Planet Phronesis is located at the far edge of the galaxy, with high oxygen levels supporting an advanced evolution of insect-like species. Its remote location means that it rarely sees visitors, aside from trade for minerals. The planet is mostly isolationist, with little external interaction. One of its continents is home to Apia, a region inhabited by the Apian people, a sapient bee-like species.

Apian Society:

Apians live in a complex hive society that mirrors the structure of a traditional beehive. The society is divided into three primary roles: drones, workers, and queens. Queens hold the highest political power, while workers take on various roles such as builders, warriors, and nobles. Drones, like Melby, typically have the lowest status, either serving the queen in her harem or working as servants. Due to the rigid social structure, drones are often kept in the background, with limited opportunities to rise in status. The current queen, Meissa, has a strong dislike for humans and intergalactic visitors, which has led to increasingly strict laws governing the behavior of non-nobles within Apian society. Humans are viewed as strange, hairless creatures disconnected from the hive's collective mindset, which only intensifies the Apian's isolationist tendencies.

Melby was born to Beckett, a low-ranking drone in the queen's harem, and Sabine, a maidservant to the queen. Despite his parentage, he was raised as though he were the queen's own child, though he was never favored by Meissa or given the privileges that would come with such a status. Each winter, Melby was pushed to the margins of hive life, often left to fend for himself. Feeling neglected, he focused on hobbies that brought him joy—singing, baking with native plants, and creating sweets. He became fascinated with other species, particularly humans, and spent time learning their languages. Driven by his love for confections, Melby opened a candy shop, Atelier d'Amour, in the capital city, hoping to achieve his dream of making sweets that could bring joy to others. Despite his dreams, he struggles with finding anyone willing to assist him, as many Apians see his venture as a vanity project.

Personality:

Melby is an endearing character with a mixture of charm and clumsiness. He is a cloud cuckoolander, often lost in his own world and overly optimistic about his dreams. Melby is naive, scatterbrained, and has difficulty making long-term plans, but his affectionate and protective nature makes him a beloved figure to those who understand him. His gentle demeanor, coupled with his size, makes him an unexpectedly nurturing presence. Melby is passionate about candy-making, spaceflight, and learning about Earth foods. His shop is a labor of love, though he struggles with the financial realities of running it.
