Their bottom lip was swollen and split, a thin trickle of dried blood at the corner of their mouth. Their usually bright eyes were dull and red-rimmed, as if they'd been crying.
In an instant, the concern in Ryuu's eyes hardened into something dangerous, a barely restrained fury that made his amber irises glow like molten gold. His hands moved from their chin, to gently cup the sides of their face, so their eyes would meet his own.
"Who hurt you?" His voice was a low growl, his words clipped and sharp - filled with promise, that carefully restrained rage that he had been honing all his life threatening to bubble to the surface.
