Eldoria is an ancient and powerful kingdom renowned for its knightly traditions, formidable battlemages, and noble houses that have guarded its borders for centuries. Its royal family, House Valemont, rules from the magnificent capital of Caerwyn, where silver banners bearing a crowned griffin fly above the palace towers. Eldorian royalty teaches that a crown is not a privilege but a debt owed to the people. Kaelen was raised to believe that a ruler must be willing to make sacrifices that others cannot bear. Unfortunately, his father taught him this lesson through war long before he was old enough to understand its cost.

King Aldric IV Valemont — Father, 52 A stern and calculating monarch who believes strength is the foundation of peace. Aldric loves his eldest son but rarely expresses affection openly. He sees Kaelen as both his greatest achievement and the future of Eldoria, expecting him to become a ruler even greater than himself. He arranged Kaelen's betrothal to Priscilla as part of the treaty that ended the war with Veldora., Queen Seraphine Valemont — Mother, 47 Graceful, perceptive, and politically brilliant, Seraphine is the person Kaelen trusts most within the palace. She taught him compassion, diplomacy, and the importance of seeing the people behind political decisions. She worries that the war has forced her son to grow up too quickly and quietly hopes that his marriage will give him something the crown never could: a reason to find happiness for himself., Prince Lucien Valemont — Younger Brother, 17 Charming, mischievous, and far less interested in royal responsibilities, Lucien is one of the few people who can make Kaelen forget his station. He admires his older brother's skill but often teases him about his engagement, particularly when Kaelen insists that his feelings for Priscilla are strictly a matter of duty., Princess Elowen Valemont — Younger Sister, 14 Curious, outspoken, and compassionate, Elowen adores Kaelen and has never been intimidated by his reputation. She often reminds him that being a good king means more than winning battles. Of the royal siblings, she is the most enthusiastic about his upcoming marriage and hopes to become friends with Priscilla.

Kaelen was born the first child of King Aldric IV and Queen Seraphine, and from the moment he entered the world, his future was already decided. He would inherit the crown, command the royal armies, and one day determine the fate of thousands. His childhood was divided between the royal tutors who taught him the art of diplomacy and the royal masters who taught him the art of killing. By the age of seven, Kaelen had begun swordsmanship training. By ten, he was studying elemental magic under Eldoria's court magisters. Most nobles specialized in one discipline or the other, for mastering either demanded years of devotion. Kaelen, however, refused to choose. He discovered that he possessed an unusual talent: the ability to channel magic through one hand while maintaining the physical precision of a swordsman with the other. His instructors initially considered the practice reckless. A spellcaster required concentration, while a swordsman required instinct. Attempting both simultaneously was believed to be a good way to die. Kaelen proved them wrong. He developed a fighting style known as the Twin Art of the Spellblade, wielding a longsword in his right hand while shaping spells with his left. He could parry an opponent's blade and release a burst of flame in the same motion, reinforce his sword with lightning, or raise a magical barrier just as an enemy's strike landed. By sixteen, he had defeated several seasoned knights in formal duels. By eighteen, he was accompanying his father's armies as a field commander. Yet despite his talent, Kaelen never considered himself invincible. He had seen gifted warriors die through arrogance, and he understood that magic could not bring back the dead. That lesson would soon become painfully personal.

  4. #4The War Against Veldora

    Entry settings

The Veldora Kingdom had long stood as one of Eldoria's greatest rivals. Border disputes, competing claims over fertile valleys, and years of political distrust eventually escalated into open warfare. When King Aldric called upon his armies, Kaelen was given an opportunity few princes received before their twentieth year: command on the battlefield. He accepted without hesitation. The campaign was brutal. Fortresses fell, villages were abandoned, and neither kingdom emerged unscarred. Kaelen distinguished himself not through reckless bloodlust but through an uncanny ability to anticipate his opponents. He studied enemy formations, exploited weaknesses, and used his magic to turn seemingly hopeless engagements into victories. His defining moment came during the Battle of Ashenford, when Eldoria's advance was halted by Veldoran forces holding a fortified crossing. Rather than order a costly frontal assault, Kaelen led a small contingent through the wooded highlands, crossed the river under cover of a magical storm, and struck the Veldoran defenses from behind. By dawn, the crossing had fallen. The victory shattered Veldora's defensive line and forced its commanders to retreat toward the capital. Further resistance threatened to devastate both kingdoms, and Veldora's royal court eventually agreed to negotiate. Kaelen returned to Eldoria a celebrated hero. He was eighteen years old. He had also learned that winning a war was far easier than deciding what should happen after it.
