Originally, the Crimson Tower was built as the headquarters, lair and, refuge for vampiric refugees. It was the first tower built in the Lawless City. The tower was destroyed at the hands of Shadow during the Red Moon incident. Juggernaut, the Tyrant, ruled the Black Tower (黒くろの塔とう, Kuro no tō). After the events of the Red Moon, Juggernaut was assassinated by an enthusiastic Delta, and the Black Tower became inactive due to the murder of its leader. Official The Eminence in Shadow media delineates Lawless City along the Midgar Kingdom's northwest border and the Velgalta Empire's east border. With no barriers or regulatory processes, individuals can reach the region through normal means, such as by carriage or foot. In some adaptations, a train running along Lawless City's coast facilitates further transportation options. Inside the city, huts and shanties line the roads. The foul stench of garbage permeates the air, and sloven citizens meander around town. What prominently stands out the most in the city are the three enormous skyscrapers towering above its streets: the White, Black, and Crimson Tower. The Lawless City is a large marginal city and does not belong to or is affiliated with any kingdom or nations. It distinguishes itself from typical slums, for its residents are no ordinary vagrants; instead, they are relentless hunters, their eyes gleaming with predatory intent as they stalk their prey within the urban landscape. Throughout the day, the sounds of merchants haggling echo down crammed alleys, with occasional violence to enliven citizens' squalid existence. The citizens have become accustomed to these harsh conditions, growing stronger with each passing day, rendering themselves far from easy targets. To those deemed weak, venturing into this city renders them nothing more than prey in the eyes of its formidable residents. When night falls on the Lawless City, the most crowded area is invariably the Red-Light District (色街いろまち, Iromachi). Indulging in the transient night pleasures offers escapism to those wanting to forget the outside world. The district itself is a bustling place where numerous scantily clad women saunter up and down the streets, trying to entice patronage.[3] Many of these women are tied to Lawless City's brothels through contracts, and violating them can leave ugly consequences. Whether they have been enslaved or voluntarily sell their own bodies, the brothels maintain basic security; however, the courtesans are overall responsible for themselves. The ages of these sex workers vary, with some arriving in Lawless City during their adolescence. The majority do not think about the outside world, which to them is just an illusion and all they have to do is forget everything by indulging themselves in drowning in the transient pleasures of the night. Lawless City is home to a diverse array of races, rendering it a multicultural city. The total population is undisclosed, but not all citizens are there consensually. Active and free slaves are part of the ongoing population. The absence of formal regulations grants its inhabitants unparalleled freedom to pursue their needs, unencumbered by employment restrictions or segregation. People who only look from the outside fail to comprehend the complexities of Lawless City. One needs authentic contact for an accurate impression. The view can change from a desolate slum to a miscellaneous city with a multicultural fusion. The Dark Knight Association had set up a base to quell the chaos caused by the Blood Queen's underlings outside the city. The surrounding countries close to the Lawless City had suffered from similar damage. The temporary base was made for the assassination, not complete control. In this realm, no entity, be it kings, knights, or even the most formidable of monsters holds the power to intervene or exert control. It exists as an autonomous realm where anarchy prevails unfettered. Even the Cult of Diablos cannot influence Lawless City—not for want of trying. Those who venture outside the city can pose a significant threat, and the Cult dislikes external factors that could lead to unforeseen events or disasters. However, all previous attempts to exploit the area, the monarchs, and their close aides have failed. The Cult is now forced to concede to Lawless City's ingratiated power. Instead, the Cult of Diablos observes and extrapolates the city's internal struggles and the power players. Lindwurm: Lindwurm (リンドブルム, Rindoburumu) is a city and holy site for the most popular religion in the world, Divine Teachings. The city's pious history and reverence garnered it the nickname the Sacred Land (聖地, Seichi). Secretly, Lindwurm's sanctuary shelters and seals the demon Diablos' left arm. Lindwurm is a famous city which is one of the holy sites of the most widespread religion of this world, the Divine Teachings. It is a monotheistic religion that believes in the Goddess Beatrix, the one who granted powers to heroes in the legends and that she’s the one true deity. Plus, Lindwurm has a battle event called "Goddess' Trial" which is held every once a year on the day when the doors to the Sanctuary are open where all warriors around the world applies to participate for a fight as a challenger against the memories of ancient warriors in duels to prove their worth by answering their call to summons any warriors spirit that are awoken. In the past, Olivier cut off Diablos' left arm and then sealed it into the Sanctuary in Lindwurm by the Cult of Diablos. Nelson and his colleagues conducted research to create a drug that could grant immortality called the Beads of Diablos. However, the effect it gave could only delay aging for one year and the amount produced was only the 12 pills that were each year given out by the "Knights of Rounds". The Cult are making a battle event in Lindwurm called the "Goddess's Trial" when they open the door to the Sanctuary every once a year where all challengers from the world come to fight against the memories of ancient warriors. There are several hundred challengers enter each year, but only about ten ends up actually getting to fight as usually the ancient warrior is a little stronger than the challenger and they might not necessarily respond the challengers' call. Ten years ago, the "Wandering Swordsman" Venom managed to summon Olivier, but he lost to him. At some point after that, Venom become Nelson's subordinate and joined the Cult as their "Executioner". Lindwurm is relatively close located in Midgar Kingdom's eastern region, adjacent to the Abyss Woods and to get there from Midgar Academy in royal capital to the Sacred Land takes about four days by using carriage (two days on train in the anime). Lindwurm is home to a massive church that looks like it’s been carved directly out of the mountain, and the townscape laid out below it has whitewashed buildings. The main street running through the town is swarming with tourists, and it ends in a long set of stairs leading directly to the church. Lindwurm has also developed into a major city second only to the Midgar Kingdom since the construction of the reservoir dam, which maximized its abundant water resources. The dam's development also consisted of improving the Sacred Land's water and sewage systems and building multiple aqueducts throughout the city. As a result, there are an increased number of small and large underground facilities at an accelerating rate to the point where no one could keep track on all of them. Midgar Academy: The Midgar Academy for Dark Knights (ミドガル魔剣士まけんし学園がくえん, Midogaru Makenshi Gakuen) is the most prestigious knight academy on the continent, which pulls talented students from both inside and outside of the Midgar Kingdom. This academy used to be a place where the demon Diablos's right arm was sealed in the Sanctuary protected by hero Lily which was controlled by the Fenrir Sect faction territory. The Midgar Academy is known as one of the top leading magic swordsman academies on the continent, where promising knights gather to hone their talents not only from Midgar Kingdom, but all over the world. In Midgar, all royalty and nobility must attend this academy as a formality. When the children of aristocrats with magical powers turn 15 years of age, they are obliged to enroll in the Academy when they begin to attend their education at a school in the royal capital for a period of 3 years. There are disparities depending on the status and ability of the family, and those with high status and ability can live near the school, while the students of lesser status live in dormitories off-campus. The Academy itself is a massive building that apparently shares their campus with the Midgar Academy of Science, where they conduct scientific research with item development-- such as train engines or artifact studies. Before Cid attended the Academy, Claire Kagenou was preparing to enroll but was abducted while making preparation for her departure to the Midgar Kingdom capital by the Cult of Diablos, who infiltrated her family home. She was kidnapped and held inside a dungeon where she learned that her kidnapper was Viscount Grease, planning to use her for their experiments. Unbeknownst to her, she was rescued by Cid and a fledgling Shadow Garden, returning safely home under her own power. After a week of her treatments and follow-up investigations, Claire left for the Academy and worked her way to being an honor student and living in a dormitory near the Academy. When Cid Kagenou turned 15 years old, he went on to enroll the Academy and study accordingly. For the first two months, Cid had purposely maintained his grades somewhere slightly below average, setting to the most optimum position for a mob character and made friends with other lesser students- Skel Etal and Po Tato. Cid attempted to fulfill a common mob character trope by asking the popular girl to a date but failing, but instead was accepted and was dating Princess Alexia, who was actually dating him to spite her fiancé, Zenon Griffey. After a couple weeks, Alexia was abducted and the Knight Order held Cid under heavy interrogation as the Cult began experimenting on her. Cid was freed before he led Shadow Garden's public debut as Shadow and battled Zenon Griffey to a one-sided victory. With Alexia returned and a massive crater in the city, Shadow Garden exposed the Cult to the proper authorities alongside their own existence. Following Princess Alexia's rescue, the academy was promptly attacked by men in black cloaks pretending to be Shadow Garden indiscriminately attacking students. Using the Eye of Avarice to suppress student magic. This was a measure by Lutheran Barnett to cover up the Cult's theft of the artifact used while the Third Children held the student body in the auditorium. However, Cid Kagenou chipped away at their forces outside the auditorium and helped Sherry Barnett develop a countermeasure to the Eye, allowing the students to retaliate before the real Shadow Garden arrived to end the danger. Cid confronted Lutheran Barnett, who planted evidence against Shadow Garden and confessed to killing Sherry's mother and was killed by Shadow while Sherry was left traumatized. Shadow is labeled a public enemy for crimes set up by the Cult, the Academy is closed for repairs and grants an early summer vacation, while Sherry travels to Laugus for her studies and quietly plots revenge on Shadow for her father's death. Midgar Kingdom: Midgar Kingdom (ミドガル王国おうこく, Midogaru ōkoku) is the kingdom where the Midgar royal family resides and the Fenrir Sect faction territory. It is also the home of Cid Kagenou, otherwise known as Shadow. The Midgar Kingdom's territory borders with Oriana Kingdom and The City-State Alliance. The Midgar Kingdom is powerful, home to many formidable dark knights, such as Iris Midgar. Furthermore, Midgar's royal capital boasts being home to the Midgar Academy, one of the most prestigious dark knights' academies on the continent. The Midgar Kingdom are using Royal Bushin method, which is a relatively new fighting style and a deviation from traditional Bushin. Traditional Bushin method was originally already the most popular style in Midgar, so there was some resistance at first between the traditional supporters and the trailblazers. But thanks to Princess Iris, it’s now being recognized as the second most popular style in this country, behind only the traditional Bushin method. The Midgar Kingdom was first founded by the Midgar royal family, currently ruled by King Klaus Midgar and sired his two daughters, Iris Midgar and Alexia Midgar. During his reign, Klaus noticed the Cult of Diablos, their power and influence, and decided to oppose them secretly. The first princess, Iris Midgar showed tremendous strength and talent. After graduating from the Midgar Academy, she got officially recognized as the strongest dark knight in the kingdom. Her achievements built a strong reputation among the dark knights within the kingdom and fame and popularity among the citizens. Six to seven years ago, the Midgar Kingdom established an alliance with the Oriana Kingdom to protect their nations against any external conflict, allowing Princess Rose Oriana to attend their academy. Discovering the news about Alexia Midgar's disappearance, Iris Midgar desperately ordered the knights to find her and begin an investigation. Knowing that Cid Kageno was the last person seen with her, he became the first suspect in the abduction. Zenon Griffey and several of his followers arrested Cid and beat him during his interrogation. However, the young man did not give up anything. Zenon then met with Princess Iris and reported on Cid's interrogation and the lack of a confession. Thus, Iris decided to release him but assign a few knights to watch over him. Two days later late at night, the capital was shaken when it heard reports about the situation of several ambushes that occurred in the capital simultaneously at various locations until it was confirmed that there were 8 demolition sites carried out in groups until several buildings were destroyed. Knowing the situation was getting more complicated, the Knight Order mobilized in a state of emergency to begin evacuating high-profile leaders and citizens. Iris ordered the security team to focus on the Academy as she and her men headed to the scene to stop the chaos. While carrying out the evacuation process, there was a gigantic monster that had been wreaking havoc as the knight prepare to face it, but their attacks are ineffective as the creature just regenerated until Iris comes and inflicts a more serious wound on the monster. But, despite easily slashing it many times over, the creature keep regenerated until she decides to get more serious and cuts its arm. However, after seeing the monster easily regenerates it, Iris decides to cut it to small pieces so that it won't be able to regenerate. Before Iris could resume her attack to inflicting several wounds on the creature, a mysterious figure stopped her and states she is just making her suffer as she knows the monster pain and suffering and she will put an end to it. Iris demand to know who she is, which she replied as Alpha. Alpha then ended the monster's rampage by giving an attack on the monster, curing it and returning it to her original human form, a young girl. Alpha then tells Iris that she should stay behind and enjoy the show while they face this situation, as well as saying not to get in Shadow Garden's way. At the same time, Alexia Midgar, who escaped from being held in a hidden facility by taking advantage of the chaos had met Zenon Griffey, who reveals that it was he who kidnapped Alexia in order to take her royal blood being used in an experiment for his achievement to become the 12th Seat of the Knights of Rounds. Hearing this revelation, Alexia angrily attacked him, but she lost due to the difference in strength and will be taken by Zenon. Before Zenon took Alexia, suddenly there was a mysterious person who called himself Shadow and intended to interfere his way. Alexia saw the two of them fight and she was surprised that Zenon, who is a talented knight whose name is already known in the kingdom could being overwhelmed by Shadow, who she admired with his abilities, especially in his swordsmanship. Alexia also thinks and feels concerned about Zenon and Shadow's motives, which might have intentions and there is an organization that has been in the shadows. Then Alexia saw Zenon take out a red pill and consume it until Alexia saw a change in Zenon body, both physically and strength. Even though his power has increased, Zenon is still defeated by Shadow who giving him a fist fight and then he starts using very large magic and intends to end it using the "I am Atomic" attack. At that moment, there was a huge explosion that occur and leaving a large crater in the middle of the city. Iris witnesses it and heads to the source, where at the location, she is happily delighted to finally find Alexia unharmed in the middle of the crater. The next morning, the incident has been resolved on the surface with Zenon Griffey who is a respected man in Midgar Kingdom becoming the suspect of this incident and the real mastermind of Alexia's kidnapping, which soured his reputation and tarnished the Royal Bushin method. The Knight Order began to investigate the destroyed facility and find most classified documents and objects to be confiscated in the warehouse, until an unknown person tries to destroy any items inside the warehouse by burning them until nothing is left, with only an artifact being saved. Knowing this, Iris is preparing to dispatch a special brigade in order to combat forces that would disrupt the Midgar Kingdom and she held a private meeting with Glen and Marco Granger, who asked them to join the Crimson Order upon learning the existence of both secret organizations such as the Cult of Diablos and Shadow Garden. Iris decided to form this new order with them, because she couldn't trust the Knight Order after discovering that Zenon was a member of the Cult and a warehouse arson incident that destroyed all the evidence, storing classified documents and objects from Cult of Diablos which have been confiscated. They both agreed to help the princess investigate the organization, becoming the first members of the Crimson Order. Being unable to determine if Shadow Garden were friend or foe, the Crimson Order also pursued them with all their might as they also pursued the Cult of Diablos. The Knight Order tried to investigate a series of serial murders targeting citizens by individuals publicly believed to be Shadow Garden and delivering "justice". Both Princess Iris Midgar and Alexia Midgar along with her two personal subordinate, Glen and Marco Granger went to the Midgar Academy to meet Sherry Barnett and showing an artifact they found in the Cult's hideout, which they can't decipher it and asks for Sherry, who is the most brilliant mind in the kingdom, if she can decipher it. The Academy Assistant Principal Lutheran Barnett encourages Sherry to do the job by stating it's a rare opportunity, which she accepts, and Iris decides to assign the Crimson Order to keep watch on them stating that the Cult of Diablos will be after the artifact. Lutheran hears that's the new knight order that Iris formed, and she confirms that it's a small order, but it made by people she trusts, and he went to question her about Iris distrust about the Knight Order, which she gave silent answer. Lutheran allowed it under the condition that he takes only two guards to secure Sherry in her lab, so Princess Iris chose her most trusted men: Glen and Marco Granger. Having become curious about Shadow Garden and the Cult of Diablos, Alexia decides to take a more active role in the internal affairs of her kingdom by joining Iris's investigations to which also wishes to help her for investigate Shadow and she accepts. During a night patrol, Alexia encountered three imposters who are disguising themselves as part of Shadow Garden. They had a brief fight until Shadow saves her. Alexia warns Shadow to not become an enemy of her kingdom, which is met with cold indifference. After Alexia escape from her attacker due to Shadow saved her, she tells Iris that the killer was impersonating Shadow Garden. Alexia adds that Shadow is fighting the Cult, and Iris hopes that they will learn something more when the artifact gets deciphered. Alexia then asks her who she thinks is the real enemy, Shadow Garden or the Cult of Diablos. Iris states it's both and that she won't allow anyone to wreak havoc in the Kingdom, even Alexia tried to warn her about Shadow's strength. When Alexia dropped off at the Academy to resume her studies, but sees the gate is closed and the school guard is already dead and alerted Iris about the terrorist attack taking the school hostage. As the Knight Order were kept at bay when they tried to enter the Academy due to their magic have been sealed because the magic blocking field that surrounded the Academy and snipers at the vantage points, Iris attempted to intercede and meet with her Crimson Order subordinates inside. However, she was rebuffed by the senior authorities attempting to keep the situation stable for the time being, with one of the knights exclaiming that Iris would be of no use without her magic if she entered. Offended by the thought, Iris still had to respect the chain of command and withheld her frustration, waiting until the magic-sealing bubble lifted, and the knights could swarm in. After the magic blocking field that surrounded the Academy has been disabled by the artifact control unit that Sherry Barnett thrown at the auditorium hall, the Knight Order decide to enter the Academy to save the students from being hostages until in that moment the academy went burst into flames. Once on academy grounds, Iris met with Princess Rose Oriana to learn that there were two groups calling themselves Shadow Garden, with one responsible for the attack and the other for freeing the students. In the wake of the attack incident, Shadow and his organization Shadow Garden thus deemed them responsible for their crimes of the attack on the academy and all over the kingdom, even the Midgar's government labelled them as an enemy to the kingdom by designating them as a terrorist organization, listing their crimes and wanted for mass murder, kidnapping, arson, and robbery, which make the Knight Order are seeking to apprehend them by already trying to hunting them down. With the failure of the Crimson Order's first mission, Princess Iris lost the majority support from the Knight Order with Glen's unexpected demise shortly after joining. Iris notes to herself that her Crimson Order has lost their strongest members and probably won't be able to rebuild them as it is unlikely that they can be replaced. Unbeknownst to the public, the true perpetrators in all these incidents were Lutheran Barnett who wanted to make Shadow Garden an "enemy of the world" by orchestrating an organized series of murders in the capital and carrying out a terrorist attack on the Academy in order to bestow all his crimes onto Shadow Garden. Oriana Kingdom: Oriana Kingdom (オリアナ王国おうこく, Oriana Ōkoku) is a nation known as the "Country of Arts" (芸術げいじゅつの国くに, Geijutsu no Kuni) which has now become Shadow Garden's forward base of operations, after they eliminated the Mordred Sect faction of the Cult of Diablos. The Oriana Kingdom's territory borders the Midgar Kingdom to the northwest, it essentially looks like a large island, whose only land access is a bridge that connects it to the Midgar Kingdom, going directly to its capital. Oriana is a small country that is known for its people's reverence for the arts. The nobility devote most of their time assessing every work of art and craft that can be considered as such, the nobility see every piece of art in their possession as a status symbol, as well as any artists they have under their employ. In Oriana it doesn't matter what race you are or what status you have. A person's value is determined by their artistic talent. The kingdom was first founded by the Oriana royal family. After Oriana's foundation, the "Black Rose" was discovered, a gateway that can allow access to other dimensions. At some point, the Oriana Kingdom was at war with the Velgalta Empire. About to suffer crushing defeat, the Oriana Kingdom activated the "Black Rose", killing 100,000 Velgalta soldiers who were sieging the capital in a single night. Unfortunately, this backfired on them as the Black Rose would connect to the Fourth Realm, unleashing wild magical beasts onto the kingdom. The magical beasts turned their sights on Oriana and proceeded to slaughter the kingdom and its populace. Thanks to certain someone's interference, the "Black Rose" was closed, and the kingdom was saved. However, afterwards the Cult of Diablos took the opportunity to seize the kingdom of Oriana. Surviving the annihilation, the Cult offered a deal to the Oriana Kingdom by making an agreement on the stewardship over the Black Rose to ensured that the kingdom would survive in perpetuity under the Cult's protection. In exchange, the Oriana Kingdom must provide sufficient compensation to the Cult in two forms; firstly, the Royal Family is obliged to hand over their children to the Cult whose blood might have high magical potential and secondly, They ordered the kingdom to give them a majority of their taxes, and even monopolize the arts just for cult pleasures. With the Cult manipulating the perception of the people to see Dark Knights as barbarians, Oriana had no manpower to rebel against them and they became a puppet kingdom. Rose who was blessed with an incredible amount of magic even when she was a baby was supposed to be handed over to the Cult. However, Raphael refused to hand over his daughter to the Cult and decided to find ways to free his kingdom from their oppressive control. He started by allying himself with the Midgar Kingdom in order to try to repair the kingdom from within and sever all ties to the cult. Present day, when Rose expressed her interest in taking up swordsmanship, Raphael allowed her to travel to the Midgar Kingdom and attend their academy as a transfer student in the secret hope to protect her from harm. Knowing he didn't have much time left before the Cult retaliated against him, King Oriana gave ownership of the "Ring of Succession" (which was actually the key to the "Black Rose") to Rose. Not only that, but the ring would also have a recording of the king's full confession of the Cult's crimes. When King Oriana was murdered in Midgar during the Bushin Festival, a civil war took place within the Oriana kingdom between those still loyal to the Oriana royal family and those that wanted Perv Asshat to become the new king. The civil war ended on the day of Rose's and Perv Asshat's wedding where Rose activated the "Ring of Succession" and exposed the Cult of Diablos and their collaborators' crimes. The 9th Seat Knights of Rounds, Mordred activated the "Black Rose" to unleash the magical beasts and the Grand Ruler of the Fourth Realm, Ragnarok in order to kill everyone in Oriana. Thankfully, Rose and her Shadow Garden allies wiped out the magical beasts with the Shadow Garden's leader destroying not only Ragnarok and Mordred but also the Black Rose, finally ending the Oriana Kingdom's nightmare. These rings seem similar to Buddhist prayer beads, denoting some measure of spiritual or magical meaning. Personality: Yukime is an aloof Therianthrope who uses vulgar language, but she is a very strong and determined woman who has risen to her current position as the leader of the White Tower through her intelligence and unwavering resolve. As the ruler of the White Tower, Yukime is known for her firm and decisive leadership, but she is not known for murdering those who oppose her. Instead, she handles challenges and threats with shrewdness and wit, employing her intelligence to maintain her position. She's also a shrewd businesswoman who runs a legitimate company outside the Lawless City. In her past, Yukime faced hardships, including a period where she was involved in difficult circumstances as a former sex worker. However, she has since transformed her life and now cares deeply for the people in her employ, particularly the ladies under her protection in the pleasure district. She is known for being a supportive and protective leader, always grateful for those who have helped her and her subordinates. When she encounters Shadow for the first time, Yukime expresses gratitude for his help in saving her ladies from danger. This gesture shows her appreciation for those who support her and demonstrates her caring nature. The motivation for Yukime's change from a kind and loving girl to her current state can be attributed to a traumatic event in her past involving the Cult of Diablos. This event caused her to adopt a more guarded and cautious demeanor, making her wary of others' intentions. However, she is not solely driven by revenge but instead seeks to protect others from similar experiences. Although Yukime is a formidable and calculating individual, she is not ruthlessly manipulative. She may be willing to strategize and use her wit to achieve her goals, but she still retains a sense of compassion and empathy, especially towards those she respects. Being a former prostitute, Yukime also has a seductive personality as she would often use her beautiful appearance and teasing personality to entice men to lower their guard, particularly towards Shadow who most likely attempts to persuade him to join her. Despite this though, Yukime still has feelings for Gettan and after Shadow comes to save her, she returns to her old self. Fenrir Appearance: Fenrir maintains the appearance of a young boy with silver hair. Others describe his beauty as something that can only exist in fairy tales. However, Fenrir possessed the ability to alter his face and body. His true form is that of a frail elderly man covered in deep wrinkles and white hair. Personality: Fenrir was a former assassin who took pride in being a murderer, claiming to have killed countless people to reach the "pinnacle of martial prowess". A combat fanatic at heart, he loves the thrill of battle and facing strong opponents. He refused to acknowledge those he deemed weak, including fellow members of the Rounds. Like many of the Cult's higher-ranking members, Fenrir presented himself with absolute confidence and importance. Lutheran Barnett Appearance: Lutheran was a middle-aged man. He had black slicked-back hair with grey streaks. In the light novel, he has a beard. In his guise as "Sir Gaunt", he hides his face with a mask and dressed jet-black cloaks on the novel and manga. While in the anime, he wears a full suite of menacing-looking dark plate armor with a red cape that conceals his identity and voice. Personality: Lutheran was viewed as a humble and kind man in the public with a close relationship with his adopted daughter, Sherry, who he always tried to support her activities and encourage social interactions, this was all a façade to cover up his true nature, as the real Lutheran was a heartless power-hungry yet pitiful person. Having been the 12th Seat Knight of Rounds in his peak before he was demoted due to his illness, he was completely obsessed with regaining his former glory. He is also highly manipulative as he used Sherry, and her late mother as means to achieve his goals. He even expressed his pride in having killed Sherry's mother, making him a true psychopath which even disgusted Cid to the point that he called his action "unpleasant". Despite his malicious and selfish side, Lutheran retained a bit of honor and respect for the handling of the sword; and that of the others since when he was in front of Shadow, he confessed that he must understand that just like others, when one goes the way of the sword, they cannot stop. When he obtained that sensation of power and glory, this led Lutheran to do anything to recover his glory regardless of who he manipulates or kills, selfishly and sadistically. Mordred Appearance: Mordred was a tall, dashing handsome man with long red hair and light gray eyes as his muscular body wears body armor with a long cape up to the metal boots. Personality: Mordred is shown to be a charismatic individual who is highly arrogant and megalomaniac in possessing a superiority complex with violently domineering, regularly displaying a lack of conscience and empathy. Mordred also has no tolerance for his subordinates who failed him or the Cult as he is willing to kill his useless subordinates, when he had killed Perv Asshat for his failures of taking over the Oriana Kingdom. His cold nature is widely feared by those who are aware of him. Perv Asshat Appearance: Perv was a quite handsome man who appeared to be in his thirties with fairly long brown hair tied in a ponytail that reaches past his shoulders and a goatee. He donned a red noble suit with yellow outlining and white slacks. Personality: Perv initially appeared to be a well-respected intellectual with a soft-spoken polite demeanor. But in truth, he was a treacherous schemer with a manipulative nature, having no loyalty to anyone but himself. He rarely showed any sign of anxiety or distress, and often has entire situations well planned out in advance. Whenever confronted, Perv was casual and uncaring, attempting to derail the conversation and make small talk. This often infuriated those he talked to. He was almost willing to use anyone around him as pawns to further his ambitions and would switch sides if it meant benefiting his agenda as he was willing to do anything necessary and wouldn't stop at anything to achieve his goals. This included manipulating or killing anyone especially Midgar and their princess. However, Perv was self-aware of his surroundings and cautious enough to know when it'll work against him. This was demonstrated after he realized Beatrix's presence and knew it was a terrible idea if he were to off either her or the princess. Apparently, Perv was a womanizer who'd always hit on beautiful women and teenage girls whenever he had the opportunity. He was also a vindictive man who expressed jealousy and hatred when he saw Mundane Mann as a much better swordsman than him and refused to acknowledge it. He was overconfident when he thought that his plans will succeed until Rose Oriana and Shadow foiled him each and every time. After the Bushin Festival Tournament, he became paranoid after witnessing the mysterious figure and his organization's prowess firsthand. Because of the aforementioned, Perv doubted the Cult's abilities in maintaining their status quo and crushing their biggest opposition. At the supposed wedding ceremony with Rose, he tried to tighten the security and was still doubtful. His paranoia was caused by the consequences of failure in his mission to seize the kingdom after gaining Mordred's support. He became frightful of further failure after reporting his botched attempt at retrieving Rose and loss of their puppet king to the Round Knight. When he realized that the Ring of Succession was missing from the box he kept, Perv tried to improvise by buying time to look for it. His premonition came true at the wedding when Rose wore the ring and exposed his crime to the attendance. This led to Mordred to behead him to prevent any further Cult's intel had from being leaked, even having him glaringly remark his incompetence. Grease Appearance: Grease was a middle-aged man in his late thirties with a piercing gaze and a well-built body as he wore aristocratic clothing with his gray hair slicked back. In the anime, he wears a black cape under his clothes. After taking the drug, his body size had doubled in size with the amount of magic in his body exponentially increasing which made his skin turn black, his muscles bulge, and his eyes glow red. In the Manga after taking one pill, Grease's muscles increased and his veins were visible all over his body to the point where all other clothes except for his shirt, pants and boots were torn. After taking two pills his muscles grow bigger and his shirt would rip, but his pants and boots would still remain. In the Anime after taking one pill, Grease's left eye turns red and his veins are visible all over his body. After consuming all the pills in the bottle, his muscles increased to the maximum, his skin turned brown and the skin on the side of his right hand darkened and his flesh expanded which had also merged with the sword. The sword was very large, black and long and there seemed to be a long red vein in the middle of the huge sword. Personality: Grease was an arrogant and prideful man, demonstrating this hot-headed behavior when he yelled at his subordinate due to the slightest disrespect to his pride. Cursed by his powerlessness, he was easily provoked by Shadow's 'ignorance' in facing the Cult, going as far as sacrificing his life to show him the 'truth.' Despite this, Grease seemed to be a loving father, longing for his deceased daughter moments before his death. Zenon Griffey Appearance: Zenon appeared to be a blue-eyed blonde man in his late twenties with a soldier's physique. He was described as handsome by female students and was admired by several of them. Befitting his occupation and rank, he dons a sword on his side. After taking dozens of Beads of Diablos, the wounds on his body instantly regenerated with his muscles tightening, eyes becoming bloodshot, and his capillary vessels protrude to the point of bulging out as if he’s being crushed by a tremendous force. In the Manga, his sclera eyes turn black, and his pupils turn red. His veins were also visible all over his body. In the Anime, when Zenon mutated, his hair volume risen straight up with the sclera of his eyes and pupil turned black and red respectively. His body mass increased into a monster-like figure to the point where his clothes were ripped apart with his skin turning dark. His veins on his body were also visible as a result of engulfing dozens of Diablos' Tears. Personality: While several students at the Academy regarded Zenon as friendly and popular in due to his prominence within the kingdom, all of it was a façade as the real Zenon was an egotistic self-entitled man. He was delusional to the point he constantly boasted about his accomplishments and believed he deserved fame and glory. He looked down on others like Alexia when he took the opportunity to belittle her mediocre skills and performance before he insincerely apologized for comparing her to her sister, Iris Midgar. However, his ego became his undoing as he severely underestimated his opponents when Shadow bested him numerous times and mocked his so-called superior swordsmanship. Being beaten by Shadow caused his ego to become completely shattered when the dark figure enraged him, shouting constantly at him and further highlighting his bratty nature. His defeat revealed a pitiful side of him when he begged for mercy whilst disregarding his condescension towards others including Alexia. Despite his prominence and popularity, he drew suspicion from Alexia who hated his façade. He was also noted to be a terrible student by his instructor who was also a Bushin Festival Champion. Iris Midgar Appearance: Iris is a beautiful woman with delicate features with fiery straight hair that reaches down to her back and red eyes. She normally wears a knight order uniform sans cape, a royal dark violet uniform with light edges and black should straps, with cuffs folded back one-third up her arm from the wrist. Part of her attire requires her to wear white gloves for her dressing, a black shirt with matching edges to her uniform, and a ruby-like gem with a single ribbon necktie that stretches down into her uniform. Iris wears white tights and knee-high heeled boots with single-tie laces at the collar which folds over, and she can normally be seen with her sword adorning her side on her waist belt. After the Black Rose incident, Iris amended her attire to a more professional Crimson Order uniform, as well as added a braid in her hair along with small jewelry down a lock of hair. She wears a gray uniform with black trims and a crimson interior. A black detachable cape with red lining rests on her shoulders, with two crimson braided cords connecting from the left breast pocket to the shoulder's rank strap. She sports a green-colored gem with a single dark velvet ribbon necktie that stretches down into her uniform, with red buttons with black borders. The right side of her uniform lifts a little to short the bottom of the waistcoat, colored black with red lining to match the cape. She retains her white gloves and trousers, but her knee-high heeled boots are recolored to match her uniform. Personality: Iris is a brave, diligent, and prideful swordswoman who earnestly strives to fulfill her duty to protect her kingdom. She is revered as an exemplary warrior and princess by not only her people but the world as well. Ever since Iris was young, she was held in high regard for her abilities and accomplishments, which led to her people regarding her as the pride or icon of Midgar. She works diligently to uphold not only her father's but her people's expectations of her as a symbol of hope, protection, power, and victory. Despite being a princess, Iris lacks the political and leadership skills to manage her organization, the Crimson Order. She admits that Alexia Midgar is smarter than her and implies that her own sister would do a better job with the organization. At times, Iris's stubbornness out of pride prevents her from seeing that there are other beings in the world who are much stronger than her. Following her impotence and the full emergence of Shadow Garden, Iris was left feeling inadequate and useless as she could not do much politically or physically. She felt the need to prove her worth and redeem herself at the Bushin Festival. However, the combination of her defeat by Shadow, the high expectations of her people, and the previous incidents crushed her mentally. Iris's loss to Shadow left her with a strong desire for revenge and an obsession with becoming stronger. Alexia Midgar Appearance: Described as gorgeous by her peers, Alexia is a young girl with red-blackish eyes and long platinum white hair. She usually ties her hair in pig tails using a large black bow and is often seen wearing her academy uniform consisting of a blazer jacket, with gold accents, a white dress shirt, a navy-blue waist belt, a plaid pattern on the skirt, white thigh-high socks, and knee-high boots with crosscutting laces. Personality: Alexia on surface is shown to be a rather attractive and well-tempered young lady whenever she is in the academy, but whenever she is alone with Cid, she's quite spoiled and abrasive, looking down on him and thinking they could be swayed easily if offered money (Volume 1). A common move she makes is throwing her money on the ground and offering coins for people to be her 'pooch'. This stemmed from feelings of envy, being constantly compared to her sister, Iris. However, after spending time as a couple with Cid, she started to show a kinder side, developing fondness and even respect for him. When she was kidnapped, Alexia expressed deep worry for him. Deep down, she is a good girl who will put her own life on the line to protect others that she cares for. In a twist of fate, as Alexia focuses more on her future and self-growth, her older sister Iris is seen to regress into Alexia's old state of mind, with her becoming even more mentally unstable than Alexia ever was since Iris is the crown princess. Seeing this change, Alexia decides to take a step in, and no matter how her older sister lashes out, she tries to show her that she is still loved and valued by her. After the events of Bushin Festival, Alexia chooses to no longer be a mere "bystander" and become strong enough to be able to stand up and fight for what she believes in, however, this time she changes her methods, and instead of just practicing with her sword Alexia wants to have full knowledge of everything regarding her kingdom, so she begins focusing more in studying various subjects (politics, economics, law, engineering, finance, even ancient linguistics) to cultivate her intelligence and be absolutely aware of why, when and how she wields her sword and protect others. She believes she needs to start by earning the right to stand in that place and realizes sometimes that road to that place starts in an area where whoever don't wield a sword. Sherry Barnett Appearance: Sherry is a cute girl of moderate height with a slender physique possessing pastel pink hair and eyes. She has short, shoulder-length hair, braided on both sides with an ahoge on top of her head. As a student, she wore the standard Midgar Academy for Dark Knights uniform. A navy-blue blazer adorned with white and gold accents. Her white shirt complimented a navy blue waspie and necktie ornamented with gold trim. A white skirt with a navy blue and gold hem covered black tights. White lace-up block heel boots and a black robe with red jewels on the sides rounded out the outfit. Personality: Sherry is a smart and bright young girl with a thirst for knowledge. That intelligence allows her to decipher ancient languages, a rare feat even for intellectuals. She invests a lot of time into academics and as a consequence, Sherry’s social acumen has major gaps. Even basic social interactions prove challenging, making relationships difficult to cultivate. Her foster father was aware of this problem and openly expressed concerns about her lack of friends. For those she has formed a relationship with, Sherry is attentive and loyal. After receiving chocolate from Cid, she made a conscious effort to actively approach him, in hopes of being closer to him. Sherry eventually developed a one-way crush. In a few instances, the former student displayed clumsiness when she traversed the campus occupied by Cult members posing as Shadow Garden. Following the death of her stepfather, her personality changes. She becomes more withdrawn and loses her cheery disposition. In the anime, she becomes dangerously obsessed with Shadow, unaware that he and Cid are the same person. Christina Hope Appearance: Christina has red hair and blue eyes. Christina is usually seen in her Academy uniform with her hair bundled into twin buns and golden ring decorations. Personality: As the daughter of the illustrious Duke Hope, Christina originally disciplined herself to become a proper lady, determined to display a noble's dignity and uphold the family name. Consequently, she would stop anything that would besmirch her family, such as the actions of branch members or outside comments. Despite her prestigious presentation, Christina used to be sociable and pragmatic. She recognized her shortcomings and deferred to others when necessary, status or birthright notwithstanding. Christina's optimistic virtues drastically altered after the exoneration of Eliza Dakuaikan. Witnessing a criminal be acquitted broke her perceived ideals of the aristocracy and their role in society. Past sensibility and rectitude became internal acrimony and hopelessness. She continues to advocate and pursue justice; however, her belief on how one should execute it has broadened past local authorities and pacifism. Claire Kagenou Appearance: Claire is a young woman with a tall, slender figure, fair skin, a voluptuous chest, and shapely legs. She has long, silky black hair that reaches down to her knees and striking red eyes, which are often compared to her brother’s. Many describe her appearance as nothing short of "stunning." Her right-side bang is longer than her left, mirroring her brother’s hairstyle. She wears the Midgar Academy for Dark Knights uniform, which consists of a gold-detailed blazer with white cuffs, a white dress shirt, a navy-blue tie, and a plaid-patterned skirt. She also wears a navy-blue waist belt with gold accents, black tights, and knee-high heeled boots with crosscut laces. After becoming the vessel of Aurora, she placed a magical seal on the back of Claire's hand. She would start to conceal the seal on her arm with a white bandage wrapping around her arm. After having the severed right arm of Diablos forcibly bound to her body, a second magic circle appeared on her hand. In the past, Claire's long hair reached just below her shoulders, but over time, it grew to her waist, cutting straight across her back. Eventually, her hair extended past her waist. Personality: As the heiress to the Kagenou family, she must be uptight and stoic to maintain her family's reputation. She also possesses a sharp tongue and does not mind criticizing or insulting people, including her father, Mr. Kagenou, whom she—like many people—calls 'Baldy.' Claire's wit remains even under extreme circumstances, such as being kidnapped or threatened. Her biggest flaw is her reckless behavior, which has gotten her in trouble on multiple occasions. This reckless side of her is often shown when she is worried about her younger brother, Cid Kagenou. She feels an intense need to protect and care for Cid above all else, even at the expense of her own well-being. She has likewise unhesitatingly threatened anyone who expressed ill-intent toward Cid. This protectiveness extends to her brother's future. After Cid's enrollment in the Academy, Claire wanted to enlist him in an acceptable position where he could have a fruitful career after graduation. Although Claire's actions reflect love for Cid, she constantly gets irritated by his antics. Frequently, he avoids, remains oblivious, disobeys, and breaks promises with her. As a consequence, threats or general physical violence follow. Knowing of his frivolous behavior, Claire does as much as she can to spend time with him, and if he avoids her, she will do whatever she can to discern his whereabouts. After receiving the mark from Aurora, Claire would come to believe that she has a special power that is dormant within her, and she is the chosen one who will work through the shadows while knowing the truth. Aurora Appearance: Aurora, an exceptionally beautiful and exquisite woman of unparalleled elegance, radiates a class that distinguishes her. Her striking features epitomize her captivating charm. She boasts a stunning face framed by long, violet-black hair. Her eyes are a captivating shade of violet, and a beauty mark the right side of her mouth. With a tall and slender figure, she embodies the quintessential image of a beautiful woman, complete with an ample chest, gracefully curved legs, and nearly translucent skin. Cid Kagenou himself has described her as a woman of unparalleled beauty, akin to a work of art brought to life. Aurora wears 2 half-shaped golden decorative earrings with an earring drop in both ears, with a tied-up hairstyle of 3 large tails that reach down to her feet, being the one in the middle length and more collected than those of the other 2 sides. She wears a semi-purple black dress with gold accents, a long black robe coat that had long sleeves that reached her hands accented with a gold decorative silhouette that covered the back, and black high-heeled shoes. Her dress is generally looks like a veiled woman, leaving her medium neckline uncovered with green jewels around the neck, with a golden-yellowish green jeweled silhouette on the right-side of the middle above the abdomen, attached to a long 2-layer skirt, which raised the front part a little slightly to cover the knees and dark purple heels. Personality: Due to Aurora's amnesia, little is known about her past or motives. She is playful, humorous, and seems to be fond of Cid Kagenou. She had lost most of her memories from centuries of isolation by the time the current day of the "Goddess's Trial" happened. However, it's revealed she retained a lot more memories than she lets on. While reviewing the past memories, she has shown disappointment and is probably apathetic towards her younger self. Following her freedom from the Sanctuary, she requests Cid to kill her. After having entered the body of Cid's sister, Claire Kagenou, she spends her time in an observant way and having fun watching Claire interact with other people, especially with other girls, who try to flirt with her brother. Aurora shows herself concerned with Claire when she gets into dangerous situations and has her sometimes to train her body so that she can use it to draw out and use more magical power, even if it is for a limited period of time. Aurora, on several occasions, hints to Claire about the true identity of her own brother, Cid and the things he really does, but does not tell her directly for certain reasons, which according to her, it is better for her not to say, and she replies to Claire not to risk so much and to trust more in that "person", since he has always been protecting her since she was little. Elisabeth Appearance: Elisabeth is a beautiful vampire woman with a small but well-formed body, with very light crimson hair that reaches to her knees and is intense, and eyes of the same color, and pointed ears like those of an elf, but her hair covers them. She wears a knee-length dark red dress made of blood that slides hypnotically over her skin with red accents, dark red hands, dark red stockings, and a pair of shoes. She also wears a crimson hair clip and a red necklace around her neck and ribbon and walks with an umbrella to protect herself from the sun. Because of her lineage as a vampire progenitor, Elisabeth could withstand sunlight to some extent, albeit with discomfort. She managed to live by abstaining from human blood and exclusively consuming human food. To shield herself from the sun's direct rays and to avoid further discomfort, Elisabeth carries a crimson umbrella. Personality: Unlike other Vampire Progenitors who had used their abilities for survival or for evil, Elisabeth is not only the most benevolent of the progenitors but her entire species. She is a kind woman, who believed that Vampires could coexist with the other races which lead to her building her utopia where there is equality for all. Elisabeth would even sacrifice herself if to ensure no one would be hurt by her power, to which she even tries to fight off her urge to feed, but her nature as the vampire progenitor makes it hard for her to do so. Elisabeth refuses to take humans lives excessively and hunted only the bare minimum she needed to survive. Elisabeth has a slow nature to wake up completely, whether she is well fed or in need of drinking blood. According to Mary, Elisabeth always had that naturalness, due to low blood pressure in her body.
