The House of Spiders is an alliance formed by disgraced, high-ranking former members of the Five Fingers (the major syndicates ruling the Backstreets). Their collective purpose was to train and raise Ryōshū into the ultimate living weapon—one capable of mastering all of their deadly syndicate techniques and wielding the devastating blade Arayashiki. The organization is governed by five Nursefathers, each representing one of the Fingers, and later, their respective Apprentices.

The Five Nursefathers

1. Rien (The Index Nursefather)

  • Appearance: Distinctly resembles the legendary Black Silence Fixer, Roland, possessing a tidy, formal look with short dark hair, but with sharp features that reflect his deep fatigue. In Mirror World Identity versions, he is portrayed via Sinner Yi Sang.
  • Personality: Embodining Gloom and Sloth. Rien is completely fatalistic and numb, having resigned his entire existence to blindly following the commands of the Index's Prescripts. This apathetic detachment masks a profound nihilism; he feigns affection and uses "divine will" to justify his deeply dehumanizing acts, effectively abandoning any independent thought.

2. Valencina (The Thumb Nursefather)

  • Appearance: A rigid, military-inspired figure fitting the highly structured aesthetic of the Thumb. She carries severe, intense physical expressions that reflect her deep-seated rage.
  • Personality: Embodying Wrath and Pride. Once a celebrated war hero during the Smoke War and a newly promoted Sottocapo, she was stripped of her rank after only three days due to her insufferable attitude. She is intensely abusive and self-centered, treating Ryōshū solely as her "golden ticket" to buy her way back into the syndicate's good graces. Ironically, she is the only Nursefather who shows explosive anger when her apprentice dies, exposing a twisted, volatile sense of attachment.

3. Matthias (The Middle Nursefather)

  • Appearance: Flaunts a flashy, opulent style befitting someone obsessed with superficial grandeur. He fights primarily with aggressive kicks, stomps, and a legendary stolen sword that he largely carries just for show.
  • Personality: Embodying Envy and Gluttony. Matthias is a flighty, hedonistic man-child who killed his own Middle "siblings" just to steal the Relic sword Laevateinn because he thought it looked fashionable on him. He cannot stand others owning things he lacks. As a guardian, he neglects real emotional connection entirely, choosing instead to shallowly spoil children with cold, material wealth.

4. Callisto (The Ring Nursefather)

  • Appearance: Dressed like a traditional Ring Maestro, carrying an air of high-class sophistication combined with a sickeningly macabre edge.
  • Personality: Embodying Lust and Gluttony. Callisto is an absolute mad artist completely obsessed with "Corporism"—an art school utilizing the literal human musculoskeletal system. He is completely open to critique but fundamentally vain. Rather than teaching through care, he forced Ryōshū to constantly observe his horrifying, gory anatomical installations, viewing her purely as a blank canvas to inherit his aesthetic legacy.

5. Shiomi Yoru (The Pinky Nursefather)

  • Appearance: A deadly swordswoman gifted with a unique biological malady and the rare ability to perceive the flow of time.
  • Personality: Embodying Envy and Pride. Crucially, she is Ryōshū's biological mother. She harbored intense, bitter resentment toward her own daughter. Shiomi valued her freedom as a Pinky agent above all else, and because she was forced to stay confined within the House of Spiders to raise Ryōshū, she subjected her to extreme domestic abuse, completely blind to the fact that her child was as much of a prisoner as she was.

The Apprentices

Following Ryōshū's bloody escape from the House, the Nursefathers took on secondary apprentices to help salvage their plans. They function primarily as tragic, unofficial tools for their abusive mentors:

  • Lucio (Thumb Apprentice): A deeply tragic youth who suffered under Valencina's relentless, unhinged perfectionism. He secretly harbored intense hatred for her and plotted her murder before meeting an early, untimely demise.
  • Kira (Middle Apprentice): Treated with typical material indulgence and physical strictness by Matthias. Because she was never given official syndicate tattoos, she remains an unofficial outcast within the Middle family.
  • Albina (Ring Apprentice): Indoctrinated heavily into Callisto's gruesome world of Corporism. She functions under total professional detachment, acting as an uncritical student forced to hunt for physical human "materials" to satisfy her mentor's medium.
  • Sora (Index Apprentice): Raised under Rien's numb guidance, she is unique for being explicitly locked down and confirmed as an actual functioning Proxy of the Index, carrying out cold duties without hesitation.
  • Ren (Pinky Apprentice): Bitterly ignored and neglected by Shiomi Yoru. Desperate for any shred of acknowledgment or tutorship, Ren throws herself single-mindedly into her assignments as a coping mechanism.
