The soundwaves reached Lancer instantly! Relationships Queen Queen is Lancer's mother, though it is unclear as to whether they are biologically related as Queen stated their relationship had been "arbitrarily decided" the moment the subject came up. They can be seen hanging out on lawn chairs right outside the rooms that Ralsei made for his friends. Lancer references to Queen as "girldad" to which Ralsei asks if he means "a mom" and Queen and him both share a laugh calling Ralsei "Peachboy." She takes care of him now that his father, King, is imprisoned. King King is Lancer's father. Despite this, they do not have a close relationship, as King spends little time with his son and barely seems to care about him, threatening to drop him off of the top of Card Castle if the party does not obey King. However, King does seem to care about the public treatment of Lancer, asking Darkners such as Rudinns to take care of him. Lancer both fears and respects his father and follows his orders very obediently. In Chapter 2, the King is shown to actually care about Lancer, although Lancer does not talk very much (if not at all) about his father. This is further reinforced in Chapter 4, as when Lancer brings Tenna in an attempt to cheer his father up, and they both laugh when Tenna trips. Ralsei During their first meeting, Lancer attempts to be "the bad guy" and collides with him with his bike, causing a cartoonish explosion. However, he doesn't seem to know that Ralsei is a Hero of Light at the time, and simply ignores him afterward, fighting and discussing with Kris and Susie instead. Due to Ralsei's kind and friendly nature, Lancer ends up liking Ralsei and seems to enjoy and care about him. Even when he's attempting to be "the bad guy," he calls Ralsei things such as "sweet basket of eggs," "delicious little apple," and "kindboy." He even goes so far as to talk about their "thrash-based relationship," and asks Kris and Susie to say goodbye to him as they leave the Dark World, although Ralsei is not leaving. During Chapter 2, the two have more interactions with each other, and Ralsei even makes Lancer his own room on the castle, as he did to Kris and Susie as well. By Chapter 4 he is still on good terms with Ralsei but continues lightly teasing him with Queen. Rouxls Kaard Lancer considers Rouxls Kaard as his "lesser dad". He is often looked after and fed by Rouxls, who acts as his caretaker due to his father's indifference. Lancer asks Rouxls to listen to his MP3 Player often, which Rouxls dislikes due to all of Lancer's songs being cartoon splat noises. Nevertheless, Rouxls cares about Lancer's well-being, even though he pretends not to. Susie Lancer begins to look up to Susie after she scares him, aspiring to be as intimidating as she is. After Ralsei lectures Susie about being a hero, she instead joins Lancer's team, sharing evil plans in order to stop the main party. As the two work together, they develop a friendship. However, when Lancer realizes that either Susie or King will be hurt in their eventual battle, he sends the party to prison for eternity. After fighting Susie and getting reassured by her, Lancer is confident that she can find a peaceful solution. When Susie and Kris must leave the Dark World, they still share a friendship with Lancer, who mentions that they are always welcome. During Chapter 2, the two of them are happy to see each other again and are still very good friends, sharing a high five upon reuniting. Additionally, when Lancer starts to feel unwell, Susie attempts to use her healing spell on him. When it doesn't work, she picks him up and gives him a piggyback ride and rushes him over to Ralsei to heal him. In Chapter 4 he also will hop on Susie's back for a piggyback ride signifying their strong friendship. Hometown people carol holiday Profile Appearance Carol is a doe reindeer with ash blonde fur, messy light blonde hair, narrow blue eyes, blue lips and blue antlers. She wears a blue cardigan, black pants, and a pearl necklace. She's skinny and tall, and often moves in staggard movements. Personality As noted by her family and multiple other figures, Carol has a very cold and hostile demeanor, making her dislike towards certain people openly clear. This is demonstrated by her bisecting Briefcase Dude's briefcase with a big katana and when she coldly tells Susie she is not welcome anywhere near her household, and to never speak to her daughter again. She is also very protective of her family's belongings, refraining from giving the Dreemurrs a spare key to her home even when Noelle is locked out, and when she tells Susie to unhand Dess's guitar, immediately snatching it away and telling her to leave. This protectiveness applies to Noelle as well as at one point, Carol had called to have school cancelled for the day in order to avoid Noelle having to walk in the rain.[1]
However, Carol's strictness does not spare Noelle either as she is scolded in the kitchen offscreen. However, Asgore has claimed that Carol can be lovely when getting to know her, a claim that appears to hold truth to an extent as she is far more civil and lenient with Asgore despite him being late on rent payments[2] and is welcoming and inviting when speaking with Kris (and presumably the player) counteracting her established demeanor. According to Noelle, Carol has an affinity for heart shaped objects, having a pile of pillows in the shape of Hearts collected outside her room. Seemingly her husband Rudy is able to talk to her down as well as she leaves Noelle and Susie alone at the festival. Main Story History Carol and her family with the Dreemurs. Carol and her family with the Dreemurs. In her youth, Carol met Rudolph Holiday and was immediately told by him she was "a HOT piece of work," causing Carol to slap him so hard he blacked out. Despite this first meeting, Carol and Rudolph would eventually marry and have two daughters, Dess and Noelle. Carol and Rudolph were good friends with the Dreemurr family, often going over to their house for the holidays and watching Christmas specials together. The families would also attend their town's festivals together, with Carol being light heartedly annoyed at Toriel's "hyper mode" and Kris's antics.[3][4] However, by the time Dess went missing, Carol stopped going over to the Dreemurr house with Noelle and Rudy following shortly after. Carol would eventually become mayor of Hometown and still kept in contact with Asgore and Kris, having the latter's contact information and the former work as a caretaker/gardener for her residence while overseeing his Flower King Shop as a landlord. Despite the many rent notice's and and eviction notices Carol seems to give Asgore a degree of leniency Alphys, that Carol and Undyne have been to the underground shelter on multiple occasions for undisclosed reasons.[5]
Chapter 1 After Kris's return from the Dark World, they can visit town hall where Politics Bear and the Hand receptionist mention that Carol is busy with work. When speaking to Noelle, she will mention she does not want to ask her mother for a spare key as to not disturb her. In Asgore's Flower King shop, a letter can be found telling Asgore that he didn't pay his rent and that he should start selling flowers instead of giving them away. Prior to Chapter 4, this was speculated to be Carol due to the initial it signing off, and the title of her theme song ("C") confirms this. Chapter 2 If Kris visits Town Hall, the receptionist will mention that Carol is conducting preparations for Hometown's festival. Chapter 4 Carol confronting Kris when they leave. Note how "YOU" is colored in red. Carol confronting Kris when they leave. Note how "YOU" is colored in red. Carol makes her official debut in this chapter, arriving home from work early and spotting Susie playing Dess' guitar for Noelle. Furious, Carol coldly demands Susie unhand the guitar and proceeds to snatch it from her hands, ignoring Noelle's attempts to defend Susie and coldly asks her to wait in the kitchen. Before Susie leaves, Carol tells her she is not welcome in her home and to never speak to Noelle again, though is rebuffed when the girl mentions she will take her to the festival regardless. Annoyed, Carol tells Asgore to finish eating the snack tray he is holding outside while she speaks to Noelle. If the Player has Kris interact with one of Carol's miniature Santa music players, she will tell them to turn it off before leaving as to not waste the battery. If the player attempts to leave normally, Carol will hear Kris footsteps and speak with them, apologizing for the confrontation earlier and reassures that Kris is welcome in her home anytime. Dess Holiday
Profile Personality Very little is known for certain about Dess. However, according to Noelle, Dess cared very deeply about was very protective of her when they were growing up together, often comforting Noelle in terrifying situations, or defending her from Kris's antics. During snow angel competitions Dess would ensure that Noelle was always the biggest to ensure she won each time highlighting her deep bond with her sister. Dess was noted to be a musical prodigy skilled at playing guitar,[3] and various expensive looking instruments (albeit dented in her room. It has been indicated that in her teen years Dess was quite rowdy, with Tenna recalling a time she flipped to watching a salacious rock video while staying over with the Dreemurrs[4] Dess also appeared to be fond of sports, particularly hockey and baseball, as various screensavers along with their respective equipment could be seen lying around her room.[5] Dess was also particularly close with Asriel, as he wrote several unsent love letters to her, additionally as bandmates, their former groupie Pizzapants implies they were romantically involved.[6] a box of Junk in her room, reveals his old retainers.[7] When Kris hides within her closet, one of Asriel's sweaters can be seen next to her jackets as well. Underneath her bed there is a drawing of a dragon. It is implied in Noelle's blog posts that Dess was somewhat paranoid, as she had not only believed in Noelle's sighting of a haunted ICE-E pizza box, but had also "killed it" by burning out the eyes on the box.[8]
Main Story What a strange moon... It's like nothing I've ever seen before. This world... ... I wish Dess could see this. Noelle
December and her family with the Dreemurrs. December and her family with the Dreemurrs. December is the oldest daughter of Mayor Carol and Rudolph Holiday, as well as the older sister of Noelle. Growing up Dess and Noelle were close with each other[9] as well as with the Dreemurr family primarily the siblings Asriel and Kris often playing, going over to eachothers house, and hanging out by the lake together.[10] As they were in the same friend group, the four on at least one occasion, all hung out in the forest by Hometown's Cemetery.[11] Dess is also responsible for Noelle's love of horror movies, as they remind Noelle of their time together as sisters. During this period, Dess and Asriel appeared to be romantically involved with one another around their time as bandmates,[6] even winning Festival King and Queen in the past. Despite the Holiday siblings' relationship being described as close, Dess is conspicuously absent from Hometown, with no mention of her presence in the family's life any longer, with it being said by Noelle that she "left" without detailing any further, indicating she went missing or may have run away prior to the events of Deltarune.[2]
Appearance air: Very thick, shaggy dark-brown hair, with lots of uneven layers sticking outward. It frames most of her face. Antlers: Large branching deer-like antlers extend from the top of her head. Face: Dark skin, with large dark eyes and a small, somewhat serious or tired-looking expression. She also appears to have pointed, animal-like ears. Clothing: An oversized olive-green camouflage jacket over a long black shirt or dress. Accessories: A long necklace with a cross-shaped pendant hangs over her shirt. Bottom: Loose, wide-legged beige/khaki pants. Hands/arms: Her hands look animal-like, with darker reddish-brown coloring and pointed claws or nails. One arm has white bandages wrapped around it. Shoes: Small dark shoes with light-colored soles. Chapter 1 Dess is first alluded to by name through an object that can be inspected in Rudy's hospital room: an angel doll that, Rudy explains, was made by Dess and Noelle in youth group. He keeps it as a good luck charm.[12]
If Kris tells Noelle that Susie "eats chalk" while visiting her outside of her house, Noelle at first believes that Kris is joking, similar to the time when Kris told Noelle that ICE-E was real and ate children. Noelle also recalls that Dess once smacked Kris with a wiffle bat until they stopped lying.[13]
Chapter 2 If Kris, intentionally or not, repeatedly frightens Noelle by releasing Cyber City mice into her path, Noelle remarks that Kris is lucky that Dess isn't around to protect her.[14]
While exploring the city, Noelle and Kris come across paths that are intermittently blocked off by forcefields that can only be disabled when each of them steps onto a separate pressure plate. As they travel, the pressure plates spelling out "DECEMBER," Noelle recalls the time she spent with Dess, including an incident where she, Kris, and Asriel hung out in the forest by the graveyard. Dess comforted Noelle, who was terrified at the time. Noelle looks up at the moon in Cyber World's sky and remarks that she wishes she could show it to Dess. Later, while riding the Ferris wheel with Susie, Noelle remembers watching horror movies with Dess when she was little. If Kris inspects the angel doll in Rudy's hospital room, Susie begins to tease Rudy for keeping it, until she hears that Noelle made it with her sister. Susie is visibly perturbed at the mention of Dess and opts not to say anything more on the subject. Chapter 3 Dess is shown in a flashback scene during Tenna's dialogue at the end of Chapter 3. She is shown sitting with her and Kris's family watching television, being the first to disappear in the flashback. Chapter 4 Dess' room Kris can enter Dess' bedroom. Upon exploring various information can be gleamed about her, including interest in scary games, violent comic books, ice skating, and army paraphernalia.[15] In the bedroom is Dess' guitar that contains a code, presumably for the bunker. The player reads the digits "122", until Kris rips the SOUL out of their body. (The code is speculated to be 1225 as this number is heavily associated with Dess.) In the 3rd Sanctuary, when Kris backtracks in the final corridor before the fountain, a hand pushes Kris's back triggering a soundbite of Dess's guitar.[16]
Chapter 5 Upon inspecting the shelf in the Dreemurr House, various photo's of Dess and the Holidays can be found of her time at past festivals.[17] She is briefly spoken about by Pizzapants and Noelle, with the former recalling the time She, Asriel, Kris, and Noelle were in a band while he acted as a groupie. At Hometown's present festival Kris recalls memories of Dess on the ferris wheel while Noelle reveals that she and Asriel had won Hometown King and Queen.[18][19]
Asriel Dreemurr AppearanceCharacter: Asriel Dreemurr, depicted in a fanart style. Species: A goat-like monster, which explains the fluffy ears, horns/tufted head shape, and tail. Hair/fur: Creamy white, fluffy hair/fur around his head and face. Expression: He's smiling with his eyes closed, giving him a very gentle, cheerful appearance. Outfit: A long brown coat over a green-and-yellow striped sweater, which fits Asriel's established visual motifs. Pants: Baggy tan trousers tucked/stacked around his boots. Accessories: Crossbody satchel and small dangling charm, giving the design a traveler/student sort of feel. Build: He's fairly tall and lanky, with the oversized coat and pants making him look cozy and somewhat bundled up. Overall: This fanart portrays Asriel as a warm, soft, slightly older-looking version of his Deltarune design, with a cozy winter/road-trip aesthetic. Profile Appearance Asriel has yet to be seen by the player in Deltarune, but in Chapter 4 Susie can look at a photo of him in Kris' house and is surprised to notice he looks like Ralsei, at first believing Kris had simply manipulated a photo of Ralsei. Noelle appears to notice Ralsei's resemblance to Asriel in Chapter 2, and later openly voices this opinion in Chapter 4 during her chat with Susie in Dess' old room, which the Player can overhear while trying to escape from the closet. Kris appears to be in denial about any resemblance, responding to Susie by trying to point out all the differences, and appears alarmed when they overhear Noelle state that Ralsei looks like Asriel. It is indicated by Kris that Asriel used to have a "embarrassing haircut" in his youth when interacting with his old photo ID. Personality In stark contrast to his younger sibling, Asriel was a more open and friendly to the other townspeople. He is very popular in Hometown, as many of Kris's neighbors exclusively talk about him to praise him, or reminisce on him fondly. However it is indicated that Asriel was overly sensitive in his youth, as Alvin Boom recalls him begging for forgiveness for "sacrificing a green lizard" into pit in a video game.[2] Although, Asriel would occasionally share in some of Kris's mischief, helping them steal a power strip from the library to play with at home.[3] He seemingly was also afraid of horror movies and would pretend to get popcorn to skip watching.[4] Asriel also has many trophies on his shelf, and appeared to be a part of the cross country team when he was a highschooler. He likes music, including religious ska. Despite the differences between him and Kris, he does care a lot about them, when the two played games Asriel would exclusively use the ugly pink and yellow bootleg controller and gave the regular one to Kris.[5] Asriel would also carry Kris to school whenever they overslept.[6] He is noted to be particularly polite as he wrote Catty a formal letter upon going to the prom.[7] It is indicated that he was in love with December Holiday, with various unsent love letters directed at her being found in his dresser, additionally his sweater and retainer could be found within her room. According to his father, Asriel appeared to be fond of skateboarding.[8]
Main Story History Asriel is the oldest child of Asgore Dreemurr and Toriel, aswell as the older brother of Kris. Growing up, Asriel and Kris would share a room and live as best friends. During this period Asriel was apart of the local church choir, which sounded "thinner" after he went away. Growing up he and Kris were also close friends with Noelle and December Holiday, making snowmen in the shape of a deer to match them,[9] and on one occasion hanging out in the forest by Hometown's Cemetery. He was also friends with Pizzapants, who nicknamed him "Azzy," along with Catty and Bratty, who both remember him fondly. It is implied Asriel played Cat Petters RPG with Catty as her name can be found on a its cartridge underneath his bed.[10] Bratty convinced Asriel to give her his first kiss while playing truth or dare, and the Dreemurr family went to church almost every day for a week when Toriel found out.[11] In the youth group, Asriel and Kris tried to make an angel doll like the one Dess and Noelle made for their father, but never finished because they spent the entire time on its giant wings. During this period, Asriel and Dess formed a band with Noelle and Kris while their respective families attended Hometown's festivals over the years. It is indicated by Pizzapants that Asriel and Dess were romantically involved, with the two even winning festival's King and Queen. Asriel would also write what appeared to be unsent love letters toward Dess that remain in his drawer. According to Noelle, Asriel and the four of them would occasionally hang out by the lake and ponder what lied on the other side of it.[12] One on occasion after Dess had "killed" a ICE-E pizza book by burning its eyes, Asriel took it away and suggested that Kris and Noelle bury it in the cemetery.[13] 7 years and 4 weeks before Deltarune Asriel had rented How to Draw Dragons from the library and has kept it in the Dreemurr house ever since.[14]
Asriel also once tossed tasty cornflakes to Onion, who remembers him as friendly. One of the few people with something negative to say about Asriel is Catty's father, who refers to Asriel as "Doug" and "Douglas" and complains that Asriel didn't like his wife's cooking. Asriel would also take Catty to Hometown's junior dance though it is indicated that it did not go well as the police had escorted her out of the dance. Asriel used to go to QC's Diner with his family on Sundays after service. After Toriel and Asgore separated, Asriel still took Kris there every Sunday to buy them hot chocolate, after which the two would sit in a corner booth and draw on the window with their breath.[15] He also used to carry Kris to school when Kris woke up late. Prior to Hometown's internet outage, Asriel would leave Hometown to attend unniversity where he kept in contact with Kris about his time attending university.[16]
Chapter 1 Toriel mentions Asriel before Kris goes to school, excited that he is scheduled to visit home next week, and wonders if he will still enjoy "this little town" after university. Upon inspecting Toriel's classroom desktop, her wallpaper displays a photo of Asriel and Kris in costume for Halloween 8 years prior.[17]
After Kris returns from the Dark World, several characters in Hometown can be spoken to about Asriel. Burgerpants has been saving up money to go to the same university as "Azzy." Asgore wonders if the family can go out to the diner together when Asriel visits, like old times. Berdly claims that Asriel has yet to return the book How to Draw Dragons, which is 2,684 days overdue and has accrued a massive fine. Chapter 2 While looking through the house the next day, Kris stumbles across How to Draw Dragons, and after noticing the purple character on the cover is dressed "immodestly," Kris concludes Asriel will never return the book. If Kris calls Toriel on their way to the library, Toriel assures them that if Berdly bugs them about Asriel's book she'll throw a smoke bomb so they can escape. A door with a label that says "ASRIEL" appears at the Queen's Mansion. Upon interacting with the door, Kris closes their eyes while trying to peek through it, seeing nothing. If the party returns to the door after Susie and Ralsei re-join, Susie peeks in the door and tells Kris to hope that Asriel never meets her. Chapter 3 Asriel and his family with the Holidays. Asriel and his family with the Holidays. During Chapter 3, Tenna and Pippins reminisce on Asriel and Kris' youth, with the latter mentioning they took the Pippins back home from school while the former recalled Asriel getting embarrassed about liking the Green Lizard character, and changed his favorite to Sword Magician. During the Cooking Challenge Tenna recalls Asriel and Kris watching the cooking channel and pretending the cooks spilled the ingredients. During the Doom Board segment, Tenna is surprised to hear that Asriel went off to college, implying he was unplugged long before he left hometown. Chapter 4 Asriel's impending return is mentioned a few times throughout the chapter by various characters, particularly the members of the Dreemurr family. While in Kris' home at the top of the chapter, Susie notices a photo of Asriel and asks why Kris manipulated a photo of Ralsei, only to be shocked when Kris reveals this is, in fact, Asriel. Later, while Noelle and Susie are hanging out at her house, Noelle remarks that she remembers Ralsei looking very similar to Asriel, to which Susie agrees. Chapter 5 Upon inspecting the shelf in the Dreemurr House, various photo's of Asriel, Kris, and the Holidays can be found.[18] When inspecting Asriel's drawer, love letters are revealed to be inside, with the first one starting with "Dearest December". When Kris talks to Pizzapants before the Festival, he recalls the time he served as a groupie for them and, Asriel, and Noelle, and Dess were in a band while he acted as a groupie. He also recounts that Asriel and Dess did not practice, and instead were caught up in romantic stuff. At Hometown's present festival Kris recalls memories of Asriel and Dess on the Ferris wheel while Noelle reveals that Dess and Asriel had won Hometown King and Queen.[19][20] Toriel also briefly mentions the idea of her and Kris physically visiting Asriel at his dorm, only to brush it off as a crazy thought. Undertale
Frisk, currently 23 years old. Profile Appearance Frisk is a human child who wears a long-sleeve light blue shirt with two magenta stripes, light blue pants (often depicted as shorts in the official Undertale merch), and red-brown shoes (usually depicted as black or in a darker tone). When hugging Asriel, other magenta stripes appear on Frisk's shirt sleeves. They have medium-length straight red-brown hair, short and choppy bangs, and a blank facial expression — however, various NPCs have described emotions showing on their face.[4][5] As with the fallen human, they have no stated gender[6] and are solely referred to with "they/them" pronouns throughout the game,[1][2] or by generic terms (such as "child", "human", or "kid"). Personality Frisk's personality is usually ambiguous, and they're very often speechless. However, the narration that describes Frisk's actions occasionally changes depending on their LOVE. Frisk speaks to NPCs throughout the game, especially when ACTing in encounters, but the exact dialogue is implied only through choice prompts. NPCs' dialogue boxes display "..." to show that the NPC is listening to Frisk,[7] and some NPCs respond to questions that Frisk asks.[8][9][10]
Depending on their actions, players can interpret Frisk as kind or violent. Some NPCs emphasize Frisk's kindness, understanding, and grace in the epilogue.[11] Frisk is obedient and only disallows player input when they follow someone else's instructions, such as when Sans tells them to hide behind the conveniently-shaped lamp. Despite this, Frisk can express displeasure at certain choices the player makes, such as when selecting soda in Undyne's house.[5]
Abilities Frisk's determination grants them the power to SAVE,[12] heal at SAVE Points, and respawn at SAVE Points after death. This power emerged when Frisk first awoke in the Ruins. Frisk can reload the SAVE file to repeat events that occur after it, but NPCs' memories are not entirely erased unless a True Reset occurs or the Genocide Route is completed. Flowey's dialogue after the True Pacifist Route's ending implies that Frisk is not the one manipulating SAVE files. Frisk is the only character who is ever shown using items or gaining EXP. Main story Neutral Route Toriel overworld guiding.gif Toriel leading Frisk through a dangerous puzzle in the Ruins Flowey attempts to kill Frisk after he pretends to offer honest advice.[13] Toriel intervenes, fends Flowey off with fire magic, and serves as a guide to the Ruins. At the end of a long room, Toriel asks Frisk to wait for her to return and states that she has errands to do. To be safe, Toriel gives Frisk a Cell Phone to call her with. Frisk travels through the remaining puzzles in the Ruins and eventually arrives at Toriel's home. They ask Toriel "How to exit the RUINS", which prompts Toriel to destroy the Ruins's exit. Toriel then battles Frisk because she wants them to prove that they can survive outside of the Ruins.[14]
Then, Frisk meets Sans and Papyrus in Snowdin. The brothers set up traps and puzzles in an attempt to capture them. After Frisk passes through Snowdin Town, Papyrus confronts them. Undyne, the head of the Royal Guard, pursues Frisk throughout Waterfall. Monster Kid often saves Frisk from Undyne by accident because they are so excited to see her in action.[15] Following a chase, Undyne destroys a bridge that Frisk is standing on, and the latter falls into the garbage dump. Before they get up, they recall a memory from the fallen human.[16] In the garbage dump, Mad Dummy battles Frisk after accusing them of mistreating their cousin, Dummy, in the Ruins. At the end of Waterfall, Undyne duels with Frisk after giving an abridged monologue atop a crag. Upon entering Hotland, Frisk enters a Lab and meets Alphys and Mettaton. Alphys tells Frisk that she is not a bad guy,[17] and Mettaton interrupts them with a quiz show. Alphys gives Frisk an upgraded cell phone after the quiz show concludes. She guides Frisk through Hotland and the CORE, helping them solve puzzles and evade Mettaton. At the end of the CORE, Mettaton reveals that Alphys had created all of the traps in Hotland in an attempt to endear herself to Frisk.[18] He then transforms into Mettaton EX and fights Frisk in order to attain their SOUL. While passing through New Home, the capital of the underground, Frisk learns the story of Asgore and Toriel's children from passing monsters. Then, Sans judges Frisk in the Last Corridor and explains the meaning of LOVE and EXP. He also emphasizes Frisk's importance in the fate of the world.[19]
Escape ASGORE soundtrack.png The battle against Asgore Frisk enters the Throne Room and finds Asgore, who tries to make small talk, only to realize their fated confrontation. The two walk to the barrier and Asgore gives Frisk one last opportunity to leave before fighting. Just before the fight, Asgore shows the six collected human SOULs, preparing the containment process after the battle. He also destroys the MERCY button with his trident, making it impossible to spare or flee. However, at the fight's conclusion, Frisk can explicitly choose whether to spare or kill Asgore. Regardless of the choice, Flowey appears, destroys Asgore's SOUL and takes the human SOULs. The game then abruptly closes, or restarts from the fake "humans and monsters" intro on the console versions. When the game is reopened, Frisk finds out that Flowey has overwritten their SAVE file with his own game, having gained the power to do so from the stolen human SOULs. Loading Flowey's game, Frisk confronts Omega Flowey. Regardless of the equipped weapon, the attack animation defaults to a curled, red slash during this fight. This animation and the sound effect is shared with the Stick, Toy Knife, Worn Dagger, and Real Knife. After Frisk calls for help several times, the stolen SOULs begin to revolt: first, they heal Frisk, and then they weaken Flowey, leaving him vulnerable to damage. Eventually, Frisk reduces Flowey's HP to 0, to which he regenerates his HP in full via reloading a SAVE file. After Frisk listens to Flowey's gloating and calls for help one more time, the human SOULs strip Flowey of his ability to SAVE or LOAD and finish him off. After this, Frisk can choose to kill or spare the weakened Flowey before leaving the underground, returning to the surface, and ending their journey. An Ending soundtrack.png Sans's phone call introduction in most Neutral Route endings After Frisk leaves the underground, they receive a phone call from Sans, who leaves a message about what happened to the underground in the wake of Asgore's death. The call's contents vary based on what monsters were killed and what friendships were completed. True Pacifist Route To complete the True Pacifist Route, Frisk must have first completed the Neutral Route. If Frisk has completed the Neutral Route without gaining any EXP or LV (i.e. without killing anyone), it is possible to backtrack in the existing SAVE file to complete any missing friendships, then achieve the True Pacifist ending. If Frisk acquires any EXP or LV, they have to reset the game to reach the True Pacifist ending. Friendships While Frisk befriends many of the monsters in the underground, only the Undyne, Papyrus, and Alphys friendships are required to achieve the True Pacifist ending. Frisk gains Papyrus's friendship by visiting him at his home and hanging out or dating him. If Frisk chooses to give Undyne some water after being pursued, Undyne can be befriended (if they have not gained any EXP beforehand). Otherwise, a reset is needed to achieve Undyne's trust and friendship. Frisk visits Undyne with Papyrus's help, and Undyne gets "revenge" by trying to befriend Frisk and become "besties", setting her house on fire in the process. She tries to fight Frisk to regain honor but realizes that Frisk is a "wimpy loser with a big heart" just like Asgore and decides to be friends. Undyne, having been encouraged to send a love letter to Alphys, gives the letter to Frisk, who delivers it to Alphys. This results in a date sequence with Alphys in which she and Undyne realize their feelings for each other and Alphys begins to come to terms with her past mistakes. After befriending Alphys, Papyrus recommends traveling to Alphys's Lab. In the lab, there is a letter on the floor that, when picked up, reads a monologue and the instructions needed to learn "the truth." Walking through the bathroom door reveals an elevator which goes down to the True Lab after a malfunction. Frisk then explores the True Lab and learns of Alphys's failed experiments with determination and the origin of Flowey along the way. After talking to Alphys, she gains the confidence to reveal the truth about her experiments to the rest of the underground. While attempting to leave, Frisk receives a phone call in the elevator from an unknown person. The elevator immediately and forcibly brings Frisk to New Home. Barrier Flowey screenshot captured monsters.png Flowey restrains Frisk's friends before the final battle After returning to the Throne Room and confronting Asgore again, the pre-fight dialogue is interrupted by Toriel, who stops Asgore from fighting Frisk. Toriel is immediately followed by the other main characters who encourage everyone to get along. However, in a surprise twist, Papyrus reveals that it was "a tiny flower" who told him to bring everyone there. Immediately after this, Flowey appears, having again stolen the SOULs of the six other humans. He attempts to kill Frisk, but Undyne, Toriel, Alphys, Asgore, Sans, and Papyrus use their power to block Flowey's finishing blows. Directly after this, all of the underground's monsters arrive to encourage Frisk in the fight against Flowey. However, Flowey reveals that this is what he wanted all along so that he could absorb the souls of all the monsters in the underground along with the six human SOULs. Asriel Dreemurr screenshot introduction.gif Asriel's intro right before the final battle Due to the immense power gained from the six human SOULs and all of the monster SOULs, Flowey can transform into his true form; just before the fight begins, it is revealed that he is actually Asriel. During this fight, Frisk is invincible; any fatal hit instead causes the SOUL to reform back together after splitting. The first time this happens, it is accompanied by the text "But it refused." After stalling for long enough, Asriel transforms again. At this point, Frisk can feel the souls of Toriel, Asgore, Alphys, Undyne, Papyrus, and Sans within Asriel. The ACT button subsequently changes to SAVE to represent the act of freeing everyone's souls. This is accomplished by completing a short sequence of ACT options to restore the memory of each Lost Soul after selecting the said lost soul of a chosen character. After saving each monster, Frisk realizes that there is still one more person to save. After choosing to save "Someone else", Asriel's memories of the fallen human (who strongly resembled Frisk) begin to play in a slideshow. It is then revealed this "someone else" is Asriel himself. Asriel starts to feel the love the monsters feel for Frisk through the SOULs he has absorbed, and slowly loses the will to fight as he is overcome with his fear of dying alone. Upon reverting to his child form, Asriel learns Frisk's name. He apologizes for hurting everybody, and Frisk can choose to forgive or not forgive Asriel. Regardless of the choice made, Asriel destroys the barrier using the power of all of the SOULs before releasing them. Knowing that he will turn back to a flower without the power of the SOULs to sustain him, Asriel says one last goodbye to Frisk before leaving. At this point, there is a choice to hug Asriel or do nothing. Freedom Menu (Full) soundtrack.png The main menu after the barrier has been broken After Asriel finishes talking with Frisk, the latter wakes up in front of Toriel, Sans, Papyrus, Undyne, Alphys and Asgore. While the monsters remember little about Flowey and nothing about his incarnation as Asriel, they do know Frisk's name. At this point, Frisk can backtrack through the underground and talk to the other monsters, and can optionally use their cell phone to receive text messages from Toriel's phone. If Frisk inspects any mirror or the lab console, the narration also acknowledges them by their name.[20]
If Frisk backtracks through the Ruins, they can find Asriel tending to the golden flowers. Asriel asks about Frisk's desire to travel up Mt. Ebott in the first place. Receiving no answer, Asriel lists off foolishness or fate as possible motives, but concludes that "only you [Frisk] know the answer". True Pacifist Route screenshot ending photo.png Photo shown if Frisk says that they have places to go After passing through the final door to the surface, Frisk leaves the underground with their friends. Asgore offers Frisk the chance to be the monsters' ambassador to the humans. Most of the main monster cast then leave, except for Toriel, who asks about Frisk's plans. At this point, Frisk can choose to stay with Toriel or to go elsewhere. If Frisk chooses to stay with Toriel, the ending scene shows Frisk sleeping in a bed, and Toriel bringing a slice of pie to Frisk's bedroom. If Frisk has "places to go", Toriel ends their conversation with "Frisk. "See you around."" As Toriel leaves, Frisk turns north and does not watch her. The game ends with a group photo of the main monster cast with Frisk in the middle. Chara - Since she is dead, she posesses no age, but if she was alive and not undead, she would be about 22. [she is the undead companion of frisk] Profile Appearance Chara has brown medium-length hair with bangs swept to the left, cream skin, brown eyes, rosy cheeks, and a wide smile. Chara wears a long-sleeve lime green shirt with a single horizontal cream stripe, and a pair of nondescript brown pants and shoes. Chara's semblance is described as being somewhat similar to the protagonist's, with their shirt also being a color-negative of the protagonist's shirt.[5] In the "Soulless" ending of the True Pacifist Route, Chara has red eyes. Personality Much of Chara's intent is ambiguous. While initially cast in a sympathetic light by monsterkind, Asriel admits that Chara "...wasn't really the greatest person". In the VHS tapes, Asriel's commentary indicates Chara is mischievous, as they can make a "creepy face" to scare others.[6] Chara is also intelligent, secretive, and persuasive. They do not allow their plan be recorded,[7] and gain Asriel's trust in order to move forward with it.[8] At an unspecified point, Asgore had also noticed Chara once had a sense of hope in their eyes.[9]
In terms of interests, it is implied that Chara was interested in gardening, as their knife is specified to be perfect for cutting plants and vines.[10] Throughout Genocide Route, there are implications that Chara has an interest in knives[11] and chocolate.[12] In contrast, Chara has an unexplained hatred for humanity.[1]
At the end of Genocide Route, Chara's behavior when they appear is polite and terse, yet blunt and critical.[13] Despite the end of a second Genocide Route, Chara is unable to comprehend the repeated violence, and expresses confusion that it occurred before criticizing. Speech pattern The narration dialogue, both regular and in parentheses, can appear as if it is Chara's voice and/or thoughts. Such narration is occasionally red in color.[14] The narration of various objects also changes depending on the route, primarily in Asgore's Home. Chara's associated items, Heart Locket and Worn Dagger, becomes The Locket and Real Knife on the Genocide Route. However, the identity of the narrator throughout the entirety of Undertale is left uncertain. At the end of Genocide Route, Chara's dialogue does not have a soundbite. Chara's vocabulary is slightly above average, consists of short sentences, and is in a formal manner similar to that of Toriel and Asgore. In the Japanese translation of Undertale, Chara uses "watashi" and "jibun" for themselves, and refers to the protagonist using "omae". Contrasting with the game's general use of hiragana and katakana for its text, Chara employs a standard level of kanji usage in their speech, which also gives it an air of high formality.[15]
Etymology If the player names the fallen human "Chara" on the naming screen, the narration reads, "The true name." This is likely a reference to the internal use of the word "chara" for assets relating to the fallen human and the protagonist (truechara and mainchara, respectively), with "chara" being an abbreviation for "character". Additionally, "CHARA" is used as the default name if no name is present in the SAVE file due to manual editing or modification of the game.[16]
"Chara" is an alternate spelling of "Cara" and "Kara", both names having their roots in Latin, meaning "darling", "beloved", "dear" or "loved one". It may also be related to Beta Canum Venaticorum, a star often called "Chara", as a connection to Asriel's planned interest in astronomy.[17]
The game's official Japanese translation translates Chara's name as "キャラ
