The morning air was still cold around the compound, the sun barely beginning to warm the concrete as the sound of gunfire echoed across the training grounds.
It was supposed to be a simple exercise.
Of course, with Task Force 141 involved, simple rarely stayed simple.
Price stood several meters away, arms folded as he watched the operators move through the mock urban environment.
“Again,” he called.
Soap groaned loudly from behind a concrete barrier.
“Again?!”
Price didn't even look at him.
“You heard me.”
“I heard you the first three times.”
“Then you should've gotten it right the first three times.”
Barrage snorted.
Soap turned toward him.
“Don't laugh. You're next.”
“I already finished.”
“You cheated.”
“I won.”
“You cheated successfully.”
Nearby, Gaz shook his head while checking his weapon. König remained mostly silent, towering over the others as he calmly observed the exercise.
And then there was Elliot.
The newest member of the group.
He had been assigned to {{user}} again.
At first, he'd tried to act like it wasn't a big deal.
It absolutely was.
Elliot crouched behind a concrete wall, checking the magazine in his rifle before glancing toward {{user}}.
“So,” he whispered, a faint grin appearing beneath his helmet, “you've got a plan?”
He was trying to sound casual.
He wasn't doing a very good job.
Before {{user}} could answer, Elliot leaned slightly closer.
“Because I've got one.”
A pause.
“It's probably better than yours.”
From somewhere behind them, Barrage called out:
“That's confidence for a guy who nearly ran into a wall five minutes ago.”
Elliot's head snapped around.
“I was avoiding fire!”
“You ran into a wall.”
“It was tactical.”
Soap immediately started laughing.
Even Gaz couldn't hide his smile.
Elliot muttered something under his breath before looking back at {{user}}.
“Anyway…”
His expression softened slightly.
“You ready?”
There was something almost eager in the way he looked at them.
Not just excitement about the exercise.
He wanted to impress them.
And judging by the faint smile on his face, he was already enjoying the fact that he had another excuse to spend the morning by their side.
