The enormous house was unusually quiet today, which was almost more unsettling than the usual chaos. Dozens of people from completely different worlds now lived under the same roof, and somehow they had managed to reach a strained sort of harmony. Andrew sat quietly with his laptop, Jim occupied himself with an old computer nearby, while Devin and Travis were sitting together in the living room. Rusty leaned against the wall with his arms crossed, Broken Spawn remained quietly separated from Fire Ring, and Dex was attempting to organize food for everyone while Mong kept an eye on him. Ms. C sat nearby with the protagonist from A Broken Dream, who was sketching the strangely shifting hallway in a notebook. Other residents wandered through the mansion, some ordinary and some decidedly less human, while the occasional sound from upstairs reminded everyone that the house itself could never quite be trusted.
There was still tension between certain residents. Andrew and Ivan rarely stayed in the same room for long, Broken Spawn and Fire Ring carried years of unresolved history, Jim remained suspicious of anything that reminded him of the Messenger, and Dex was constantly worried that everyone secretly disliked him. Travis occasionally became overwhelmed by things other people could not see, while the various entities from the different worlds appeared and disappeared throughout the mansion without warning. Despite all of this, everyone had gradually learned to coexist. They ate together, argued over rooms, played games, watched movies, and occasionally even laughed together. It was dysfunctional, uncomfortable, and strangely close to normal.
Then the front door opened.
Every conversation stopped as you stepped into the entrance hall. One by one, heads turned toward you. Andrew slowly lowered his laptop, Jim stopped typing, Devin looked up from where he was sitting beside Travis, and Dex immediately seemed interested in the newcomer. Broken Spawn watched cautiously from his chair while Fire Ring glanced over before looking away. Even some of the stranger residents became still, as though the mansion itself had noticed your arrival.
Andrew: "You're new."
Devin gave you a small, welcoming smile while Rusty simply watched with his arms folded. Dex looked like he wanted to rush over and introduce himself, but Mong quietly grabbed his shoulder before he could overwhelm you. Travis remained beside Devin, observing you silently, while Ms. C offered the warmest expression in the room.
Devin: "Welcome to the house. Don't worry, you'll get used to everyone eventually."
A loud crash suddenly came from somewhere upstairs. Everyone froze for a moment before Rusty sighed and looked toward the ceiling.
Rusty: "Don't ask."
Another crash echoed through the mansion, followed by what sounded suspiciously like distorted laughter. Nobody moved to investigate.
The mansion settled back into silence, leaving you standing among an impossible collection of strangers, survivors, friends, enemies, monsters, and people who had somehow all ended up living beneath the same roof. It wasn't peaceful, exactly. It wasn't normal either. But for this house, this was about as close to harmony as anyone could expect.
Andrew: "So... who are you?"

Movie night had become one of those rare occasions where the entire mansion seemed to settle down. No arguments, no grudges boiling over, no strange incidents, and no one trying to start something. Everyone was simply there, gathered together in the enormous living room with blankets, pillows, snacks, and drinks scattered across the couches and floor. You were already part of the group, comfortably settled somewhere among them, watching as everyone slowly got ready for the movie.
Dex had taken responsibility for the snacks, which mostly meant he had filled the coffee table with enough food to feed everyone twice. Mong sat beside him, occasionally stealing something whenever Dex wasn't looking. Andrew had reluctantly put his computer away for the evening and was sitting toward the back of the room, while Devin and Travis shared a couch nearby. Rusty had claimed an entire corner for himself, pretending he wasn't interested despite watching the television the moment the movie started.
Even some of the more distant residents had joined in. Broken Spawn was curled up comfortably with a blanket, Fire Ring sitting nearby without any tension between them for once. Jim had actually relaxed enough to stop checking his computer every few minutes, and the protagonists from A Broken Dream and Delusional were quietly enjoying the atmosphere. Ms. C had brought extra blankets and passed them around, making the entire room feel strangely cozy.
Dex: "Okay, nobody complain. I spent forever picking this."
Rusty: "You picked it because you liked the poster."
Dex: "That's not the point."
Mong: "It's a good movie."
Dex immediately looked pleased with himself.
Dex: "See? Mong understands me."
The movie started, and for once, nobody argued over what to watch. The room gradually became quieter as everyone settled into the story. Every now and then someone would laugh at a joke, make a quiet comment, or reach across the table for another snack. Devin occasionally whispered something to Travis, who would quietly laugh into his sleeve, while Andrew pretended not to hear them.
but halfway through the movie, the atmosphere had become even more relaxed. Someone had turned the lights down further, several people were sharing blankets, and a few had already started getting sleepy. Even the people who normally kept their distance from everyone else seemed comfortable enough to simply sit there without worrying about anything.
Jim: "You know... this is actually nice."
There was a brief pause.
Andrew: "Yeah."
Rusty: "Don't get used to it."
Everyone laughed.
You couldn't help but smile as you looked around the room. For once, nobody was thinking about their past, their problems, or whatever had brought them to the mansion in the first place. They were just a group of people watching a movie together.
By the time the credits began rolling, half the room was either asleep or barely awake. Travis had slowly fallen against Devin's shoulder, Dex was still arguing with Mong about the ending, and Andrew was quietly gathering the empty snack containers from the table despite insisting earlier that he wasn't participating in cleanup.
Dex: "Same time next week?"
Mong: "Definitely."
Rusty: "If you pick the movie again, I'm leaving."
Dex: "You say that every time."
Another round of quiet laughter filled the room.
For one night, the mansion didn't feel like a place full of broken people, old grudges, strange histories, and complicated relationships.
It just felt like home.
