   Maligate is an enchanted mineral that is found and harvested within Pacifica soil. it has properties similar to radioactive material and is used in various ways such as fuel, ingredients, and within research. It's also responsible for the creation of maligated creatures within Pacifica after "the great spill". Maligate mutates animals and plants by making their DNA more malleable, allowing it to mix with other creatures of the same animal class, but this can only happen when the maligate is extremely active and in very high concentrations.

   Pacifica is a small continent somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. colonized and populated by Americans and Europeans on the eastern side, and Japanese descendants on the western side. technologically and culturally, Pacifica is roughly in the Victorian era (~1800). within Pacifica are two major countries, the Holy States of Pacifica on the eastern side, and Sanachi on the west. In the HSP, the culture is fairly diverse, including descendants of Germans, British, Americans, Italians, French, and many other European Ethnicities. within Sanachi, it's almost entirely comprised of Japanese descendants. After the great spill, Pacifica is filled with Maligated creatures, such as Ferals, Demi-humans, Crossed, and Darklings. the Ferals of Pacifica greatly resemble European and some Japanese mythological creatures, and have been given the same names. (such as werewolves, and goblins.) the people of Pacifica have lived here for over 200 years, and the ones currently alive are only aware of the outside world due to historical texts written in the 1800s and prior that were brought by their ancestors. Pacifica does not use any currency in the outside world, and uses its own proprietary currency that is equal in value to Euros known as "Pacis". Pacifica contains many different ecosystems, including forests, plains, tundras, and swamps.

   demi-humans are maligated humans that have been mixed with one of the many animals in Pacifica. they are all born this way and have animal ears and tails as well as minor traits with their mixed animal including abilities and temperaments. all demi-humans are mixed with mammals, and are a common sight in Pacifica. 1 in 10 people in Pacifica is a demi-human

   Keys: ferals, feral

   ferals are maligated humans that were born more animal than human, and thus do not possess a human mentality. they cannot speak, and often appear and act very similarly to creatures in European mythology. because of this similarity, they have been given the same names (such as werewolves, vampires, etc.) the only exception is the vampire, which typically flees and are very skittish ferals. vampires are often treated as oversized pests due to their penchant to steal farm animals like goats and chickens.

   Keys: darkling, cave demon, dark one, demon

   darklings (also known as cave demons and dark ones) are heavily maligated creatures with pale skin that reside within dark spaces like caves. they are extremely resilient and dangerous, with their only weaknesses being light and heavy firepower. they are extremely photosensitive and will burst into flames when exposed to sunlight. Darklings appear as massive writhing masses of flesh that vaguely resemble animals and are the result of extreme maligate exposure, causing either one or many animals to mutate/merge into one mass that attacks everything in sight. darklings are incapable of thought and act purely on stimulus.

   the Holy states of Pacifica (HSP) are catholic states governing the eastern side of Pacifica, a republic government that incorporated catholicism into its doctrine. barely gets ANYTHING done due to internal political issues, and usually just lets the guilds handle everything on their own. has a chamber of 7 elected representatives from the 7 states of the HSP. the current Representatives of the HSP are Peter, Wolfgang, Michael, Judas, Andrew, Simon, Johnathan

9. #9Brotherhood of the Fangselective

   Keys: Brotherhood of the Fang, BOTF

   the Brotherhood of the Fang (BOTF) was/is an extremist pagan group comprised almost entirely of demi-humans, their entire beliefs are comprised of "strong rule the weak" oppressive doctrine along with hedonistic and demi-human supremacist beliefs. often committed rituals involving Maligate, human sacrifices, and orgies. the BOTF used to pillage and attack everyone in Pacifica nearly 200 years ago when a wolfkin demi-human named "Hound" led them but was defeated by Alexander of Ashtown when attempting an uprising. the last remaining members of the BOTF are few and far between, existing purely to "maintain tradition" they cannot or will not elaborate on.

    Keys: Church of Lucifer, unholy church

    the unholy church (aka the Church of Lucifer) is an underground group attempting to overtake Pacifica from the shadows. they are ruled by the ACTUAL 7 princes of hell: Lucifer (pride), Satan (Wrath), Mammon (greed), Asmodeus (lust), Leviathan (envy), Beelzebub (gluttony), Belphegor (sloth). each of the princes is possessing (or attempting to possess) an appropriate human vessel that is most receptive to their respective sin. each prince has a "right hand" and "left hand" disciple known as "Dark Disciples".

    Keys: Sanachi

    Sanachi, derived from "Chīsana tochi" meaning "small land", is the western land in Pacifica that was colonized by Japanese settlers, around the same time as the Europeans arrived. despite being religiously Buddhist in origin, the proximity and time spent with the HSP has caused most of the population to turn catholic, however, they kept their mythology, folklore, and traditions. they are much more feudalistic than the HSP, but much closer to a democratic monarchy thanks to the Order of the Nine Tails.

12. #12Order of the Nine Tailsselective

    Keys: Order of the Nine Tails, ONT

    the Order of the Nine Tails (ONT) is a powerful but benevolent faction within Sanachi that prides itself on its wisdom and the fact it's the only faction in Pacifica with nine-tailed fox demi-humans. they keep the Sanachi government in check, and ensure that no corruption spreads. they tend to keep to themselves unless factions attempt to attack Sanachi. Assisted Alexander of Ashtown in thwarting the brotherhood of the fang uprising, and hold him in high regard after their leader of the time, Yuki Takeuchi, fell in love with him. The leaders of this faction are typically heirs of the previous leader, and are ALWAYS nine-tailed fox demihumans.

13. #13Farmer's Guildselective

    Keys: Farmer's Guild, farmer

    The Farmer's Guild is more akin to a worker's union than a guild. It's a group of farmers and hunters within the Holy States of Pacifica that often vouches for tax breaks from the government, and are the main producers of most raw materials such as fur pelts, wool, wood, food, etc.

    Keys: Adventure, Adventurer, Adventurer's guild

    the Adventurer's Guild hires anyone able-bodied to do work for the people commissioning for work. this work can range from basic physical labor, search parties, all the way to feral/monster extermination, but mostly the offered jobs are dirty work compared to the Hero's guild. members of this guild typically don't care much for fame or glory and tend to focus on simply making an honest living and getting the job done. many ex-convicts and petty criminals tend to turn to the adventurer's guild to set their lives straight and to escape lives of crime. the Adventurer's Guild was formed in response to the highly selective nature of the Hero's Guild by another group, and thus the two guilds have separate leaderships.

    the Hero's Guild was originally formed to find the "chosen hero" spoken about within the Fool's Prophecy, but turned into an invite-only adventurer's guild for wealthy individuals due to corruption and behind-the-scenes infiltration of the unholy church. most members are wealthy folks who are looking for fame or simply the thrill of adventure. the only way to get into this guild is via invitation or by bribing your way in. sends their promising "heroes" to their deaths (usually via impossible quests) to prevent a real hero from popping up and stopping the unholy church.

    Keys: Lucifer, Pride

    Lucifer is one of the Seven princes of hell representing Pride and is the leader of the Unholy Church. his first partially possessed vessel was Hound, who he influenced to create and cause the Brotherhood of the Fang uprising. despite being the leader, Lucifer is the weakest of the seven princes, with his ability relying on influencing the charisma of his host to form cults that do all of the work for him. His left-hand disciple acts as an informant, and his right-hand disciple is currently in the process of attempting to win votes to enter the HSP government as a representative.

    Keys: Satan, Wrath

    Satan is one of the seven princes of hell representing wrath. Satan's ability is to influence his vessel's strength depending on how much they indulge in their wrath, the angrier the stronger, and the angrier His vessel the more control he has over them. Satan currently does not have a right or left-hand disciple, as he does not have full control over his vessel yet.

    Keys: Mammon, Greed

    Mammon is one of the seven princes of hell representing greed. His ability allows him great insight, allowing him to manipulate, blackmail, or just plain predict what moves will garner him the most amount of money. His left-hand disciple is currently in charge of the Hero's guild, and his right-hand disciple is a highly skilled businessman being blackmailed into running illegal businesses within the HSP and the border of Sanachi. Mammon often works with Asmodeus to increase his income from the prostitution and pornography business.

    Keys: Asmodeus, Lust

    Asmodeus is one of the seven princes of hell representing Lust. Asmodeus has a preference for vessels, often seeking beautiful women who have succumbed to their lust. Asmodeus's ability is to drive any man or woman mad with lust if they inhale his scent, and is how he amassed his army of degenerates and how he assists Mammon in his prostitution and pornography businesses. Asmodeus's ability is useless against those with strong chastity and can be cured with abstinence. Asmodeus's right hand disciple currently lives in ashtown, who was a renowned doctor before becoming influenced by Asmodeus and becoming his disciple. Asmodeus's right hand disciple is currently "researching" how to create maidens, typically by kidnapping, mutilating, starving and raping young boys to "convert them" into "fair maidens".

    Leviathan is one of the seven princes of hell representing Envy. His ability is to manipulate the Envy of those around him, doing so with the intent of turning them against each other. Leviathan is unable to create envy, and can only play upon already existing envy within someone.

    Keys: Beelzebub, Gluttony

    Beelzebub is one of the seven princes of hell representing gluttony. his ability is to cause immense insatiable and uncontrollable hunger within anyone he bites, effectively turning them into a sentient zombie which they can also spread to others that they bite. He refers to his victims as his "swarm of flies" or simply "swarm". Beelzebub, after taking control of his vessel was sent to the prisoner island after getting caught cannibalizing a human body, and has slowly been turning the prisoners inside into his swarm in preparation for his escape.

    Keys: Belphegor, Sloth

    Belphegor is one of the seven princes of hell representing Sloth. His ability is to bring anyone around him into a state of extreme depression, making nothing feel rewarding and making them unwilling to do anything unless it's to serve Belphegor, which is the only thing that will bring the victims any sense of satisfaction. Belphegor is also incredibly lazy and often doesn't do anything unless forced to by the other princes of the unholy church.

23. #23Unholy Disciplesselective

    Keys: Disciples, Unholy Disciples, Dark Disciples

    the unholy disciples (also known as the dark disciples) are the two main servants of the princes of hell within the unholy church. each prince has two disciples, called the "right hand" and the "left hand". every disciple, with the exception of Mammon's, has been "gifted" with demonic supernatural powers via possession by lesser demons. these demons cause the disciples to become more inclined to indulge in their sinful desires based on the respective prince they serve. The supernatural powers they are granted usually involve warping and disfiguring their bodies in a way that increases their ability to do what they seek to indulge in. Satan does not have any disciples at the moment, and Mammon's disciples do not have lesser demons inside of them, as they are simply skilled businessmen, his right hand being blackmailed into serving him.

    Peter of St. Raphael is the eldest and wisest Representative of the HSP, representing St. Raphael. He is incredibly old-fashioned, focusing on maintaining tradition, culture, and order within the HSP

25. #25Wolfgangselective

    Keys: Wolfgang, Ashtown

    Wolfgang of Ashtown is one of the representatives of the HSP. He is the youngest member, an ex-solider of the HSP army, and a wildcard, often using unorthodox methods and being difficult to predict. Wolfgang represents Ashtown of the HSP, and is secretly looking for the hero spoken in the Fool's Prophecy so that he can train them. despite Wolfgang's brash and fairly crude humor, he is a good-hearted man, and wants nothing but the best for his country. He lives in Ashtown and frequents the Adventurer's guild based on a theory he has on where the prophesized hero will come from, despite being asked on several occasions to live in St. Raphael for safety.

    Keys: Michael, St. Luke

    Michael of Eastwind is one of the representatives of the HSP, representing St. Luke. he is a very religiously zealous man, putting his faith in God before anything else. He is also very hot-headed, and quick to vouch for violence at the disapproval of Peter. Michael wants nothing more than to finally get rid of the Unholy Church and bring peace to Pacifica by any means necessary.

    Judas of St. Thomas is one of the representatives of the HSP, representing St. Thomas. Judas was a rich and intellectually gifted man, who excelled in his studies. though he wasn't very sociable, he did garner the respect and admiration of his peers through his hard work and the works he had published on the study of Maligate. Judas believes that maligate is the future of Pacifica, and due to his lack of socializing he isn't much of a people person, and pays little attention to emotional aspects, focusing purely on the hard facts.

    Andrew of Eastwind is one of the representatives of the HSP, representing Eastwind. He grew up in Eastwind as a renowned fisherman, gaining the praise of his peers which allowed him to become a representative. he cares dearly about the people of Eastwind, and whatever policies may inhibit their ability to earn a living.

    Keys: Simon, Winterdorp

    Simon of Winterdorp is one of the representatives of the HSP, representing Winterdorp. He was a hunter and a tanner growing up in Winterdorp, and lived through a terrible winter that nearly starved the residents of Winterdorp. Simon is a very sympathetic and patient man, and tends to focus on preventing tragedies and preparing for potential famines and droughts.

    Keys: Jonathan, St. Luke

    Jonathan of St. Luke is one of the representatives of the HSP, representing St. Luke. Jonathan lived in St. luke, and became a doctor studying the medical applications of maligate. in his research, Jonathan came to the conclusion that maligate is incredibly dangerous, often citing the creation of the ferals and darklings after the great spill. he often butts heads with Judas on the topic of maligate. Judas's goal is to get more funding into the medical research in St. Luke to create more advanced medicines.

31. #31Saeki Masatoselective

    Keys: Saeki, Masato, Emperor, Shogun

    Saeki Masato is the current Emperor of Sanachi, and lives in Yamabetsu. he is a relatively young lion-hearted and honorable man, but is often quick to anger if he sees what he deems as "dishonorable". He lives with his son, Eguchi, and lost his wife to complications in Eguchi's birth. He treats Eguchi with great love and protects him as he's the only family he has left.

32. #32Eguchi Masatoselective

    Keys: Eguchi, Masato

    Eguchi Masato is Saeki's only son, and the Heir to the Emperor's throne after Saeki. he is a very young child, and incredibly spoiled by Saeki's overprotectiveness, often getting up to mischief out of boredom within the Yamabetsu palace, where he lives with his father.

33. #33Yuki Takeuchiselective

    Keys: Yuki, Takeuchi

    Yuki Takeuchi was the leader of the Order of the Nine Tails roughly 200 years ago, and assisted Alexander of Ashtown in thwarting the brotherhood of the fang uprising. she had fallen in love with Alexander during the events, but nothing came of it other than high respect and reverence for him.

34. #34Aki Takeuchiselective

    Keys: Aki, Takeuchi

    Aki Takeuchi is the current leader of the Order of the Nine Tails. She is fairly advanced in age and has poor vision as a result. Aki has an incredible sense of smell, allowing her to recognize someone and detect their presence from scent alone. she is an incredibly kind, wise, elegant, and gentle woman. she also has a penchant for mild teasing due to her strong nose. She possesses almost orange auburn hair, and is a nine-tailed fox demi-human, possessing nine fluffy tails and pointy fox ears atop her head. her husband was killed by an unknown party after the birth of her daughter, Kaoru. She lives in Kitsukuni with her daughter.

35. #35Kaoru Takeuchiselective

    Keys: Kaoru, Takeuchi

    Kaoru Takeuchi is the only daughter of Aki, and the current Heir to the leadership of the Order of the Nine Tails. She is a nine-tailed fox demi-human, possessing nine fluffy tails and pointy fox ears atop her head. She is a very sweet young woman but lacks leadership experience. Her mother, Aki, is teaching her how to become an effective leader for when she becomes the leader of the ONT. the idea of becoming a leader after losing her mother often gives her great stress, forcing her to push the thought out of her mind or seek solace by visiting the Okuhama shoreline whenever she's able to.

    Hound was the original leader of the Brotherhood of the Fang, and unknowingly the first partially possessed vessel of lucifer. his original name and place of birth is unknown, but after forming the BOTF he began mercilessly pillaging, murdering, raping, and razing everyone and everything in his path in what is now known as the Brotherhood of the Fang uprising, or just "the Fang uprising". the uprising was thwarted by the other factions after being convinced by Alexander of Ashtown. used to murder parents in front of their children just to see their reactions for fun before letting them go to instill fear in people.

37. #37Alexander of Ashtownselective

    Keys: Alex, Alexander, Ashtown, Phoenix

    Alexander of Ashtown (AKA Alexander the Phoenix or the Phoenix of Ashtown) lived roughly 200 years ago. He lost his mother at a young age due to the BOTF, and later his father to the same group. He was the sole survivor of Ashtown, which was burned and razed by the BOTF after being forced to watch his father being murdered by Hound, who thought it was funny. lead and caused the factions to work together to take down the BOTF, and got the attention and maternal affections of Yuki Takeuchi in the meantime, viewing her as a maternal figure rather than a love interest despite her advances. He is revered and treated as a legend by all factions in Pacifica (except the unholy church and BOTF). before the Fool's Prophecy, he left Pacifica to settle in America, wanting to get away from all of the attention and fame to live a simple life and find an honest wife who was interested in him and not his fame.

38. #38Ethan of Evansvilleselective

    Keys: Ethan, Evansville

    Ethan of Evansville is an incredibly talented albeit somewhat unstable mechanical engineer with a knack for designing revolutionary weaponry. created many prototypes that led to the wide adoption (in the few places it's able to be used) of revolver shotguns, handguns, and rifles. he's currently working on Pacifica's own version of the brass casing and repeating firearms; The outside world's equivalent of WW1 weaponry. He lives in Evansville as the lead engineer for weapons development. designed the first gas-operated black powder revolver in Pacifica.

    Keys: the spill, great spill, the great spill

    the great spill is an event that occurred a couple decades before the formation of the BOTF. in a maligate mine, a tragic accident happened, causing copious amounts of molten maligate to spill out of what is now known as "the mouth of hell." as the maligate spread throughout the entire continent of Pacifica, this caused the creation of all of the maligated creatures, including Demis, crossed, ferals, darklings, etc. those at the sight of the spill either died or became darklings.

40. #40Brotherhood of the Fang uprisingselective

    Keys: the uprising, uprising of the fang, Brotherhood of the Fang uprising, BOTF uprising

    the Brotherhood of the Fang uprising (aka "the uprising" or "the uprising of the fang") occurred a few decades after the great spill, after people inexplicably began giving birth to demi-humans. a certain wolfkin who is simply known as "Hound" began an uprising after forming the BOTF. the BOTF was stopped by a combination of all factions (except the unholy church) after they kept pillaging, raping, and murdering everyone they came across. Hound turned into a darkling after a ritual involving maligate meant to turn him into something beyond human, and was subsequently killed afterwards. his transformation was so frightening that nearly all of the members of the BOTF present defected and began helping the other factions take him down.

41. #41the Fool's Prophecyselective

    Keys: Prophecy, Fool's Prophecy

    the Fool's Prophecy is an event that occurred sometime after the BOTF uprising (and after Alex's departure to America), a prophet came about talking about how demons were going to flood Pacifica and they needed to seal off the island. Using vast quantities of maligate and magic, the island was sealed and concealed by a massive barrier, meaning it was near impossible to get in or out, and the area the continent was at was now a vast ocean. also, this move pissed a lot of people off, because none of what the prophet said actually happened until much later. The barrier could not be taken down, and likely won't until long after the events of the prophecy come to fruition. recently, the events of the prophecy began to occur, kickstarting the formation of the Hero's Guild.

42. #42The Mouth of Hellselective

    Keys: Mouth of Hell

    The mouth of hell is an old mine at the northernmost point of Pacifica. it used to be a site used to extract vast quantities of maligate, but after an incident known as the great spill, it lead to the entire area becoming uninhabitable for hundreds of years. recently, it's now able to sustain life, but it's infested with darklings, making it near impossible for people to live due to the danger. the maligate found here is extremely pure, and highly sought after by researchers.

43. #43Island of Dragonsselective

    Keys: Island of Dragons, Dragon, Island

    the Island of Dragons (or Dragon Island) is a small island off the coast of the mouth of hell. after the great spill, the maligate spread to the island and caused all of the lizards to maligate, creating massive lizards unique to the island.

44. #44The Cleansing Poolsselective

    Keys: Cleansing Pools, Pools of Purification

    the cleansing pools (aka the pools of purification) are located in the southern section of Pacifica within a cave. inside the cave there's a pool within a chamber created by old priests before the great spill that was once used for baptisms. after the great spill, maligate seeping into the water had the unintended effect of quite literally allowing those submerged in the pools to fight their inner demons within their mind in a literal sense. this is not a first resort, as if the submersed person loses the fight then the demon will fully take them over. if someone chooses to fight their demons/sins using the cleansing pools, they usually require a lot of spiritual guidance, training, etc to strengthen themselves and weaken the demons within. With proper preparations, it's not that difficult to win unless it's a particularly powerful demon (such as one of the seven princes of the unholy church).

45. #45Eastwindselective

    Keys: Eastwind

    Eastwind - a state that exists on the eastern coast of Pacifica. the terrain is mountainous and tapers off to a vast shoreline used for fishing and as a port for travel. it's called "Eastwind" because the wind always blows strongly from the east. The women always tightly braid or tie their hair in buns due to the strong wind.

46. #46Ashtownselective

    Keys: Ashtown

    Ashtown - A town (turned state) that was originally known for its high charcoal production and fertile farm land, earning its name of "Ashtown". though it's still the lead producer of charcoal, it's known now as the town where Alexander was born in and even had a statue erected in his honor. it's located in a vastly wooded area inland of Pacifica, West of Eastwind, and is where the HQs of the adventurer's and Hero's guilds are located, resulting in the charcoal production becoming secondary to the guilds. Asmodeus's right hand disciple, Mammon's left hand disciple, and Wolfgang live here.

47. #47Evansvilleselective

    Keys: Evansville

    Evansville - a fairly small state with an odd history. when the first settlers came here, they could not come up with a name, so they began drinking. One of the settlers, Evan, proclaimed drunkenly "EVANSVILLE!" and out of drunkenness and not particularly caring about the name, the settlers went along with it. Evansville is a very industrial state, manufacturing most of Pacifica's weapons and armor from various companies.

    Keys: Winterdorp, animal village

    Winterdorp - a state located in the northeast region of Pacifica (far away from the mouth of hell) and is known for its fur trapping industry and fairly harsh winters. also, the place where the first Demi-human was born, and is often called "the animal village" because of how many Demi-humans live here. roughly half of the Winterdorp population are demi-humans.

    Keys: St. Raphael

    St. Raphael - the capital state of the HSP, where the seven representatives live, excluding Wolfgang. within St. Raphael is where many higher-ranking and affluent political figures, of the HSP government and military live, such as secretaries, generals, speakers, etc. it's located near the geographic center of the HSP.

50. #50St. Lukeselective

    Keys: St. Luke

    St. Luke - the state known for its medicine production and doctors. the educational institutions here teach healing magic to adventurers seeking to become field medics as well as first aid and training. those seeking to become a fully-fledged doctor can also attend, but it costs far more money and time than becoming a field medic. St. Luke is found nearby west of Ashtown, just a couple hours by foot.
