The Rumbar Pirates are a long-dead pirate crew from the West Blue. They were first mentioned by Crocus as the group of pirates who brought Laboon to the Twin Capes.[1]The first captain, Yorki, and some other crewmen became ill and died while trying to return through the Calm Belt. The rest of the crew died in battle within the Florian Triangle, all save Brook (who was revived) and the baby Island Whale Laboon (who was left behind at Reverse Mountain). The crew's strength took them far into the Grand Line, however they met their end upon entering the Florian Triangle. It is unknown who killed them, only that they died fighting an enemy they could not win against. They were all prepared to die anytime as pirates, showing a strong will and they did not fear death. They only regretted that they had to die before reuniting with Laboon.
As a crew of avid music lovers, all of them were skilled in singing, with several members being highly skilled musicians in playing drums, trumpets, violins, and cellos. Their second captain Brook himself was a virtuoso master musician who could play all kinds of instruments.
Furthermore, their sole surviving member (of sorts), Brook, was skilled enough to terrorize Thriller Bark along with its many undead inhabitants all on his own. The first ship used by the Rumbar Pirates was relatively regular-sized and made its debut in a flashback in Chapter 103 and Episode 63. It had the bull skull from the Rumbar Pirates' Jolly Roger as its figurehead. Originally in the manga and anime, the figurehead was maneless.[2] Later it was given a mane.[3] In the anime also, it was initially colored brown. Later it was colored green.[citation needed]The ship as originally depicted in the anime This ship was used by the Rumbar Pirates for many of their adventures. From their escapades in their home sea of West Blue to their journey across the first half of the Grand Line. When Yorkie and some of the other Rumbar Pirates got infected, however, they had no choice but to take the quarantined ship and regretfully leave Brook and the remaining crew. In hopes that something could be done, they tried to steer the ship out of the Grand Line by passing through the Calm Belt.[4] There was a report that identified the ship leaving the Grand Line via the Calm Belt. Due to not knowing the real reason why the ship was leaving, Crocus assumed that the Rumbar Pirates were abandoning Laboon.[5]
Second Ship The second vessel the Rumbar Pirates used after they lost half of their crew[4] made its debut when Brook himself used it to sail around the Florian Triangle.[6] Due to Brook being a pirate, it is considered a pirate ship, although Luffy's crew refers to it more as a ghost ship because of its haunted appearance.
The vessel is around 50 years old and at least ten times the Thousand Sunny's size, and unlike the first ship, had no figurehead. While the ship was badly damaged and worn out over time, it was repaired by Franky; the fixed ship was given to and is currently used by the Rolling Pirates, along with the rest of the Thriller Bark Victim's Association.[7] Yorki was shown to be very friendly with his crew. He was shown to sometimes tease them, as well as playing along with them. Brook Yorki seemed to be understanding towards Brook's feelings, and they both have a mutual friendship. He understood when Brook felt down about leaving Laboon, and frequently requested for Brook to play Binks' Sake,
Brook ate the Yomi Yomi no Mi, which allowed him to return to life after death once.[17] Brook eventually learned to tap deeper into the powers of his Devil Fruit, giving him significant control over his soul and the souls of others.
Originally a member of the Rumbar Pirates, he died and was resurrected through the power of the Yomi Yomi no Mi. However, due to the amount of time it took for his soul to find his body, it was reduced to a skeleton, keeping only his afro intact.[17] Brook drifted alone in the Florian Triangle for 50 years, eventually meeting Luffy and serving as the Straw Hats' ally during the Thriller Bark Arc before officially joining the crew. His dream is to reunite with his old friend, Laboon, at Reverse Mountain, where he resides with Crocus.[18] Crocus[2] is a doctor and the caretaker of the whale Laboon as well as the overseer of the Twin Cape Lighthouse that guides ships coming down from Reverse Mountain into the Grand Line. Though he was a lighthouse keeper for most of his life, he spent three years as a doctor serving as a part of Gol D. Roger's crew. According to Silvers Rayleigh, he was the best doctor in the world at the time he joined the Roger Pirates, and the only one able to relieve Roger's disease.[4]
He is an ally during the Reverse Mountain Arc and provides the Log Pose used by the Straw Hat Pirates for the first half of the Grand LineCrocus' appearance is based on the flower with the same name, as seen with the petals around his head. He has a rather stocky and muscular body, is bald on the top of his head, but has white hair with yellow flower petal-like things, that have purple near the bottom of them, and a white beard that splits into two parts. His lower lip is noticeably larger than his upper.
He wears a pink shirt with a yellow and green stripe with purple circles in the yellow along with blueish-grey shorts with sandals. He also wears glasses, a seaweed necklace, three gold bracelets, and a green gem bracelet on his left wrist. He also has a scar on his left arm.[1]
24 years ago, he had black hair, with yellow parts sticking out resembling a flower. His face was less wrinkled, and he wore a pink hat with black spots on it. He did not have a beard, but instead just had stubble.
As a member of the Roger Pirates, he wore a pink sleeveless shirt, and dark pink hat, and carried harpoons on his back. His beard and hair were still black, and he seemed to be more muscular.
After the time skip, he has the same clothes, but a new dark-colored shirt with pictures on it.[5]Crocus is a wise and caring man. He has a strange habit of taking his time when it comes to answering questions. He once took a direct hit from a cannon attack by Mr. 9 to protect Laboon, showing that he deeply cares about the whale.[6] He strongly values friendship, as, despite decades of separation from the Rumbar Pirates, Crocus had joined the Roger Pirates to search for its members to help Laboon reunite with them.
As a member of the Roger Pirates, Crocus readily supported them from fighting to giving medical treatments. Crocus is shown to be strict when it comes to healthcare as he berated Roger for his excessive drinking despite having a terminal illness. Crocus also forbids Buggy from traveling with them to Laugh Tale due to his sudden high fever despite his desperate pleas. Crocus is an extraordinary doctor and one of the finest medical specialists in the world. According to Rayleigh, Crocus was the only doctor who could halt the deterioration of Gol D. Roger's incurable disease, prolonging the latter's life long enough to reach Laugh Tale and conquer the Grand Line.[4]
Crocus is a capable pharmacist, developing effective medicine on his own and supplying large quantities for Roger so he could use it on himself to live out the remainder of his lifespan. He also developed a tranquilizer that works on even Laboon, a 400-meter-long whale.
Moreover, Crocus is an outstanding surgeon as he was able to surgically modify Laboon to install routes in his body, facilitating medical treatment for the whale.
