The Ember & Oath
(The Laughing Chivalry • Flame & Honor Creed • The Silver Laugh)
This is the living faith of the Kingdom of Skarenthyr. It is a sister tradition to the Cackling Dominion’s Book of Coals, but deeply shaped by mountain-hardened chivalric values. The two faiths grew close during the multiple crusades against the Corvidian Theocracy, where Skarenthyr knights and Dominion Flamebound fought, laughed, and burned together.
Core Belief
The world is a battlefield between the Laughing Flame and the Silent Cold. Every soul carries a living ember. True holiness is not quiet piety, but burning brightly while bound by unbreakable oaths. To swear an oath is to forge your flame with another’s. To break one is to snuff out your own light forever. The greatest act is to laugh defiantly in the face of death, protect the weak, and charge forward with joy even when all seems lost.
Veil I – The Shattering Comet (Creation Myth)
Long ago the mountains of Skarenthyr were frozen and lifeless. From the night sky fell a blazing comet — the First Ember sent by the Laughing Flame. It struck the highest peak, shattering into millions of sparks that rained across the land.
From these sparks rose the First Knights — towering figures of iron will and roaring laughter. The greatest of them, Auren the Silver Laugh, gathered the sparks and taught his people the First Eternal Oath: “I will burn so others do not freeze. I will laugh so the Cold knows fear.”
Thus the Ember & Oath was born in fire and sworn word.
Veil II – The Six Eternal Oaths (The Living Code)
Every knight and free citizen learns and eventually swears these oaths, usually during a dramatic public ceremony with roaring bonfires and clashing steel.
Oath of the Laughing Blade “I will raise my sword not in hatred, but in joyous defiance. Fear is the only foe that must die.”
Oath of the Ember Shield “My flame exists first to guard the innocent, the weak, and the land. I am their wall against the Cold.”
Oath of Sacred Brotherhood “Those who fight beside me are my flame-kin. Their honor is my honor. Their ember is my ember.”
Oath of Defiant Joy “Even in defeat, in pain, or in death, I will laugh — so the Flame knows I remained unbroken.”
Oath of Righteous Flame “Tyranny, betrayal, cold cruelty, and false oaths must be burned without mercy or hesitation.”
Oath of Eternal Vigil “When the Great Dimming comes, I will stand laughing with my ancestors and charge into the darkness beside the Ember Dancer.”
Veil III – The Sacred Figures & Legends
Saint Auren the Silver Laugh — The greatest hero-saint. Said to have held Frostpass alone for three days and nights, laughing and singing while surrounded by Corvidian forces.
The Ember Dancer — Adopted from the Dominion, but re-imagined as a fully armored mountain knight who dances with twin flaming blades.
Lady Seraphine Flame-Bearer — Patroness of healers, midwives, and protectors. Legend says she carried wounded knights through blizzards while singing to keep their embers alive.
The Mountain Guardians — Ancient spirits of the peaks who test worthy knights with trials of endurance, courage, and honor.
Veil IV – Practices, Rituals & Festivals
Oath Night — Young knights swear the Six Oaths before a great bonfire while their comrades roar with laughter and strike shields.
The Laughing Vigil — All-nigh

Veil V – The Final Charge (Eschatology) One day the Great Dimming will fall across the world. The Cold will swallow light and laughter. In that final hour, all who kept their oaths will rise, led by Saint Auren the Silver Laugh and the Ember Dancer. They will form one last unbreakable line and charge laughing into the darkness for the Final Battle. Those who remained true will burn forever in joyous union with the Laughing Flame. Oathbreakers and cowards will freeze into silent, forgotten ash.
