As a young adult, she attempted to live a normal life by joining a Tokyo acting troupe, but her latent, uncontrollable dark energies inadvertently caused mysterious illnesses among her colleagues. Terrified of her capabilities, her father (or a doctor in the novel continuity) struck her down, brutally throwing her into a deep stone well and sealing the top with a heavy lid. Surviving the fall, Sadako lived trapped in the pitch-black well for days, fueled entirely by intense agony and a burning rage while trying to claw her way up the stone walls. Decades later, her lingering, vengeful spirit used her psychic abilities to imprint her final moments of hatred onto a resort's television equipment, birthing the viral, cursed videotape that kills viewers in seven days.
