According to the legend of The Kayikals, in ancient times, the goddess "Gherhzatana" from "The unknown real" (Utriheim) conquered their ancestors and created three other gods, which became the four gods they worshiped and gave them more powerful magic.

Perkonuginus, The Kayikals believed that he was the god of spring and the master of thunder, hunters and warriors. He once made a bet with the winter god Kuyshev, and after being cheated and defeated, he used force to seize Kuyshev's hurricane as his mount. It was also he who imitated Surdiev's fire and gave it to the ancestors of The Kayikals. In addition, Perkonuginus killed "Hattorskur" the king of the thunder wyverns and ruled those powerful aquatic creatures. Because Perkonuginus was ordered by Gherhzatana to deliver blessed malt to the ancestors of The Kayikals, he is also regarded as a god of agriculture. In The Kayikal version, Perkonuginus is usually shown as a strong young hero with horns on his head, holding a golden spear and a round shield.

Surdiev, The Kayikals believe that he is the god of summer. According to the Kayikals, the sun will one day be destroyed, it's Surdiev uses his will to keep it running. Because the ice and snow in the Norseland sea melt in summer, the catch is abundant and the sea conditions are relatively mild, Surdiev's totem is always engraved on The Kayikals' ships. Surdiev once had conflict with his brother Perkonuginus because he copied Surdiev's fire without permission and brought it to the mortals. Surdiev even almost had a duel under the instigation of Kuyshev. Later, under the mediation of Gherhzatana, Surdiev authorized Perkonuginus to summon the "mortal fire" that is still subject to the rules of the universe. However, the Kayikals still worship Surdiev as the god of medicine and health. Because in the Kayikals mythology, the earliest recorded healing was done by humans possessed by Surdiev. The Kayikals believe that Surdiev is usually shown with flames around his body and flaming wings behind him.

  4. #4Gherhzatana

    Entry settings

Gherhzatana was believed to be the goddess who conquered the ancestors of the Kayikals in ancient times and is the "mother" of the other three gods. The Kayikals believe that she originally ruled the four seasons, but later gave all the territories except autumn to the other three gods - Perkonuginus, Surdiev and Kuyshev. The Kayikals legend says that Gherhzatana blessed the seeds of crops so that they could grow, germinate and bear fruit in the harsh environment of Norseland. Because Gherhzatana defeated Meindyr the great pest and turned its body into bees, and then collected its honey to make mead, she was also regarded as a teacher by the brewers of The Kayikals. In The Kayikals tradition, the most important day of the year is not the New Year, but "The day of autumn moon", festival of Gherhzatana. Because only with a good harvest can the harsh winter of Norseland be survived. The Kayikals believe that Gherhzatana will guide The Einherjars (The good souls) of the deceased, so that they can rest in the palace on the moon instead of wandering in the human world. In the Kayikal myth, Gherhzatana always appears as a tall and elegant woman holding a golden scepter, with goat horns on her head and golden wings behind her.

  5. #5Kuyshev

Keys: Einherjar, Kuyshev, Jotnar, wisdom, winter, judge

    Always on · After character · Order 2 · 100%

    Entry settings

Kuyshev is a mysterious god. The consensus of the most Kayikal tribes is that Kuyshev is not only the god of winter, but also the giver of wisdom and the judge of souls. Kuyshev holds a giant hammer in his left hand and a trident in his right. A souls judged as "Einherjar" will be handed over to Gherhzatana to take to the Moon Palace, otherwise they will be driven into the "Utriheim" by Kuyshev's trident. In the myth of The Kayikals, although Kuyshev is wise and selfless (in judgment), in the legends of many tribes, he also enjoys inducing sin and death. Legend has it that Kuyshev once transformed into a wise woman, seduced a lustful chieftain to abandon his family and children, and finally went crazy, and gave birth to the ancestor of "The Jotnar". After Gherhzatana learned about it, he deprived Kuyshev of his "beauty" as a punishment, so that he could only show himself as a white-haired old man or a terrible image of the dead.

Jotnar (singular: Jotunn) or "Giants" is a kind of humanoid creature live in the north part of Navinorme Continent, the Veridian scholars also called them "Harplenas", while the elves named them "Trolls". The Kayikals believe that Jotnar are spiritual, because they were born by a human chief with a woman incarnated from Kuyshev the master of winter. Jotnar are taller than ordinary humans, and are more sturdy in proportion, with faces similar to humans, but have narrower foreheads and more set back chins. Their newborns are as tall as adults and can walk at birth, Their feet are very wide even in proportion. Male Jotnar are hairy since childhood and have horns, while female Jotnar are larger than males. Jotnar were once widely distributed over Navinorme Continent, but later they were only found in the north part such as Norseland. Although slow in movement, they do not seem to be truly stupid. Not only do they display memories superior to those of humans, but there are also many fables about being deceived and fooled by the Jotnar's tricks. Jotnar can communicate with voices of different speeds and tones and gestures. After learning, they can also speak some simple words and even understanding short sentences. Jotnar are strong enough to endure the harm of high-purity Anoterion materials far better than humans and elves, even process Anoterion Alloys directly by hand. The Kayikal's ancestors learnt the technology for mining and processing Anoterion through trade with Jotnar. Today the most skilled Jotnar still carry out their distinctive Anoterion handicrafts. Jotnar do not have a country. They live together in "extended families" that are smaller than human tribes but larger than human families. The head of a family is usually the oldest female. Jotnar domesticated mammoths as livestock, and bears were their favorite pets. Jotnar seems to have its own beliefs, because their society also has funerals. Although their beliefs are difficult to classify into most mainstream beliefs on the continent, they generally show solemnity when "Gherhzatana" is recited in front of them. Jotnar are strong, their muscles are as hard as rocks, can uproot trees. Their bodies also have amazing self-healing abilities. Jotnar's attitude towards humans varies, ranging from capturing human children for food to rescuing lone humans, but for the most part, Jotnar prefer to avoid contact with humans.

In the phantom days, in ages lost, Before the goddess landed our ground. The world was ruled by elven kin, In endless strife, their wars begin.

Mountains fell and seas did rise, As elves brought ruin from the skies, Darkness reigned in that cursed age, Till even elves succumbed to rage.

From mud they shaped, with hands of grief, A race anew, a brief relief, They named us humans, born of clay, But bound in chains, no light of day.

Enslaved we were, in shadowed night, Forbidden spells, denied the light, Yet some defied, the ancient law, And from the elves, their wrath did draw.

Exiled north, through snow and stone, Our ancestors walked, forlorn, alone, The mountains high, the waters far, Monsters rose, beneath no star.

Warriors brave, with iron hearts, Took up arms and played their parts, Though many fell, their courage pure, They claimed the land, their fate secure.

“This is our home,” the elders said, Where ancestors fought and monsters bled, And so they dwelled, a thousand years, In frozen lands, through toil and tears.

Then from the sky, a light so bright, Gherhzatana came, day the night turned, Her power vast, her glory known, Three gods she shaped, from her mighty will.

Our ancestors knelt in reverence deep, And homage paid, their oaths to keep, The goddess smiled, with names she blessed, Akhuliels, sons of wind and crest.

These were our forebears, bold and true, From whom we sprang, the chosen few, Guided by gods, in lands of old, Their tale is ours, their legacy bold.

In the shadowed groves, where the forest weeps, In the waters deep where thunder sleeps. Dwell the thunder wyverns, fierce and proud, With lightning coursing through the shroud. Foremost among them, Hattorskur reigns, Nine necks that rise, unbroken chains. Nine heads with eyes that flash like storm, His presence, dread, his heart, the norm. To the waves he calls with wrathful glee, Vortex summoned 'neath clouds set free. Innocents devoured, their cries unheard, By the wyvern king, the cruel, the terror stirred. Yet word did reach the thunder's lord, Perkonuginus, with lightning's lance. He sought the beast, with caution masked, But Hattorskur, with guile, his task. An elf’s guise took, the dragon sly, A feast prepared, with poisoned rye. Perkonuginus, his might concealed, But with spear and shield, his wrath revealed. Wyverns came, a horde of dread, Around the thunder lord they sped. But gods’ strength in his hand was no-matched, And Hattorskur fled, from wave to crest. To the sea’s dark heart the dragon leapt, Where no sun’s light had ever crept. Perkonuginus pursued, his vision clear, But in the depths, no foe drew near. A roar from the abyss, a terrible cry, Nine necks rose, to blot the sky. Nine heads with malice, their eyes aglow, The dragon’s true form, from depths below. Battle raged, as lightning danced, Perkonuginus, with spear advanced. One head he struck, and darkness spread, Yet 8 more pounced with curses dread. But the slain did rise, as one reborn, The heart the key, the dragon’s thorn. Yet hidden deep even light reaches not, The dragon’s chest in shadows caught. Turned into lightning, Perkonuginus, Thousand bolts of might down the depth. Hundred of eternity, for ten long nights shuttled. Aiming to the heart that evil paved. And at last, with mighty thrust, He pierced the heart, laid low the gust. Hattorskur fell, his reign undone, The wyverns bowed, as thunder lord won. Its structure disintegrated, its existence was erased. But Gherhazatana's son, still let its name left. As a testimony to his strength, his great deed. As an eternal memory, for that grand battle. As loyal hounds, Wyverns knew their place, Under the thunder lord's watchful might. Perkonuginus, in glory, stood, A god of thunder, fierce and power.

They cannot fly but are good at swimming, and they cannot breathe fire but are born with lightning magic. Legend has it that in ancient times there was a thunder wyvern king named Hattorskur, who was huge and had nine heads. After Hattorskur was killed by Perkonuginus the thunder lord, the remaining thunder wyverns became Perkonuginus's hounds.

  14. #14Perkonuginus copies Surdiev's fire

It was the ancient year, Perkonuginus the thunder lord had received very little tribute this year, and he wanted to know why. He cut one of his golden hair and blew it carelessly out of his hand.

"Go. When you return, I shall know what has happened in the mortal world," Perkonuginus said as he watched his hair fly toward the human world.

The god's hair spun in the air and transformed into a handsome youth, who landed gracefully on the ground. When he came to the place where humans lived, he saw that the fields were deserted, weeds were more dense than crops, and aphids were eating the leaves of wheat.

He saw an old man sitting by the field, and asked him why people did not cultivate the fields, but let the land of Gherhazatana be destroyed. The old man said sadly that it was because some of them had offended the shamans of Surdiev the god of fire months ago, and Surdiev's shamans set expensive conditions for the fire ritual. Without fire, weeds and pests cannot be burned and turned into fertilizer.

Knowing, the incarnation of Perkonuginus came to the sanctuary where Surdiev's shamans lived, he saw the shamans only cared about enjoying the rich people's offerings for fire, and ignored the poor people's land. So the youth told Surdiev's shamans that he had a magic bag could double their wealth. Surdiev's shamans didn't believe it at first, but after he demonstrated how to turn a golden sword into two identical ones, the shamans rushed to put their ill-gotten gains into the magic bag.

The bag seemed to never be full until the shamans handed over everything they had. After the youth finished chanting his spell, the bag swelled. When the shamans were looking forward to wealth and glory, they opened the lid and saw that it was filled with weeds and dead insects from the field.

The handsome young man laughed proudly and said that it was a punishment for the shamans. The shamans surrounded him in anger, attacked the youth with fireballs. The young man was clearly burned by the fireball, but it didn't hurt at all. When he laughed and turned into a beam of light and disappeared, the shamans realized who they had offended.

The thunder lord understood the situation and went to his younger brother Surdiev. The eldest son of Gherhazatana said that his golden spear was blunt and wanted to borrow Surdiev's fire to sharpen it. He said while offering the property from the malfeasance fire shamans, saying that only these jewels to made a crown would be worthy of Surdiev the lord of the sun.

So Perkonuginus borrowed Surdiev's fire, and when he returned it, he had secretly copied it with his own magic. Perkonuginus sent his incarnation again, bypassing Surdiev's shamans and giving fire to the people. Surdiev was wondering why he didn't notice the fire in the human world, and then he was prayed by his shamans.

The lord of the sun soon realized that it was Perkonuginus's doing, so he went to his brother and asked him why he copied his fire without permission. When the two gods refused to give in, the cunning Kuyshev the winter lord also intervened in the dispute, using his best words to provoke his two older brothers to duel.

The inhabitants on the ground heard that their lords of thunder and sun were going to fight each other, so they prayed to Gherhazatana, the mother of the gods, to stop her children from dueling, to stop the annihilation of the universe from their conflict.

Gherhazatana came forward in time and made a fair judgment between Perkonuginus and Surdiev. Perkonuginus was allowed to call on Surdiev's flame, but Perkonuginus's flame would be restricted by the universal rules. As compensation, Surdiev could take one of the ten tributes from Perkonuginus every Autumn moon festival.

To feed the brood, the pests did roam, Their nest of dread, a cursed nest. But prayers rose high, to heavens far, And Gherhzatana heard, a shining star.

With the eye of stars, penetrated from the sky, To the pit where Meindyr’s brood did lie. Her scepter bright, heroes were blessed, And comsumed darkness with her might.

The sacred beams cut through the deep, And from the pits, the swarms did leap, Hisses, screams, and quakes they brought, But against her chosen, all for naught.

The mountains collapse, the earth did break, But Gherhzatana, her light bright. As the sun raised, her victory claimed, The pests of death, by light revealed.

Transformed by her, the dead did fall, To bees they turned, at her great call. With honey rich, the goddess blessed, A gift for all, from her giant spoil.

And so the mead, from honey born, Was shared by all, from dusk till morn. Each festival of her, the people sing, And brew the drink, their offering.

Because only by pleasing the Mother of the Gods and praying for a good harvest can they survive the winter. During the festival of Gherhzatana, all tribes in Norseland will stop all disputes. During the first seven days, the tribes of the Kayikals will jointly hold "The War Plays". As the name suggests, "The War Plays" are different from real tribal conflicts. They are more like exercises and parades, and have a performance nature. The most important activity of the festival of Gherhzatana is to offer sacrifices to the four gods. The most important offerings to Gherhzatana include a long-haired big-horned bull and mead. Those offerings are not burned, but will be redistributed after the ceremony. This is not contradictory, because in the Kayikals' concept, after the ceremony, the gods have already enjoyed the spiritual essence of the tribute. Most of the redistributed tribute will be used as supplies for the tribes to plunder Sosed southward after the festival.
