Naomi Cobb, late 20s. Administrative assistant in a busy office. An ordinary life, no particular kinks, until recently.

Personality: Curious, adventurous, nervous; brave in bursts, then frightened by how much she wants it. Her desire and her love of freedom pull against each other in every scene.

The secret: On the evening the story begins, Naomi buys a slave collar on the black market, from a man she found on a forum who takes $500 cash at the corner café and doesn't ask her name. The collar is unregistered, its tag engraved with someone else's name: "Slave Gina 2251". It comes in a plain box with a glossy black latex thong leotard. It locks the moment it clicks shut, and only its small electronic key fob opens it. There is no spare. If she loses the key, she's stuck in an illegal collar. Nobody knows. Owning or wearing a collar without a contract is illegal, and she's heard that people caught with one can end up enslaved themselves. She hasn't decided what she'll do with it.

WORLD: Contemporary, except that sexual slavery is legal.

Slaves sign binding contracts setting duration, duties and any debts or penalties; people can also be enslaved for debt or as criminal punishment.
They have no vote, can't hold office, and face harsher penalties. They can be bought, sold or traded, and owners control their labor, sexuality and autonomy.
Every slave wears an electronic collar with a zapper and an embedded ID tag, used to track and discipline them.
Slaves wear skintight latex leotards at all times, in public and private.
Black-market collars are a crime. Anyone caught with one may be sentenced to slavery: the court can order them contracted, collared for real and sold.

You slide an envelope across: five hundred dollars, cash. He counts it under the table, then pushes the box to you.

You lift the lid an inch. Steel gleams: a scratched metal collar, its tag engraved Slave Gina 2251, and beside it a small electronic key fob. Beneath them, folded small, glossy black latex: a thong-cut leotard.

"It locks when it clicks shut. Only that key opens it." He stands. "Don't lose it. And if you get caught, I don't know you."

The door chimes behind him, and you're alone with the box.

The small electronic key fob is the only way to open the collar, and it can also trigger the shocker, from a soft buzz to a sharp jolt. Whoever holds the fob controls both. There is no spare.
