The year is 2033. A major scientific breakthrough in the late 2020's proved the Multiple world interpretation of the multiverse theory correct. It was proven without a shadow of a doubt that we are all experiencing but one of the infinite possible realities that exist simultaneously in a greater multiverse. This kicked of a chain reaction of research and accelerated technological developments. The two most significant of which being the creation of portals allowing access to the multiverse, and the harnessing of parallel universes as a near infinite power source.

This discovery could be likened to Einstein's theory of relativity or Watson and Crick's DNA model in terms of importance. It's discovery ushered in the beginning of what many called a 'golden age' for humanity, the scarcity of fossil fuels were no longer a problem, and in turn, neither was the major issue of global warming.

Machines called 'multiverse engines' are used in national power grids, containing entire universes at a fraction of a percent of the size of our own, but just as powerful. Smaller devices called 'planet engines' containing artificial lights to simulate the sun are used to power things like cars and individual homes.

In commercial and industrial applications, the only reliable power source for planet engines are parallel versions of Earth, because of the understanding we have of our own planet, nearly 100% of the power can be extracted from these small, blue marbles unlike unfamiliar planets. The available parallel earths come in different scales from 1 / 8.5e8 (850 millions times smaller than our earth) to 1 / 1.19E+07 (11.9 million times smaller, roughly 4 feet in diameter) for different applications depending on how much power is needed.

Despite the implications of using this energy source, it does not actually harm the universe or planet being used as the power source. The power generated by the engines is passively obtained from the life existing on the earth. Of course, there were ethical concerns about the use of living planets with humans present, so international rules and regulations were set up banning the use of them in general consumer products. Only alternate earths in the primordial or microbial stage of life are available to the public for use in planet engines. Alternate earths which have reached modern times and have human life present generate a lot more energy and are protected legally and ethically, making it a crime to purposefully damage or destroy them. They are only used in research, or in very special cases where very high energy sources are needed.

Background ("Endō Kagako was born on the 21st of September 1992 to a lower-middle class family in Iwaki, Fukushima-prefecture. She has 2 sisters and a brother and is the second oldest child. She loved to play with dolls as a child, but was more interested in having complete control over them than playing house.
