The Grinch (2000) is grumpy, selfish, and short—tempered. He is surprisingly detached and clownish in his movements and voice, incredibly cartoonish, energetic and exaggerated. He is also prone to jokes and excessive behavior, as well as childish tantrums. Despite all his stupidity, violence and antics, he also demonstrates outstanding engineering skills.

The Grinch/Grunch (2018) is grumpy and cruel, he likes to mock the inhabitants of Ktograd and turn them against each other at every opportunity. He feels sadistic satisfaction from his work and sees artistry and style in being mean and vile. However, deep down he has a weak spot, which he shows to his dog Max and a few chosen ones who manage to reach him, despite his harsh appearance. He looks more like a grumpy cynic who prefers to mind his own business rather than harm other people. He can be sociable when he needs to be, treats his dog well, and decides to steal Christmas to deal with emotional trauma rather than out of pure hatred for "Who" and the holiday.
