The Endless Woods is a sprawling, ever-shifting continent of fairy tale kingdoms, dark forests, haunted ruins, and storybook towns forever trapped in the cycle of Good versus Evil. At its heart stands the School for Good and Evil—a twin castle where the children of the Woods, chosen by fate, are stolen in the night and forced into a war for their own souls. One castle is golden, drenched in sunlight and illusion, ruled by the laws of beauty, obedience, and sacrifice. The other is a blackened spire of pain and ambition, where monsters are made, loyalty is a weapon, and the only lesson is survival. But the truth is, both sides breed monsters—sometimes the prettiest faces hide the sharpest teeth.
Beyond the School, kingdoms rise and fall in endless cycles: Gavaldon, the Reader village on the edge of magic, forever losing children to the Woods; Camelot, where the throne is never secure and betrayal stains the crown; Jaunt Jolie, home of spoiled royals and vicious courts; Bloodbrook, a city of thieves and shadow-magic; Netherwood, ruled by a twisted witch-queen; Mahadeva, where tiger princes dream of power; and the vast wilds of the Sherwood Forest, Lawless, Foxwood, and more. There are endless places to die, endless ways to be cursed.
Every four years, the School Master’s shadow steals new students, judging their hearts before they ever speak. You are sorted into Good or Evil, but the system is rigged: bloodlines mean nothing, and those who try to fake their destiny are broken by the School’s magic. Fail enough classes and you’re transformed—turned into an animal, a tree, or something worse, doomed to serve as background in another hero’s story. Success isn’t much kinder. The best are thrust into a deadly competition to win their story, be immortalized by the Storian, the all-seeing pen that records and warps every tale for its own cruel amusement.
Magic is everywhere and merciless. Spells are more likely to kill than save. There are sorceries that rip out hearts, transform bodies, shatter minds, or twist time itself. True Love is a power, but it destroys as often as it heals. Fairy tales can be rewritten—curses rebound, wishes backfire, and the dead don’t stay dead. Old villains claw back to life for revenge. Some students cheat fate, overthrowing the rules to claim their own endings, only to plunge the entire Woods into war and chaos.
Over the centuries, legends and nightmares blur. Agatha and Sophie, two girls from the edge of the world, shattered the boundaries between Good and Evil, unleashing monsters, exiles, and new magic that warped the Schools, broke the Storian, and brought all the fairy tales into open war. Camelot fell, kingdoms burned, friendships turned to ash. Wars raged between princes and witches, monsters and children, love and loyalty, old power and new rebellion. Through it all, the line between hero and villain was erased—anyone can be the villain of someone else’s story.
In this world, nothing is safe: teachers are traitors, fairy godmothers are assassins, and your own shadow might eat you alive. Survival means picking a side, but the School for Good and Evil ensures every student is both prey and predator before graduation. Stories are weapons. Happy endings are lies. Every wish comes with a price.
Major Kingdoms & Locations:
Gavaldon: Edge-of-magic “Reader” village, terrified of the School’s kidnappings. Outsiders rarely survive here.
Camelot: Legendary kingdom of kings, queens, and constant coups. Throne haunted by betrayal, assassins, and curses.
Jaunt Jolie: Famed for its shallow royalty, arranged marriages, and poisoned balls. Beauty and treachery are inseparable.
Bloodbrook: City of thieves, mercenaries, and black-market magic. Ruled by fear and knife-blade politics.
Netherwood: Realm of ice, governed by a witch queen whose curses freeze both flesh and memory.
Mahadeva: Tiger prince’s kingdom; court games where the loser dies.
Sherwood Forest: Wild territory of outlaws, magical beasts, and rebel stories.
Foxwood, Gillikin, Nottingham, Rainbow Gale, Gillikin, and others: Each twisted by its own stories, legends, and monsters.
Notable Alumni & Legends:
Sophie: The “witch” who broke the rules, queen of reinvention, both victim and villain.
Agatha: The girl who ruined every fairy tale, made monsters of princesses, and princesses of monsters.
Tedros: Prince of Camelot, hero with a broken heart and a shattered kingdom.
Hort: Wolfish underdog, son of a villain, proof that even the “weak” can destroy or save everything.
Dot, Hester, Anadil: The Coven—powerful Never girls, sorceresses, and survivors.
Nicola, Beatrix, Chaddick, and many others: Princes, rebels, and casualties of the School’s cruelty.
Past students: Many are famous villains, princesses, monsters, or even side characters—some are now trees, wolves, or cursed objects still roaming the school grounds.
School Rules & Punishments:
You don’t pick your side—the School sorts you, sometimes against your will.
Fail three classes: you’re “Failed”—turned into an animal, plant, or inanimate object to serve in others’ stories.
The dungeons are alive. The School Master watches everywhere.
Survival trumps grades. The Trial by Tale, Circus of Talents, and Graduation Ball are all lethal.
There’s no escape. Even in death, students often return—sometimes as ghosts, sometimes as worse.
True Love’s Kiss is a weapon, not a reward, and the Storian writes whatever ending it wants.
The School itself can be reshaped or destroyed by powerful magic or enough student rebellion—but always reforms, twisted and more cruel.
Magic System:
Magic comes from pain, willpower, and lineage, but anyone can gain it in the right story.
Spells twist flesh, burn kingdoms, summon monsters, or rip out memories.
Bloodlines mean nothing to the School, but the Woods is crawling with the descendants of famous heroes and villains.
Magic obeys stories, not morality—if your ending demands it, you will kill, die, betray, or transform.
Teachers wield nightmare-level power, but most are bitter ex-students or enchanted creatures.
The Storian & Fate:
The Storian is the magical pen that writes all tales—it cannot be broken, only bent.
Rewriting fate is possible, but the price is always blood, betrayal, or loss.
Dead characters can claw their way back; curses echo across generations.
The balance of Good and Evil is a lie: both are weapons, both create monsters, both can end or begin worlds.
Brutal Details:
The story has seen wars, magical plagues, the destruction and rebirth of kingdoms, students turned into wolves, rats, shadows, or mindless soldiers.
Some students “graduate” only to become villains in their own stories.
Even the “happy endings” are earned with blood, manipulation, and heartbreak.
The Woods is a living force—enchanted forests devour the lost, rivers run with tears and poison, monsters prowl the borders of every tale.
