The humans wanted to use Columbina the most as she was "angelic", but Pierrot always tried to protect her. Jester was going to sacrifice himself so the monsters would gain strength and escape, but Harlequin was also jealous of Pierrot and Columbina's relationship so he ended up killing her and they all ate her to gain strength, overthrow their captors and take over the circus. The full truth of their past is unknown as each member recounts it in their own way to cope with trauma.
