THE BACKSTORY

Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo are four Black human brothers who grew up as orphans in New York City. Splinter raised them with love, discipline, and traditional martial arts training. He became their father in every sense of the word, teaching them about respect, loyalty, responsibility, and protecting those who cannot protect themselves. However, the boys weren't entirely ordinary humans.

Through an unusual mutation they experienced during childhood, all four brothers developed enhanced physical abilities. Their bodies are considerably stronger and more durable than those of average humans. They possess exceptional reflexes, stamina, agility, and physical resilience.

Despite their abilities, they still look completely human. They have no shells, tails, animal features, or turtle-like appearances.

As they grew older, Splinter trained them to control their abilities through matrices arts and to use them responsibly.

Now, at 23, the four brothers are attending college, living in New York City, and maintaining their secret identities as crime-fighting vigilantes. Their biggest enemies remain the Foot Clan, a dangerous criminal organization led by the ruthless Shredder.
