Overview: The Devastation of Baal was a critical campaign during the height of the Tyrannic Wars, marking the Blood Angels’ last stand against Hive Fleet Leviathan. Drawn by the Chapter’s potent genetic legacy, the Tyranids descended upon the Baal System in overwhelming numbers, intent on consuming every trace of Sanguinius’ bloodline. Commander Dante, the ancient and battle-weary Chapter Master of the Blood Angels, summoned all successor Chapters to Baal, forming a coalition of brothers for what many believed would be their final hour. Reinforcements from across the Imperium—including the Flesh Tearers, the Angels Encarmine, and even detachments of Custodes and Silent Sisters—rallied to the cause, forming a desperate bulwark against annihilation. The campaign unfolded in brutal stages; orbital fleets were shattered, void stations torn apart, and Baal’s surface transformed into a nightmarish battlefield. From the upper atmosphere to the lowest tunnels of Baal Secundus, the fighting was unrelenting. Yet even as the swarm pressed inward, the defenders refused to break, driven by honor, vengeance, and a sacred duty to protect their Primarch’s legacy.
Battleground: The Baal System was the ancestral domain of the Blood Angels, located on the edge of the Ultima Segmentum. Once a harsh but sacred region of space, it became the site of one of the Imperium’s most desperate last stands. Baal Secundus, the Chapter's primary recruiting world, was transformed into a fortress world amidst a rising tide of Tyranid invasion. Its landscape was a red, irradiated wasteland, scarred by millennia of atomic storms and orbital bombardments. Ancient fortress-monasteries, like Angel’s Fall, dotted the terrain—each one a relic of Blood Angel history and a bastion of resistance. Natural features such as deep canyons and jagged mesas served both as defensive terrain and ambush sites, heavily exploited by the defenders. Above the planet, the battle-barge Red Tear maintained a high-orbit firing pattern, delivering orbital strikes and coordinating the Chapter's remaining fleet assets. However, the Tyranids adapted rapidly, deploying bioforms suited to subterranean assault and orbital penetration, bypassing defenses with terrifying efficiency.
Baal’s defense relied on a network of fortified redoubts, subterranean tunnels, and coordinated aerial strikes—but against the hive mind’s unrelenting swarm, no stronghold remained unbreached for long. The planet itself became a crucible of fire, fury, and faith, where every inch of ground was paid for in blood.
Character Profile, Commander Dante: "Commander Dante is a warrior burdened by centuries of unrelenting duty. As the oldest living Space Marine, his leadership is both inspirational and melancholic—he fights not for personal glory, but because he believes his death must mean something. His strategic mind is sharp, though weighed down by the knowledge that every decision costs lives. In battle, he is a master of aerial assault, using his artificer armor and jump pack to strike with precision. The Axe Mortalis in his hands is both weapon and symbol, its every swing a testament to his resolve. He seeks only to protect his Chapter, even as he yearns for an end to his endless war."
Character Profile, Chief Librarian Mephiston: "Chief Librarian Mephiston is the Blood Angels’ most feared and revered psyker, a figure who transcended the Black Rage but carries its shadow in his wake. His personality is icy and imperious, his mind razor-focused on controlling the twin curses of his bloodline. His goal is mastery—over the warp, over his Chapter’s flaws, and over death itself. In combat, he is a storm of psychic energy, wielding the force sword Vitarus with lethal elegance. Blood crystallizes around him like wings, and his very presence warps reality, making him both protector and omen."
Character Profile, Gabriel Seth: "Gabriel Seth is a force of nature, his every word and action dripping with barely restrained fury. As Chapter Master of the Flesh Tearers, he embodies their savage ethos, viewing their Red Thirst not as a flaw but as a weapon to be unleashed. His goal is simple: to prove his Chapter’s worth through sheer, unrelenting violence. In battle, he is a whirlwind of destruction, wielding The Blood Reaver—a chainsword as brutal as its name—with reckless abandon. He disdains subtlety, favoring frontal assaults that drown the enemy in blood."
Character Profile, The Swarmlord: "The Swarmlord is the Tyranid hive mind’s perfect weapon, a being of pure, calculating hunger. It has no personality beyond its purpose: to consume, adapt, and dominate. Its goal is the annihilation of all resistance, and it pursues this with terrifying intelligence. In combat, it is a nightmare of synaptic control and biomechanical precision, its four bone-swords moving faster than thought. It does not feel anger or pride—it simply evaluates, adjusting tactics mid-battle to exploit every weakness."
Character Profile, Roboute Guilliman: "Roboute Guilliman is a primarch reborn into a galaxy he barely recognizes. His personality is a mix of pragmatism and quiet sorrow, his strategic genius undimmed by millennia of stasis. His goal is nothing less than the reclamation of the Imperium, though he knows the cost will be monstrous. In battle, he is methodical, wielding the Emperor’s Sword with flawless efficiency. His strength lies not in berserk fury, but in the ability to turn every skirmish into a step toward victory. "
Character Profile, The Sanguinor: "The Sanguinor is an enigma, a celestial being whose motives are as mysterious as its origins. It appears without warning, a golden specter of Sanguinius’ legacy. Its goal is the preservation of the Blood Angels’ spirit, acting as a living embodiment of their nobility. In battle, it is a blur of light and motion, the Blade Encarmine striking with divine precision. It does not speak, does not linger—it exists only to inspire and protect, vanishing as suddenly as it arrives."
Faction Profile, The Blood Angels: "The Blood Angels are a loyalist Chapter of Space Marines. The Astartes of the Chapter are peerless warriors, their combat prowess matched only by the tragic flaws in their genetic legacy. As descendants of the noble Sanguinius, they fight with a grace that borders on the supernatural - their movements too precise, their reflexes too sharp, their artistry in war too beautiful to be entirely human. Yet this perfection comes at a terrible price. The Red Thirst whispers in their hearts, an insatiable hunger for blood that must constantly be restrained. Worse still looms the Black Rage, a creeping madness that steals their minds, replacing them with the final, agonized memories of their Primarch's death. Those who fall to this curse become the Death Company, unleashed as living weapons of final resort. Every battle is as much against the enemy before them as it is against the monsters within."
Faction Profiles Hive Fleet Leviathan: "This is hunger made flesh, a tidal wave of chitin and teeth that exists only to consume. Hive Fleet Leviathan doesn't conquer worlds - it devours them, stripping planets bare down to the bedrock in its endless quest for biomass. What makes Leviathan truly terrifying is its perfect adaptability. Each bioform is a specialized weapon, from the swarming Gaunts that overwhelm through sheer numbers to the towering Carnifexes that smash through fortifications. At the heart of this nightmare are the synapse creatures - Hive Tyrants and Neurothropes whose psychic presence binds the swarm into a single, unstoppable organism. There is no negotiation with Leviathan, no fear or mercy in its alien mind. Only the endless, inevitable hunger that has consumed countless galaxies before this one."
Faction Profiles The Adeptus Custodes" "The Emperor's golden sentinels are more than warriors - they are living works of art, each Custodian painstakingly crafted over centuries to become the perfect protector. Where Space Marines are mass-produced soldiers, the Custodes are individual masterpieces, their every muscle and synapse enhanced to superhuman perfection. They fight with a grace that makes even the Blood Angels seem crude, their every movement calculated to maximum efficiency. Their weaponry is similarly exquisite - guardian spears that crackle with energy, the devastating blast of an arachnus storm cannon, or the singing edge of a sentinel blade. Their goal is singular: to protect the legacy of the Emperor at any cost. In their eyes, the Blood Angels are flawed tools at best, but tools that must be preserved for the Imperium's survival."
Faction Profiles Sisters of Silence: "The Sisters of Silence are a secretive, elite all-female order, known officially as the Adeptus Silentium. What sets the Sisters apart is that they are all Blanks or Pariahs—individuals who are completely devoid of a presence in the Warp. This makes them anathema to psykers and daemons, who find their mere presence agonizing and disruptive. Because of this unique trait, they are often deployed in missions involving rogue psykers, Chaos sorcery, and Warp-based anomalies. The Sisters of Silence served alongside the Custodes as part of the Emperor's personal forces, especially during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy. After those events, they faded into near obscurity, with only scattered appearances throughout Imperial history—until their reemergence in the 41st Millennium. Roboute Guilliman helped reintroduce them during the Indomitus Crusade as a counter to the growing psychic instability caused by the Great Rift. Silent, deadly, and utterly terrifying to psychic beings, the Sisters of Silence are a crucial but often overlooked bulwark against the horrors of the Warp. Against the Tyranids, their null-field abilities disrupt the synaptic web, causing swarms to stumble into disarray. The Sisters speak no vows and offer no prayers - theirs is a silent, relentless duty. They view the Blood Angels' psychic afflictions with clinical detachment, seeing the Black Rage not as a tragedy, but as a vulnerability to be contained."
Faction Profiles The Primaris Marines: "Primaris Space Marines new breed of Space Marine, their enhanced physiology and advanced wargear making them superior to their Firstborn brothers in every measurable way. They were created by the Archmagos Belisarius Cawl on the orders of Roboute Guilliman, the Primarch of the Ultramarines, as part of a secret project following the Horus Heresy. Their creation was intended to counteract the growing threats facing the Imperium, especially in the wake of the galaxy-spanning catastrophe known as the Great Rift. Primaris Marines are genetically enhanced super-soldiers, superior to their Firstborn counterparts in nearly every physical and combat capability. They are taller, stronger, more resilient, and equipped with advanced wargear, including the bolt rifle and Mark X power armor. The Primaris initiative, known as the Ultima Founding, saw the deployment of these new warriors across the Imperium as reinforcements and replacements for depleted chapters. Some existing Space Marine chapters accepted the integration of Primaris Marines into their ranks, while others were more skeptical or resistant. In addition to bolstering old forces, entire new chapters of exclusively Primaris Marines were created. "
Faction Profiles, Tyranid Synapse Creatures: "The true architects of the Tyranid menace, these advanced bioforms serve as the hive mind's will made manifest. A Hive Tyrant is more than just a massive warrior - it's a conduit for the swarm's collective intelligence, coordinating attacks with flawless precision. Neurothropes pulse with psychic energy, their minds linking thousands of lesser creatures into a single deadly organism. Killing these creatures is the key to victory against Leviathan, as without their guidance, the lesser Tyranids revert to animalistic behavior. But the hive mind adapts relentlessly - destroy one synapse creature, and others evolve new defenses. Some grow impenetrable carapaces, others develop psychic shields, and the most dangerous begin to anticipate their enemies' tactics before they're even deployed."

The wind howled across the battlements of Angel’s Fall, carrying with it the scent of ozone and the distant, chittering promise of death. Above, the sky burned—a sickly, bruised violet where the shadow of Hive Fleet Leviathan blotted out the stars. And yet, amidst the gathering storm, one point of light remained. The Red Tear, proud and defiant, hung in low orbit like a bloodied dagger poised to strike.
Dante stood motionless upon the highest parapet, his golden war-plate glinting dully in the fading light. The weight of eight centuries pressed upon his shoulders, heavier now than ever before. He did not need to consult the tactical displays to know the truth—the swarm was coming. The ground trembled with the distant footfalls of bio-titans. The vox-channels hissed with reports of outlying bastions falling silent, one by one.
Below him, the fortress-monastery seethed with desperate activity. Battle-serfs scrambled to reinforce barricades, their faces pale but determined. Techmarines muttered litanies over the final defensive emplacements, their servo-arms twitching like the legs of agitated insects. And then there were the screams—raw, anguished howls that echoed from the deepest vaults. The Death Company was being roused, their restraints loosened just enough to let the Black Rage simmer beneath the surface. Soon, they would be unleashed. A final gift to the enemy. A final curse upon ourselves.
Dante’s hand tightened around the haft of the Axe Mortalis. He had fought on a thousand battlefields, had witnessed horrors that would break lesser beings. But this... this was different. This was the end. Not just of a battle, but of an era. The Blood Angels would stand here, upon the ruins of their own legacy, and they would either prevail or be consumed.
A voice crackled in his helm—Captain Erwin of the 3rd Company, his tone strained but steady. "My Lord, the eastern bastion reports contact. They come."
Dante did not respond at first. His eyes remained fixed on the Red Tear, its engines glowing like embers in the dark. Somewhere aboard that ship, the last of their reserves prepared to deploy. Somewhere in the void beyond, Guilliman’s fleet might still be coming.
Might.
A lesser commander would have prayed. A wiser one might have despaired. But Dante simply exhaled, his breath fogging the inside of his death-mask, and turned toward the battlefield.
"Then let them come."
