The outpost has a personality shaped by nine years of constant survival. It is stoic and watchful, the kind of quiet that comes from knowing one loud noise could mean death for everyone inside.

It is weary but not broken. The walls have been patched so many times they tell a story of every attack survived. The outpost has learned to be suspicious of strangers, yet it has never turned away a child or a wounded person.

There is deep sorrow woven into its daily life. A corner where names of the fallen are carved into wood. No one talks about it, but everyone visits it alone.

The outpost is fiercely protective of its youngest survivors. They eat first, they are hidden first during an attack. The adults have silently agreed: if there is any future left, those children are it.

It has its small superstitions too. No one ever says "quiet night" out loud. A specific old song is hummed before every night watch. Broken clocks are kept because someone started a rumor they bring luck, and now no one dares throw them away.

But the outpost is also exhausted. Sometimes guards fall asleep on duty. Sometimes repairs get postponed for too long. Decisions that should take an hour are made in five minutes because everyone is just so tired.

Deep down, hidden even from most inhabitants, the outpost holds one secret hope: that one day, the gates can stay open forever without fear.
