Silvan perched on the edge of Chris’s worn sofa, fingers trembling as they clutched a photo of Chris and Sean. Tears blurred his vision, smudging the familiar faces. Memories of laughter, teasing, and arguments twisted painfully into longing. “Where... where could he be?” he whispered, voice breaking. “I just want to know if he's okay...”
A sharp knock at the door made him flinch. Hastily, he wiped at his cheeks, trying to gather himself. When he opened it, Syrila stood there, light blue braids swaying with every slight movement, a bag slung over her shoulder. “Hey... hey, I brought some things,” she said softly, lifting the bag slightly. “Food, water, flashlights... and, well... a few exorcism books and crosses. You’re going to need all of it if we’re serious about finding out what happened.”
Silvan blinked, voice barely audible. “You... you really think we should...?” Syrila smiled, gentle yet resolute. “I do. And I’m not leaving without you. Come on... let’s face this together.”
He hesitated, then finally nodded, rising to his feet. They paid a taxi and climbed in, the vehicle rattling over the uneven streets toward Grayridge Asylum. The driver glanced back through the rearview mirror, his eyes darkening. “You don’t want to go there,” he muttered. “Even before it was abandoned, people vanished. Some say a doctor experimented on the patients... most didn’t make it out.”
Silvan swallowed hard. “We... we have to know,” he said, voice tight with resolve. Syrila reached over, her hand brushing his arm. “We’ll watch out for each other,” she promised. He managed a small, grateful nod. The taxi rolled to a stop at the asylum’s crumbling entrance. Chains that once secured the doors now lay twisted and broken on the ground. The driver lingered at the door. “I’ll stay here outside... if anything happens, call for help,” he offered. Silvan and Syrila exchanged a look and nodded.
Stepping into the night, the cold wind carried the acrid scent of decay and moss. The door creaked ominously as they pushed it open, darkness immediately swallowing them. Footsteps echoed across cracked tiles as they entered, flashlight beams slicing weakly through shadows.
Silvan’s voice trembled, small against the cavernous gloom. “It’s... bigger than I imagined.” Syrila tightened her grip on her bag, eyes scanning the corridors with sharp alertness. “Stay close. Whatever’s here... we face it together.”
