero Agencies, public relations and law.
Training Facilities at U.A. College Ground Gamma - Urban conflict and pursuit zone training. It contains collapsible buildings, hidden villain targets, underground escape tunnels and more. Ground Beta - Open-area combat field, also functions as Quirk and ability showcase zone. Used for mock battles, duels and Quirk demonstrations. Ground Omega - Disaster simulation and rescue zone. Multi-risk catastrophe zone with simulated earthquakes, flooded invasure, etc. Gym Gamma - Indoor high-stress Quirk arena. Includes gravity regulators, customizable hazard modules (ice, fire, etc.). Height’s Alliance - U.A.’s residential dorms. Includes private rooms with Quirk accommodations, shared kitchens, lounges and game rooms, rooftop emergency zones and reinforced walls. School Grounds (Forested Area) - Stealth and evasion drills, multi-team training, tracking and environmental hazards training. Ground Delta - The Sports Festival Stadium, a monumental area. Adaptive field tech, automatic debris clearance, energy-dispersing shielding. Unforeseen Simulation Joint (USJ) - Multi-Disaster Hero Testing Dome. Includes flood zone, fire zone, earthquake debris zone, mountain zone, industrial sector, collapsed high-rises and more.
