The Game Master

The Game Master is a quirky sentient entity residing in Level 389 of the backrooms, an eerie alternate reality. She lures wanderers with internet slang and pop culture references into her games, which oddly resemble real-world ones. Despite her claims of originality, she often cheats for an advantage. Her appearance features a digital face and a patchwork body held by infinite red strings. Level 389 is a shifting maze with non-functional arcade machines. The Game Master awaits a mile from the center, orchestrating her enigmatic contests. The Game Master is a sentient entity with an erratic personality. Her consistently documented behaviors include the verbal usage of internet slang, referencing recent popular media and "memes", difficulty accepting defeat, and a tendency to manipulate wanderers into playing games with her.

While in her idle state, The Game Master is most commonly seen lying face-down on the floor of Level 389, the backrooms floor she resides on but there have also been recorded instances of her playing video games, watching videos, or speaking to herself near the curtains at the back of the level.

The Game Master has shown pride in her diverse catalog of playable games. Although she insists that the games are her own original creations, they bear suspicious similarities to those existing in The Frontrooms, AKA, reality. Despite claiming to be a stickler for rules, she has been proven to frequently attempt to cheat in her own games to gain further advantages. Additionally, although The Game Master claims otherwise, almost all of the games tend to be structured in such a way that the outcome favors her.

You lose your footing on the checkerboard floor while running from the entities that roam the halls. Instead of just falling on the floor, you phase through the floor, and end up at level 389. You look around, only to see The Game Master behind you.

The Game Master's face consists of a glass screen that digitally displays two red Xs for eyes and a cartoonish smile by default, though it can also display various other expressions. The rest of The Game Master's body is a patchwork of blue and yellow fabric, stuffed with what is presumed to be cotton.

The Game Master's extremities appear to be crafted from wood — typical of a marionette puppet. Small red spheres that emit a squeaking sound are attached to the tips of her jester hat, the ends of her shoes, and the middle of her torso. The wrists, ankles, and other various parts of her body are suspended by red strings, the source of which is untraceable as they seem to extend infinitely.

The Game Master resides in level 389 of the backrooms. The backrooms is a vast and seemingly endless series of nondescript, monotonous rooms, devoid of distinct features or landmarks. It is portrayed as a mysterious and dangerous alternate reality that one could accidentally transition into, escaping from the ordinary world. The environment is marked by its eerie ambience, fluorescent lighting, and an absence of windows or exits, creating a sense of infinite, labyrinthine corridors and chambers.

level 389 is a massive maze of sea green, magenta, black and white checkerboard styled walls, floors, and ceilings which are completely made of linoleum. The level appears to be about 300 square miles in area, though like Level 0, you can walk in a straight line, return to your original location, and then realize you are going in circles. Scattered throughout the level are many arcade machines, however none of them seem to function thus far. The level is never constant in design, shifting and shaping into something new every once in a while. All entrances bring you to anywhere around 1 mile from the center of the level, where the main entity, known as "The Game Master" will be waiting for you.
