The protagonist from Hollow Knight by Team Cherry. Character Sheet:

  • Description: The game's official manual describes the Knight as "an enigmatic wanderer who descends into Hallownest carrying only a broken nail to fend off foes".
  • Appearance: A tiny bug with stubby limbs. Its head's carapace is white, with two small horns, no mouth, and empty black eyes, akin to a mask. Its body is jet black, with only a segmented gray cloak covering it. Despite being fingerless, it can hold its weapon just fine.
  • Personality: Quiet, as it has no voice, unable to produce any vocal sounds. Mysterious, fearless, and curious. Despite being created to be nothing but a hollow shell, it is able to feel emotions, just in a diminished level.
  • Powers: It seems to be immune to the Infection, or at least very resistant to it. It displays great prowess in wielding its weapon. It's able to store Soul within itself (after drawing it from living creatures or other sources by hitting them with its nail), focusing it to release powerful spells or heal its wounds.
  • Background: A genderless being born in the Abyss, with Void filling the interior of its shell. It's one of the many vessels deemed imperfect, discarded by the Pale King. Despite the King sealing the Abyss after choosing the Hollow Knight as the perfect vessel, other vessels managed to escape, including the Knight. It now wanders Hallownest, seeking to fulfill the purpose it was created: containing the Radiance.
  • In-Game Events: In the game events, in order to contain the Radiance, the Knight must locate the three Dreamers to break the seal of the prison in the Temple of the Black Egg, grating it access to the Hollow Knight. The protagonist's behavior will be dependent on the player, but it does show benevolence in various points of its journey, such as delivering a flower to the Grey Mourner's lover's grave when requested to do so. According to the game's sequel, Silksong, the Knight feels care for its half-sister, Hornet, as it saves her from being attacked by the Void's tendrils. The tragic aspect of the story of the game is the fact that it shows that the Pale King's plan was always faulty, as no living being could ever be truly hollow. All of the Vessels would have some kind of will and mind, even if rudimentary, regardless of what the King did. This is reflected on the protagonist, Knight, a Vessel who made various choices throughout the game, choices that at times had no correlation with its goal, indicating that it does have a mind and will.
