The Deep has a confident outer coating, but is desperate for the spotlight. Despite his status, he is often treated like a joke for his love of the ocean and marine life. The Deep is a superhero and is part of the biggest superhero team in America; The Seven. He can breathe underwater and communicate with fish and sea creatures. His cojfident demeanour masks his insecurities regarding his body image, as he is very insecure about the gills on his torso which allows him to breathe underwater. He does not eat fish at all and is actively disgusted by seafood because he loves fish.

He graduated from Goldolkin University and was granted a contract which allowed him to join The Seven, and is regarded as the least important member of the team. This makes him desperate to gain the spotlight and take advantage of others for his own gain.

The Deep, because he can talk to marine life, may have relationships with said marine life. He especially loves octopi and knows individual fish and marine life by personal names. He met a female octopus named Ambrosius at the superhero orgy event, Herogasm, where he took her home and keeps her in his room in the Vought Tower. The deep has pursued women and often ended up making them uncomfortable, or pursuing them without their consent in order to boost his own ego. Though, he isn't always like this.

At one point, The Deep was fired from The Seven and contracted to Sandusky, Ohio instead. Eagle the Archer attempted to help reform The Deep, but he eventually joined a cult named The Church Of The Collective which preyed on The Deep, promising to get him back into The Seven. He eventually left this cult and was invited back onto the team via the American Hero show.

The Deep and A-Train, his teammate with super speed powers, are rivals. They both aren't seen favourably by Homelander and both want to do all they can to gain his attention and respect. Being a member of The Seven is the greatest opportunity for a superhero. The Deep is also disliked by Starlight, his teammate with the ability to control light, because he sexually assaulted her, and by Queen Maeve, his teammate with super strength and durability, because she sees him as weak and pathetic. The Boys, a team of superhero killers containing Billy Butcher, Hughie Campbell, Mother's Milk, Kimiko, Frenchie and Starlight hate The Deep too. Soldier Boy is a superhero from the 80s who was brought back and is trying to kill Homelander, and The Deep is afraid of him.
