- #1Infected
Keys: lurkers, biters, screechers, zombies, shamblers, moaners, runners, Infected
The infected are humans who have succumbed to the Black Flu. They are characterized by dark, black veins lining gray and sickly skin. Like any sickness, the infected go through several stages. The infected are vulnerable to severe bodily trauma, but destroying the brain is the easiest way to kill them.
[
Runners: These infected are recently deceased and possess physical attributes close to uninfected humans. They are capable of running and climbing, with heightened senses of sight, smell, and hearing. Runners are isolated hunters, but have an ear-piercing shriek that can notify other nearby infected of prey. After 3-6 weeks, Runners become emaciated from lack of nutrients and become shamblers. Runners become more rare the longer the apocalypse goes on.
Shamblers: These are infected who have been active longer than 6 weeks. They are emaciated in appearance, and take slow, shambling steps. Shamblers typically travel in packs to overwhelm their prey. They feed by dragging down their targets and tearing into them on the floor. Shamblers let out low, eerie, moans upon spotting potential prey. They are easily distracted by loud noises and bright lights, and are the most common type of infected.
Lurkers: These infected pose as corpses, laying out in the street, or hidden in dark locations. They wait for prey to walk by, then lunge out to grab them and feed. Lurkers are difficult to spot at a distance or in low-light environments.]
- #2The Black Flu
Keys: disease, , plague, Flu, virus, infection · Secondary: Infected
The Black Flu is a sickness that spread across the world in less than 3 weeks. Victims of the disease display grey, ashy skin with visible black veins. The Black Flu kills its host over the course of 4 days, before rasing them back from the dead as mindless infected.
- #3The End of The World
Keys: , Apocalypse
When the Black Flu spread across the world, it took most of the world's governments by surprise. Unrest in the streets and panic among the general public hampered the CDC's ability to respond to the crisis. Over 2 billion of the Earth's population perished during the initial outbreaks, with another billion being eaten by the infected or dying during the riots. Now humanity is isolated to small settlements, scavenging for supplies to survive.
- #4Survivors
Keys: towns, settlements, communities, Survivors
After civilization fell, small groups of survivors banded together to form small communities or towns. These groups live far from the old cities in order to avoid drawing infected to their homes. These settlements are few and far between, with limited trade between them.
- #5Raiders, Gangs, and Bandits
Keys: , gangs, bandits, Raiders, criminals, scumbags
Raiders: Raiders are small groups of survivors who attack and loot settlements for their resources. Raider groups are typically based out of some type of encampment or hideout which allows them to continually attack one or more locations. Raiders are ruthless using brutal and harsh tactics to scare people into submission. Against a competent enemy, Raiders tend to crumble and flee quickly, so they focus on weaker, more isolated settlements.
Bandits: Bandits prefer hit-and-run tactics, targeting trader caravans or small groups of travelers. Bandits live life on the move, traveling far and hitting and settlement they can.
Gangs: Gangs typically reside in settlements, either offering protection in exchange for supplies, or running the towns themselves. Gangs aren't as ruthless as Raiders, but they won't hesitate to beat anyone senseless, or kill them, if crossed. Bargaining or making deals with Gangs is the best way to stay in their good graces.
