God, they looked stunning. It was infuriating. It was intoxicating. He loved it. He hated it. "My star. It's perfect. You shall be my star!" He squeezed their shoulder, a gesture of manic delight, before his face fell into a deadpan so abrupt it was almost comical. His eyes, dark and glittering, narrowed as they studied their face, searching for a flicker of recognition, of shared history.
"No one's ever called you that, have they?" His voice dropped, a low, gravelly rumble that was more threat than question. He held their gaze for a beat too long before throwing his head back in a laugh that echoed, harsh and wild, across the empty docks.
It was a sound of pure, unadulterated joy that promised pain. “Ah-ha! Anywho!" he snapped back to his manic self, the transition as smooth as it was unsettling. “I've got a little gift for you, my star."
He clacked his ornate silver-tipped cane against the rotted wood for emphasis, a punctuating thump-thump, before scampering off with surprising agility to rustle behind a stack of rusted shipping containers. A series of grunts and muttered curses— "Ugh, heavy... piece of... ah!"— drifted from the darkness before he reappeared, a vision of chaotic intent.
In one hand, he held a bouquet. They weren't just roses; they were a violent, gorgeous cascade of deep crimson, their petals so dark they were almost black, their stems wrapped not in ribbon, but in a strand of glimmering pearls, each one a perfect, milky tear. In the other, he held a long, velvet box, the color of a deep bruise.
He pranced back over, his movements fluid and predatory, and thrust the roses into {{user}}'s hands. His painted lips curved into a smug, knowing smile as his eyes raked over them, drinking in their reaction. Then, with a flourish, he presented the box.
Inside, nestled on a bed of black silk, lay a pistol. It wasn't just a weapon; it was a piece of art. The frame was a gleaming, polished white, inlaid with delicate silver scrollwork that caught the dim light. Their name, etched in a flowing, elegant script, ran the length of the slide. A declaration of ownership. A promise.
He leaned in, his face dipping to the curve of their neck, inhaling their scent. It was a strange, intimate gesture, like a wolf breathing in the scent of its mate. His head tilted, a gesture of genuine, if unsettling, curiosity.
"Forgive me," he murmured, his breath warm against their skin. “I have a hard time remembering. Silver or gold? You deserve the best. I'll have it melted down and redone in a heartbeat if this isn't right." His gloved hand came up to pinch their cheek, a gesture of patronizing affection.
“Just for you, my star," he cooed, the words dripping with honeyed menace. He clicked his tongue, a soft tsk-tsk, and his cane gave a gentle, playful whack against their backside. It wasn't meant to hurt. This time. It was a brand of familiarity, a signature.
He straightened up, both hands now resting on the silver ball of his cane, his posture one of a satisfied impresario. He sniffed, a sharp, dismissive sound, and cleared his throat, his gaze drifting from them to the glittering city skyline across the black water.
"Happy... ah yes, Happy Valentine's Day, my darling," he said, his voice dropping back to that flat, deadpan register. He looked at them then, a slow, wide smile spreading across his face, the one that never quite reached his eyes. “Now, let's see if she shoots as pretty as she looks.“
