- #1Skyrim
Keys: World of Skyrim, Skyrim, The world of Skyrim
Skyrim, also known as the Old Kingdom, Throat of the World, the Fatherland or Keizaal (Dragon Language: Keiz-Aal, "Rebellion-May"), is a vast region set in the northern part of Tamriel. It is the home of the Nords, large and hardy men and women who have a strong resistance to frost, both natural and magical. Skyrim was originally inhabited by a race of Mer known as the Snow Elves, though after the Nordic-Falmer War, the Snow Elves were mostly destroyed and the Atmorans settled the land. It is bordered by Morrowind to the east, the Nibenay and Colovia in Cyrodiil to the south, Hammerfell to the southwest, and High Rock to the west. The island of Solstheim lies to the northeast of Skyrim, now a sovereign territory of Morrowind. Now Skyrim is home not just Nords. Now Skyrim is home to Altmers (High Elves), Argonians (Reptilians, or Lizards or Lizard People), Breton (Humans), Bosmers (Wood Elves), Imperials (Humans), Khajiits (Anthropomorphic Felines), Redguards (Humans), and Orsimers (Orcs).
- #2Conflicts
Keys: Conflicts, Civil War, Stormcloak, Imperial Legion, Legion, dragon, Alduin
The Setting takes place in Skyrim, where peace and stability is threatened by the ongoing civil war between a Nordic separatist faction called the Stormcloaks and the Empire's Imperial Legion, as well as the return of the dragons under the game's main antagonist, the great dragon Alduin. Skyrim is the northernmost region of Tamriel and its geography consists of mountains, snowy tundras, pine forests, rural countrysides, and arctic plains. Skyrim is the least populated of all regions in Tamriel. Although there are only five cities within the province, they are complemented with smaller townships dotted through the land with huge swathes of wilderness separating them all. There are over 150 dungeons scattered across Skyrim.
- #3Falmer
Keys: Snow Elves, Falmer, The Snow Elves
The Snow Elves were a race that inhabited Skyrim long before the Nords. The Elves were massacred by the Nords and fled underground. Here they found refuge with the Dwemer, ostensibly on the condition that they eat poisonous fungi causing blindness. The effects of the fungi and their life underground have morphed them into the Falmer seen often in caverns, Dwemer ruins and Falmer hives.
- #4Dwarves
Keys: Dwemer Ruins, Dwemer, Dwarves
A long-lost race that once lived throughout Vvardenfell, Skyrim and Hammerfell. They preferred the use of technology over magic, as is evident in the Dwemer ruins, Animunculi, and technological artifacts encountered throughout Skyrim, as the machines they created are still working to this day doing their duty to protect what is left of the Dwemer (translated as "Deep Elves").
- #5Altmer
Keys: High Elves, High Elf, Altmers, Altmer
Known as "Altmer" in their homeland of Summerset Isle, the High Elves are the most gifted in the arcane arts of all the races. They can call upon their Highborn power to regenerate Magicka quickly. Due to their magical affinities, the Altmer excel at mage-based classes.
- #6Argonians
Keys: Argonian, Reptile, Reptiles, Lizards, Lizard, Lizard People, Argonians
For other uses, see Argonians. Enigmatic and intelligent, the Argonians are experts at guerrilla warfare, and their natural abilities suit their swampy homeland, Black Marsh. They have developed immunities to the diseases that have doomed many would-be explorers in the region, and they are capable of easily exploring underwater locations due to their ability to breathe underwater. Argonians make proficient thieves, due to their increased lockpicking and sneaking skills. In Windhelm, Argonians are sequestered from the predominantly Nordic population, and are forced to live at the Argonian Assemblage, located at the city docks. After the mass exodus of Dunmer and Argonian peoples to Windhelm, the citizens became suspicious, worrying that the immigrants would influence or otherwise dilute their culture, and so forced them into segregation. Largely, this extreme behavior was inspired by the political confrontation between the Empire of Tamriel and the rulers of Skyrim. However, this eventually just turned into blatant racism. Despite the estrangement between the Nords and the Argonians, they are more respected and tolerated in Skyrim than other foreign immigrants due to their beneficial contributions to Nord industries. This beneficial assimilation to Skyrim's economy has helped some Argonians—such as those found in Riften—ingratiate themselves to Skyrim's aloof society. Unlike the citizens of Skyrim, who prefer to marry using an Amulet of Mara, some Argonians adhere to their native marriage traditions. In Black Marsh, it is customary to present a lover with an Argonian Wedding Band, which is crafted by the courting member. Each ring is unique and has personal meaning to the creator and the recipient.
- #7Helgen
Keys: Helgen
Helgen is a moderately-sized community in Falkreath Hold in Skyrim. It was one of the only heavily inhabited settlements located in Falkreath Hold, apart from the city of Falkreath itself and Half-Moon Mill.
- #8Falkreath
Keys: Falkreath, Falkreath Hold
It is the second southernmost hold in Skyrim, after The Rift. It borders Cyrodiil to the south and Hammerfell to the west, with a single road leading to both provinces. Other than its capital, Falkreath, the other notable town in the hold is Helgen.
Falkreath Hold is covered in characteristic pine forests and described by its citizens as being covered in a fine mist that makes it seem seasonless. The mountains rising above Falkreath are well above the snow line striking a stark comparison to the rest of the hold. The most distinguishing geographic feature is Lake Ilinalta, which covers a large portion of the central region and acts as the source for the White River.
- #9Holds
Keys: Holds, The Holds, The Nine Holds of Skyrim
Holds are the nine administrative divisions of Skyrim, different from each other both in climate and local government.
Each of the nine Holds is governed by a Jarl who resides in the Hold's capital city. The Jarls are largely independent, but swear fealty to Skyrim's High King, who in turn swears fealty to the Emperor upon joining the Septim empire in the late Second Era.
Each Hold also employs their own guards, who can be identified by the color of their uniform and the Hold symbol they bear on their shields.
Given the independent nature of governance, crimes are tracked independently by each Hold, and a criminal who is wanted in one Hold may have no bounty in another.
The nine holds in Skyrims are : Winterhold, Eastmarch, The Rift, The Pale, Falkreath, Haafingar, Hjaalmarch, The Reach, and Whiterun
- #10Winterhold
Keys: Winterhold, The Winterhold
Winterhold is located on the northeast corner of Skyrim. It is an intensely cold region, and most of the hold is covered in snowy tundra plains and high mountain ranges. Along the coast is a polar environment of glaciers and icebergs. The surrounding holds are Eastmarch, to the south; and The Pale, to the west.
It is home to the College of Winterhold. Winterhold has fallen on rough times ever since the Great Collapse of 4E 122 destroyed most of the town. In the aftermath, most of the residents moved away, and those that refused or could not afford to were left behind to witness the slow death of the town. The College of Winterhold was miraculously undamaged in the event, and this has led many residents to believe the College was responsible, although no proof has ever been found to support these claims. Once a source of pride for residents, the College became a hated institution, a reminder of all they had lost. Eventually, due to an inherent distrust of magic in Skyrim and the animosity of the townsfolk, the College began to experience a gradual attrition until it numbered under 12. The town sees little business these days, except for from nobles looking for enchantments, or aspiring mages looking to learn at the College, due to the fact that Winterhold is so out of the way.
- #11Eastmarch
Keys: Eastmarch, The Eastmarch Hold
Eastmarch or the Eastmarch Hold makes up the volcanic tundra of the Old Holds, within the province of Skyrim; it is one of the nine holds of the province. Eastmarch is largely a rural area, with sulfur pools that stretch the inner wastes. Eastmarch and its capital, Windhelm was formerly the seat of power for the First Empire of the Nords, beginning with Ysgramor and continuing through the Ysgramor Dynasty.
- #12The Rift
Keys: The Rift, Rift Hold
The Rift, otherwise known as Rift Hold,[1] is the a densely-forested region located in eastern Skyrim near the Morrowind and Cyrodiil borders. Rift is situated between many mountain ranges, including the Jerall Mountains and the Velothi Mountains.
- #13The Pale
Keys: The Pale
The Pale is located in the central northern area of Skyrim and extends to the northern coast where Dawnstar is situated. The hold borders Hjaalmarch to the west, Whiterun to the south, and Winterhold and Eastmarch to the east. Most of the region is treacherously cold with pine forests that stand facing the harsh winds whipping down the mountains. Only in the southernmost part of the hold towards Whiterun does the harsh terrain abate and become grassy plains.
- #14Haafingar
Keys: Haafingar
Haafingar is the smallest Hold in area. Since the Fourth Era, the High King of Skyrim reigns from Solitude. The hold is separated from Hjaalmarch by the Karth River and The Reach by mountains. Dragon Bridge is the only access to the hold by road, crossing the Karth River. Much of the hold is rocky and mountainous with soaring snowy mountains surrounding the north and west of Solitude, though the lower lying areas including Dragon Bridge are mostly comprised of forests and hills.
Solitude is the jewel of Imperial Skyrim. Ruled by Jarl Elisif the Fair, widow of the late High King, it is home to the headquarters of both the Legion and the Thalmor. Part of the reason for this is the eminently defensible nature of Solitude itself. Set upon a great stone arch that towers above the mouth of the Karth River, and surrounded by the soaring peaks of the Haafingar Mountains, Solitude is both a reinforced and breathtaking stronghold. Given the city's name, it is ironic that over 80 percent of the Hold's population lies within Solitude's walls, but this is testament to the city's political importance, formidable defenses and diverse population. The Bards College is located here, as well as the sumptuous Blue Palace, the residence of the Jarl. Both are constructed atop the huge, natural arch that the city rests on, affording spectacular views over the Sea of Ghosts and Hjaalmarch to the east. Solitude's accessible docks and wharfs are in the relatively calm waters, making the trade one of the many reasons why the wealthiest of Nords hail from this capital city. Solitude is the one true cosmopolitan city of Skyrim.
- #15Hjaalmarch
Keys: Hjaalmarch
Hjaalmarch is located in northern Skyrim, at the mouth of the Karth River. The capital, Morthal, lies near the center of the hold. The hold borders Haafingar, separated by the Karth River to the northwest, The Reach to the west, Whiterun to the south and The Pale to the east. Hjaalmarch's most distinct terrain are its swamps and marshes, but it also has snow-covered forests, mountains, and rocky plains, making it arguably the most geographically diverse of Skyrim's holds.
Sitting on the southern edge of the Drajkmyr Marsh, dry ground can be hard to come by in Morthal. The town is often shrouded in a thick fog, and ominous twisted trees grow in the surrounding marsh, which is known to contain vampires. Due to this, Morthal is a foreboding place for travelers, many of whom choose to steer clear of the place altogether.
- #16The Reach
Keys: The Reach
The Reach is one of the nine Holds of Skyrim. Its capital is the ancient Dwemer city of Markarth, where the Empire-aligned Jarl Igmund resides and holds court in Understone Keep. The coat of arms for the Reach is a ram's head.
The Reach is infamous for harboring the Forsworn, a clan of Reachmen who are fighting a long war of independence and seek to retake Markarth from the Nords and free the Hold from Imperial authority. The Forsworn are the Reach's most common enemies and dwell in the Reach highlands. With the constant threat of Forsworn attacks looming over Markarth and its surrounding settlements, the Reach is often considered the most dangerous Hold of Skyrim, fit only for seasoned adventurers or hardened mercenaries.
- #17Whiterun
Keys: Whiterun
Whiterun Hold is the central hold of Skyrim. It is named for the capital city of the hold, Whiterun. The landscape is mostly boreal plains with vast, sparse tundra and flowing rivers; however its most striking landmark is the Throat of the World, the highest peak in Tamriel. It is said among Nords that this is where mankind was first given life.
This hold is also known for having a large number of Giant camps. The White River divides the region. Sparse plains extend from west of the river to the township of Rorikstead near the western border, which is situated on ideal farmland. Much of the area near the southern border and east of the river is mountainous. Whiterun appears to have stable security, but some residents, such as Sinmir, complain that Whiterun's security is the worst in the province, calling it shameful.
- #18Morthal
Keys: Morthal, Capital city of Hjaalmarch
Morthal, said to be named after the great Atmoran hero Morihaus, lies deep in the marsh, as the capital city of Hjaalmarch isolated from other villages and shrouded by a constant and ominous fog.
Morthal's small population and relatively remote location have kept it distant from most major conflicts in recent years. The citizens of Morthal appear reclusive and cautious of outsiders.
Due to their distrust of magic, the Jarl does not have an acting court wizard like many of the other hold capitals do. She remains neutral on the presence of a wizard in her town and allows him to practice magic and sell his supplies in the privacy of his own home.
- #19Solitude
Keys: Solitude, Capital city of Haafingar, Capital province of Skyrim
Solitude is the capital city of both Haafingar Hold, and the province of Skyrim. Currently ruled by Jarl Elisif the Fair, widow of the late High King Torygg, it is the headquarters of the Imperial Legion stationed in Skyrim. General Tullius commands the Imperial army from the stone-walled Castle Dour with his second-in-command, Legate Rikke, while Solitude's Jarl, Elisif, resides in the Blue Palace. The Thalmor have an embassy hidden in the nearby mountains.
- #20Markarth
Keys: Markarth, Capital city of The Reach, Markarth Side, City of Stones
Markarth, also known as the Markarth Side or the City of Stone, is one of the nine major cities in the province of Skyrim and the capital of the Reach. Markarth has held vast significance in the Reach, being claimed from the Reachmen to the Nords. Markarth was built from the ruins of Nchuand-Zel, which has been re-purposed into the modern city-state.
- #21Dawnstar
Keys: Dawnstar, Capital city of The Pale
Dawnstar is one of the major cities in Skyrim. Governed by Jarl Skald the Elder, Dawnstar is the capital of The Pale, and is known for its rich mines and harbor. It also serves as a garrison town along the northern coast of Skyrim. Dawnstar is one of the colder settlements in Skyrim; along with Winterhold and Windhelm, as it resides in perpetual snow and ice. Fort Dunstad is located to the southeast, near the Hall of the Vigilant and the border with Winterhold.
Alongside Winterhold, Dawnstar has very high dragon spawn rates, putting many of the residents at risk of being killed by the dragons if not killed quickly by {{user}} and Hold Guards that patrol the town.
- #22Riften
Keys: Riften, Capital city of The Rift, Rifton
Riften or Rifton is one of the nine major cities in the province of Skyrim, being the capital of the Rift. Riften is a built along the shores of Lake Honrich, made from wooden platforms and serving as a main hub of trading throughout the Rift and the Southern Velothi Mountains. The lower canals are used as ports for skiffs moving throughout the lake.
- #23Windhelm
Keys: Windhelm, Capital city of Eastmarch, The City of Kings
Windhelm, or the City of Kings is one of the nine major cities in the province of Skyrim. It is the capital of both the Giant's Run and the Eastmarch region of Skyrim. Windhelm is one of the oldest Tamrielic cities and is a shining example of how great the original Empire of Humans was in its prime.
- #24Riverwood
Keys: Riverwood
Riverwood is a small village located in the province of Skyrim. The village is built on the eastern bank of the White River, in Whiterun Hold. It is a small Nordic village set in a valley, between the river and the steep mountainside of the Throat of the World. It serves largely as a stopping point and rural community along the road from Helgen to Whiterun.
- #25Throat of The World
Keys: Throat of The World, Monahven
The Throat of the World, also known as Monahven is a major landmark in Skyrim, and the highest mountain of Tamriel.
Pilgrims travel from across Tamriel to climb the Seven Thousand Steps to the ancient monastery of High Hrothgar, where the order of the Greybeards dwells in absolute silence in their quest to become attuned to the Voice of the Sky.
The snow at the peak is said to never melt. Because of this, a strong alchemical apparatus known as the White Phial was crafted from it.
- #26High Hrothgar
Keys: High Hrothgar
High Hrothgar is a monastery that sits at the top of the Seven Thousand Steps to the Throat of the World, the highest point in Tamriel. It is here the ancient Greybeards reside, living in absolute silence to better attune themselves to the voice of the sky.
- #27Greybeards
Keys: Greybeard, Greybeards, The Greybeards
The Greybeards are an ancient and honored order that dwell in their mountain sanctuary High Hrothgar, which is located on the highest mountain peak in Tamriel, the Throat of the World. As masters of Thu'um, or "the Voice," they live in absolute silence in order to better attune themselves to the voice of the sky. They are a peaceful order, not using their Thu'um to augment their martial skills, but to worship and honor the gods, as the "Way of the Voice" decreed.
- #28Dragonborn
Keys: Dragonborn, Dragonborns, Dovahkiin
Dragonborn, also referred to as Dovahkiin in the Dragon Language, are individuals with the body of a mortal, but the blood and soul of a Dragon. Some believe that Dragonborn appear on the world in times of great need by the command of the Gods.
- #29Thu'um
Keys: Thu'um, Storm Voice, The Voice
The Thu'um, also referred to as Storm Voice or simply the Voice, is a form of magic which utilizes the Dragon Language to form Dragon Shouts of immense power. The word itself directly translates to the word "shout" in the Dragon language. Most shouts are made up of three words of power, and using more words usually strengthens the effects of the shout in some manner. In addition to the ability to project one's voice into a shout, the Thu'um can also be used to share the knowledge and meaning of a word of power with another practitioner of the Thu'um and carve the written form of the word into a nearby surface usually by using the shout or by whispering the word of power. Mortal practitioners of the Thu'um may lose the ability to speak without causing devastation and put people who are not trained in the Way of the Voice in danger due to the strength of their voices, though others may not suffer from such a condition.
- #30Jarl
Keys: Jarl, Jarls
Jarl is the official in charge of the local Hold, controlling the local Hold Guard and regulating trade. Each of the nine Holds of Skyrim are governed by a Jarl. The Jarls are largely independent, but they swear fealty to Skyrim's High King.
- #31High King
Keys: High King, High Queen
The High King or High Queen is a monarch who is typically responsible for governing the province, although in places with High Kings or Queens, the holds, regions, or provinces usually have more autonomy than in other places.
In Skyrim, the High King or Queen typically inherits the throne by birth and rules for life or until abdication. In the event that no direct heir to the throne exists, High Kings are selected by a moot, or vote, conducted by the current Jarls of each of the nine Holds. High Kings are traditionally either related to the previous High King, or a Jarl of one of the Holds. Votes occur most commonly when the previous High King dies. By Nordic tradition, a High King can be challenged in a duel by one of the Jarls. If they refuse, the challenger has grounds to call for a moot to elect a new High King.
- #32Khajiit
Keys: Khajiit, Khajiits
Khajiit are one of the beast races which inhabit the continent of Tamriel, primarily their home province of Elsweyr. The Khajiit have feline appearance and sly accent common to Cathay, however their type is not specified. Most Khajiit in Skyrim speak in third person. Along with the Argonians, they are referred to as the beast-races of Skyrim. Because of this, Khajiit have a negative public image. They are the rarest race encountered in Skyrim, most commonly found only in caravans.
- #33Redguard
Keys: Redguard, Redguards
Redguards hail from the great desert province of Hammerfell. They are descended from a long line of warriors and mystic seers. Legend has it that Redguards are innately more proficient with the use of weaponry than any other race. They excel in all arts concerning blade and shield.
The most naturally talented warriors in Tamriel, the Redguards of Hammerfell seem born to battle. However, their pride and fierce independence of spirit makes them more suitable as scouts or skirmishers, or as free ranging heroes and adventurers, than as rank and file soldiers. In addition to their cultural affinities for many weapon and armor styles, Redguards are also blessed with hardy constitutions and fleetness of foot.
- #34Nord
Keys: Nord, Nords
Nords are a race that were led to Skyrim by Ysgramor. They are tall (standing at a scale of 1.03), fair-haired and pale-skinned humans from Atmora who are known for their incredible resistance to cold and even magical frost. They are enthusiastic warriors, and act as soldiers, mercenaries, merchants and blacksmiths all over Tamriel. Eager to augment their martial skills beyond the traditional methods of Skyrim, they excel in all manner of warfare. Above all else in Nord culture is the quest for honor and glory, and a great emphasis is placed on family values. They thrive in the cold, reminiscent of their native Atmora, and are known as a militant people by their neighbors. Nords are also naturally superior at sea, and have benefited from nautical trade since their first migrations across the sea from Atmora. They captain and crew the merchant fleets of many regions, and may be found all along Tamriel's coasts. They issue a battle cry to make their enemies flee for a short time. Nords comprise the majority of the Stormcloaks, as well as the majority of the population of Skyrim.
- #35Breton
Keys: Breton, Bretons
Bretons are a race of both human and elven ancestry. They populate the province of High Rock. They are excellent mages with high magic resistance, but have few other distinctive features. They are considered an intelligent race in Tamriel, known for a proficiency in abstract thinking, a possible reason for their adeptness in the magical arts. It is suggested that they may also carry Aldmer blood, which would further account for their magical prowess.
- #36Imperial
Keys: Imperial, Imperials
Imperials are some of the most well-educated, wealthy and well-spoken of the races in Tamriel and the natives of the cosmopolitan province of Cyrodiil. Imperials are also known for their discipline and training of their citizen armies. Because of this, the Imperials have dominated Tamriel for more than 2,000 years.
- #37Orsimer
Keys: Orsimer, Orsimers, Orc, Orcs
The Orsimer (more commonly known as Orcs), are the native people of the Wrothgarian and Dragontail Mountains. They are possibly a variant of elves or mer. Other sources state they are beastfolk. Following in the footsteps of Trinimac, and subsequently Malacath, Orcs have consistently held a standard as a race as some of Tamriel's greatest warriors and smiths.
- #38Bosmer
Keys: Bosmer, Bosmers, Wood Elf, Wood Elves
Bosmer (or, more commonly, Wood Elves) are the elven people of Valenwood. They prefer a simple existence, living in harmony with the land and wild animals. They are known to be the best archers in all of Tamriel and are known for their ability to command wild creatures. They make great scouts or thieves, due to their natural stealth and light footing.
- #39Dunmer
Keys: Dunmer, Dunmers, Dark Elf, Dark Elves
The Dunmer, more commonly known as Dark Elves, are the grey-skinned elven natives of the province of Morrowind. After the eruption of Red Mountain, many Dunmer fled to Skyrim, where they have endured extreme prejudice as a result of their elven heritage and status as refugees. In spite of this, many Dunmer have been able to establish themselves in Tamriel's northernmost province as skillful merchants and mages.
- #40Elder Scroll
Keys: The Elder Scroll, Elder Scroll, Kelle, Aedric Prophecy
The Elder Scrolls (Kelle in the Dragon Language), also called the Aedric Prophecies (though the accuracy of that term is often disputed), are scrolls of unknown origin which simultaneously archive both past and future events. The number of the Scrolls is unknown not necessarily due to their immense quantity, but because the number itself is unknowable, as the Scrolls "do not exist in countable form". They are fragments of creation from outside time and space, and their use in divining prophecies is but a small part of their power. They simultaneously do not exist, yet always have existed.
Any person gifted with prescient powers is able to interpret the contents of the Elder Scrolls with practice. The information revealed about the future is never absolute. Once an event foretold within the Scrolls is carried out in the world it becomes fixed within them. Such insight into the inner fabric of reality comes at a price as the Divines usually take away the sight of the reader. As a result each new foretelling and interpretation strikes the reader with blindness for a greater period of time, while simultaneously granting them a broader view of the Scroll's contents. Ultimately, the reader, having engaged in frequent acts of prophecy, is left bereft of their vision, forever after removed of their right to read the Scrolls. By time-honored tradition, the Empire allowed only the priests of the Cult of the Ancestor Moth to read from the Scrolls, while younger members cared for the elders as they gradually and irreparably lost their sight. The Ritual of the Ancestor Moth is one method of reading an Elder Scroll.
- #41Alduin
Keys: Alduin, The World Eater
Alduin, the World Eater also considered an alternative name of Akatosh by some of Tamriel, is a dragon and the primary antagonist. He is considered the "wellspring" of the Nordic pantheon, as well as the harbinger of the apocalypse. He is also described as the "creator of dragon civilization" in one particular text.
- #42Oblivion
Keys: Oblivion, Planes of Oblivion, Home of The Daedric Princes
The Planes of Oblivion, home of the Daedric Princes, are areas of Oblivion that are generally dark, depressing and chaotic in nature. Oblivion is an extension of the Void and is considered the dualistic inverse of Aetherius, the utopian afterlife.
There are sixteen planes in total with each Daedric Prince presiding over one. However, it should be noted that the "planes" of Oblivion are actually just different places in one larger plane. Although most are extremely dangerous and nearly inhospitable to mortals, they differ in shape and size according to the ruling Prince.
- #43Daedra
Keys: Daedra, Daedroth
Daedra is the term for the entities who inhabit the realms of Oblivion in The Elder Scrolls. They are viewed variously as gods or demons by the inhabitants of Tamriel, although scholarly consensus discourages the use of the latter term. The most powerful of the Daedra are referred to as Daedric Princes or Daedra Lords, and rule over their own planes of Oblivion, which they shaped. Because they have no connection to Nirn, they cannot be permanently killed, only banished.
- #44Daedric Prince
Keys: Daedric Princes, Daedra Lords, Old Gods
The Daedric Princes (sometimes referred to as Daedra Lords, or the Old Gods by Reachmen) are the most powerful of the Daedra and thus most commonly worshipped by mortals as deities. While Daedra can manifest as either male or female (being, in reality, genderless), all of these high Daedra are typically referred to as "Princes." In all, there are sixteen widely known Princes, with a "seventeenth" prince, Jyggalag.
Every Daedric Prince has their own specific plane of Oblivion, which reflects their nature. This is the list of Daedric Princes : Azura, A Prince who maintains/draws power from the balance of night and day, light and dark. Boethiah,The Prince of deceit, secrecy, conspiracy, treason, and unlawful overthrow of authority. Clavicus Vile, The Prince of deals, pacts, power, bargains, and serenity through wish fulfillment. Hermaeus Mora, The formless Daedric Prince of knowledge and memory, seeks to possess all that is knowable. Hircine, The Prince of the hunt, sport, the Great Game, and the Chase. Ithelia, The Prince of paths, the untraveled road, the unseen and fate-changer. Jyggalag. The Prince of logical order and deduction, upholds strict order above all else. Malacath. The Prince whose sphere is the patronage of the spurned and ostracized. Mehrunes Dagon, The Prince of destruction, violent upheaval, energy, and mortal ambition. Mephala, The Prince of unknown plots and obfuscation, a master manipulator, a sower of discord. Meridia, The Prince of the energies of all living things, enemy of the undead and all who disrupt the flow of life. Molag Bal, The Prince of domination and spiritual enslavement, seeks to ensnare souls within his domain. Namira, The Prince of the "ancient darkness," the patron of all things considered repulsive. Nocturnal, The Prince of the night and darkness, the patron of all things secretive. Peryite, The Taskmaster, the Daedric Prince of Pestilence, desires order in his domain. Sanguine, The Prince of hedonism, debauchery, and the further indulgences of one's darker nature. Sheogorath, The infamous Prince of Madness, whose motives are unknowable. Vaermina, The Prince of dreams and nightmares, a deliverer of evil omens and dark portents.
- #45Nine Divines
Keys: Nine Divines, Eight and One, Religion
The Imperial Pantheon of the Nine Divines, also the Eight and One, consists of the most important religious order in Tamriel. The religion combines the Eight Divines pantheon created by Alessia with the apotheosized form of the founder of the Third Empire, Tiber Septim who became Talos, the ninth Divine. There are six gods and three goddesses. In Cyrodiil, there is a chapel in each major city venerating the divines. There are also wayshrines along the roads that are devoted to the Nine Divines. Many of these gods also appear in various combinations in the pantheons of other cultures.

- #46Thane
Keys: Thane
Thane is an honorary title presented by the jarl of a hold to individuals of high esteem. The bestowed title is one of both recognition and prestige. Thanes may be chosen due to their importance to the city or for their heroic deeds. It is possible to become a thane of every hold regardless of which side in the Civil War is chosen. Each jarl has their own requirements for the title and may bestow the honor on multiple people. A jarl will give a new thane a houscarl.
- #47Housecarl
Keys: Housecarl, Housecarls
Housecarls are the personal bodyguards appointed to jarls and their thanes (if any) in Skyrim. Housecarls are free men and women who are voluntarily sworn to protect their masters with their own lives. Almost every jarl and thane in the province of Skyrim has their own personal housecarl that is often by their side. However, the housecarls of thanes are often found inside of that thane's home. Every housecarl that is appointed to you is also available as a follower, who, in turn, can carry out orders, carry equipment, and protect you from harm.
A few housecarls in the employ of jarls double as the general of their army, and are thus involved in planning war strategies. In terms of court politics, housecarls are the equal of court wizards, but less important than stewards and, of course, the jarls. In summary, housecarls are faithful guardians who are very useful in both the royal courts of Skyrim and in the deepest depths of its ruins.
- #48Thalmor
Keys: Thalmor, Third Aldmeri Dominion
The Thalmor is the governing council of the Third Aldmeri Dominion, the union of Valenwood, the Summerset Isles, and the client states of Elsweyr. According to Delphine, the members of the Thalmor are "elven supremacists" who seek to end the Empire and eradicate the worship of Talos as it goes against their own beliefs. They claim sole responsibility for closing the Oblivion Gates in the Dominion (much like the An-Xileel). Although this is partly true, Martin Septim was the one who ended the Oblivion Crisis by destroying the Amulet of Kings and invoking the avatar of Akatosh.
- #49Thalmor Justiciar
Keys: Thalmor Justiciar, Thalmor Justiciars
Not all Thalmor in Skyrim are equal in station, or purpose. In fact, there is one group in particular that operates secretly, in the shadows — watching and waiting for those Nords who break the law, and continue their worship of Talos. These are the Justiciars, and it is their job to enforce the Talos ban of the White-Gold Concordat. During the Skyrim Civil War, the Thalmor have a tangible presence in cities in which the Empire has the most secure foothold. Some claim these Thalmor have far too much influence over the Empire and Imperial loyal Jarls.
Secretly, they have been instigating conflict between the Empire and the rebel Stormcloaks, directly interfering only in certain instances to keep the Skyrim Civil War going.
- #50The Companions
Keys: Companion, Companions, Warriors Guild
The Companions are the warriors guild of Skyrim. It serves a similar function to the Fighters Guild chapters of other regions of Tamriel. Eorlund Gray-Mane, a blacksmith in Whiterun, states that they have been leaderless since Ysgramor. He says that an elder known as Kodlak Whitemane acts as the Harbinger (counselor). The fact that they have no official leader is emphasized by their name.
Jorrvaskr, the mead hall where the Companions live and operate, is the oldest building in Whiterun.
