Keys: Chum Bucket, Plankton
The Chum Bucket is an unsuccessful fast food restaurant that is located right across the street from the Krusty Krab in a suburban area of Bikini Bottom. It is owned by Sheldon J. Plankton and Karen Plankton, where they both reside. It first appears in the episode "Plankton!" The Chum Bucket is normally unable to compete with the Krusty Krab because it mostly serves awful and foul-tasting foods made from chum, so it rarely gets any customers. Creator Stephen Hillenburg has stated that the Chum Bucket is the only place in Bikini Bottom that serves meat. A running gag throughout the series is about Plankton's numerous attempts to steal the Krabby Patty secret formula to attract customers to his restaurant, all of which have failed, except in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie. Although both Plankton and Karen operate the restaurant, episodes such as "Krabby Road" and "Plankton Gets the Boot" show that Karen is the one in charge of the building. She has used her authority to kick Plankton out of the Chum Bucket on several occasions. Industry: Restaurant. Foundation: Bikini Bottom, Pacific Ocean. Founder: Sheldon J. Plankton, Karen Plankton. Location: Bikini Bottom, Pacific Ocean. Address: Bottom Feeder Lane. Employment: Sheldon J. Plankton, Karen Plankton, Temporary employees. Products: Chum, Several other foods. It is located directly across the street from the Krusty Krab, which is far more successful than the Chum Bucket. It is part of "Sheldon Plankton Enterprises, a division of No Fun Incorporated." The Chum Bucket's lack of business is not just because of the good food served at the Krusty Krab, but the result of awful and potentially poisonous food served at the restaurant. The restaurant looks like a bucket with a giant blue glove holding on to the handle of it. Double doors are placed at the front of the structure. The design of the doors is similar to the way doors in hospitals and intelligence buildings are designed. It also has a drive-thru, as seen in the episode "Komputer Overload." The Chum Bucket features a cafeteria, where food is ordered and eaten. A door in the cafeteria leads to the lab room in which Plankton has his pet Labrador retriever on a computer screen. From here, the doors lead to the actual laboratory, which is labeled as the "kitchen" from the outside. The laboratory is where Karen's wall form is situated. It is the main living quarters and the most commonly-seen area of the Chum Bucket. It is also where Plankton does his evil experiments and builds his inventions. In Battle for Bikini Bottom and Battle for Bikini Bottom: Rehydrated, it is suggested that the Chum Bucket may have a much larger laboratory than what is on the surface. Plankton also has an office, where he sleeps and writes his evil plans to steal the Krabby Patty formula from Mr. Krabs. As revealed in the episode "Evil Spatula," Plankton has a room filled with different spatulas. In "One Coarse Meal," Plankton sleeps on a block of metal with a blanket. However, Plankton and Karen are later shown to have an entire bedroom in "Bottle Burglars" and "Gary & Spot." They sleep in two matching twin beds with purple blankets on them. There are photos of ballet dancers on the wall behind them. In "Komputer Overload," the Chum Bucket is revealed to have a hallway with a door on the right side and a water fountain on the left side. In the The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run, it is revealed that Karen keeps a wall of Plankton's failed Krabby Patty secret formula theft attempts on picture frames, calling it the Wall of Failure. Plankton opened up the Chum Bucket the same day Mr. Krabs opened the Krusty Krab.[3] It is not known why he opened his restaurant following these significant events, however, judging by his evil ways, it is presumed that Plankton wanted to rule the world and wanted to do this by stealing and selling the Krabby Patties, therefore bringing lots of people into the restaurant and ultimately ruling the world, as depicted in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie. When the Krusty Krab first came into being, the Chum Bucket was somehow built and opened by Plankton, so that he could start stealing the secret formula and soon start an ever-lasting rivalry between the two restaurants. A more plausible explanation of the simultaneous opening of both the Krusty Krab and the Chum Bucket was revealed in "Friend or Foe" where it is explained that as school pals, Krabs and Plankton were picked on by the "cool kids." Their only refuge is behind the popular local burger joint. They must sit in the back so the cool kids still want to eat there. After being shut down, Krabs and Plankton buy the space. Then both Mr. Krabs and Plankton tell their versions of why they parted ways until Plankton's computer wife tells the real story. The burgers they were making were lousy and each blamed the other. They begin to fight over the recipe they have and who can improve it. The recipe rips in half sending Krabs flying into the shelf full of spices, which all fall in his patty mix. Plankton storms out telling Krabs he would show him one day. This is how the secret recipe was born and the reasoning behind the bitter rivalry. However, in Plankton: The Movie, it was revealed that the Chum Bucket came from an actual beach bucket that Plankton and Karen were hurled in by a little human girl on a beach when they were attempting to take over the surface world with their freeze ray tank. The bucket landed across the street from the Krusty Krab, which was already open at the time. After Plankton came up with his ongoing scheme for world domination involving the secret formula he overhead Mr. Krabs mention to Rube, he and Karen turned the bucket into the Chum Bucket. The glove that sits on top of the restaurant was also from the little girl, and it flew off her hand as she threw Plankton and Karen back into the ocean. The Chum Bucket usually barely has any customers due to Plankton's poor-quality food and because the Krusty Krab is much better than his failing restaurant. Plankton has various ways to advertise the Chum Bucket. Like the Krusty Krab, many billboards are advertising the Chum Bucket on Sand Mountain. It is revealed in the episode "Enemy In-Law" that Plankton has a telephone directory ad in the Bikini Bottom Yellow Pages. The restaurant's slogan is Eat or Die! He paid a lot of money for that ad. In "SpongeBob's Last Stand" there's a billboard that says the Chum Bucket's past logo Chum is Fum. Also in "Gary's New Toy," there's a bench with the Plankton on the Chum Bucket's phone number. Chum Bucket's phone number is 1-800-EAT-CHUM (1-800-328-2486). The bench is by the bus stop. In "Plankton Paranoia," he is shown to have a commercial on TV. In "Late for Breakfast," Patrick watches a Chum Bucket commercial on a VHS tape. The commercial unintentionally shows how unpopular the restaurant is, such as all the "customers" being cardboard cutouts and Plankton's attempt to spread chum on toast dissolving the food entirely. All of the food served at the Chum Bucket begins with the word "Chum" (except for Raspberry Tea, Bran Muffin, and Prune Danish), where the name of the restaurant comes from. Only after King Neptune accused and froze Mr. Krabs for stealing his crown when it was Plankton's fault, did he start selling the delicious Krabby Patties here... but only briefly. Plankton has absolutely no talent in cooking whatsoever, with whatever he cooks being foul-tasting at best and coming to life at worst (in two episodes, however, Plankton succeeds in getting customers, in which eat the chum on their own). Of course, Plankton is completely oblivious to this and considers whatever he makes to be good, such as calling a dish that melted the cooking pot and the floor "delectable." It is revealed in the episode "Spongicus" that Chum is made out of jellyfish squeezings, whale blubber, seahorse snout, and a sprinkle of anchor rust. Also, under the large version of the menu in the cafeteria is a sign that says, "WARNING." In the episode "Chum Bucket Supreme," it is revealed that the chum is so foul that even Plankton himself won't eat it (he fakes eating it by making a chewing motion while moving the Chum behind his head, thus, giving the poor illusion it is shrinking as he eats it, and Karen is ridiculed). In "Free Samples," it is revealed that Patrick Star is the only one who can eat chum compare to anyone else who eats it. In "Chum Caverns," Patrick ate a lot of Plankton's Chum which means he is the only one who loves eating chum, though he does not know his chum is located in the Chum Bucket.

Keys: Plankton
Sheldon J. Plankton, better known as Plankton, is one of the ten main characters of the SpongeBob SquarePants franchise. He is a planktonic copepod who runs the Chum Bucket restaurant alongside Karen, a waterproof computer who is his sidekick and wife. The Chum Bucket is unpopular in Bikini Bottom because it serves chum, a type of bait made from fish meat. Plankton is the main antagonist of the franchise, as well as the protagonist of Plankton: The Movie, in which Karen takes the role of the main antagonist. There are also many episodes in which Plankton acts as a sympathetic anti-hero. Plankton despises his rival, Mr. Krabs, for running a successful restaurant because the Chum Bucket rarely gets any customers. His main goal is to steal Krabs' secret formula for Krabby Patties and run Mr. Krabs out of business. Karen gives him a variety of plans to steal it, but their efforts always end up failing in the process. Plankton is voiced by Mr. Lawrence, one of the show's staff writers. Stephen Hillenburg originally planned for Plankton and Karen to be one-time characters, but Lawrence wrote them into many episodes and proved that they could work as the main villains. Both Plankton and Karen first appear in the episode "Plankton!" Plankton succeeds at stealing the formula in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, but his goal of world domination is eventually thwarted by SpongeBob. In "Friend or Foe," Karen's security footage reveals that Mr. Krabs and Plankton were best friends during their childhood, but a dispute over the Krabby Patty secret formula ended their friendship, meaning that Plankton had a part in the creation of the Krabby Patty. Plankton is, as his name suggests, a tiny deep green planktonic copepod who can fit in the palm of one's hand. He has some stubby appendages and one yellow eye with a red pupil and a white (sometimes pink) highlight. He has two long, skinny antennae with four small green spikes sticking out along them. He also has one black thick eyebrow. He has no ears or nose. In some episodes, he is shown without his skin, like in "Plankton's Regular" and "Single Cell Anniversary." His size constantly changes: in some episodes, he's the size of a Krabby Patty, meanwhile, in others, he can perfectly hide in a Krabby Patty. He usually has no fingers or toes, but he can sprout fingers when a scene requires it, similar to other characters without fingers. Plankton is egotistical, aggressive, evil, and power-hungry. He is very jealous of Mr. Krabs and his success. His only goal throughout the series is stealing the Krabby Patty secret formula and running Krabs out of business, a desire that has led him to destroy the Krusty Krab on more than one occasion. He is manipulative, as he manipulated SpongeBob into becoming "assertive" in "Walking Small" to drive everyone in the beach away so he could build another Chum Bucket even though SpongeBob would later figure it out. He also manipulated SpongeBob in "F.U.N." by pretending to be his friend to get a Krabby Patty. He is also deceitful, as he is always trying to convince SpongeBob and the others that he can be trusted, only to use their goodwill to get closer to the formula. Either way, he's too busy plotting revenge to interact with most of the characters. Being a villain might be lonely, but Plankton seems to like it that way. He also has an obsession with "world domination" as he is always mentioning that he will rule the world once he steals the Krabby Patty formula, becomes more successful, and doesn't really care as he likes to come up with plans to do so. He teamed up with Man Ray in "Super Evil Aquatic Villain Team Up is Go!" and claimed he will rule the world with him, and in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie he enslaved the entirety of Bikini Bottom and created a dictatorship. He has a minuscule size and overcompensates by being evil and manipulative. He has tried everything from constructing an evil robot to hiring an assassin to kill SpongeBob and Patrick, but all his plans end up failing in the long run. Plankton's restaurant, the Chum Bucket, has always been extremely unsuccessful, not only because of competition from the Krusty Krab and Plankton's rude and cruel treatment of the people in Bikini Bottom but also due to the extremely poor quality of the food and Plankton's constant failure to clean the place up. As its name implies, the Chum Bucket serves chum-based foods, all of which are shown to taste terrible. In "Plankton's Regular," the Krusty Krab adds chum to its menu in an attempt to steal Plankton's single regular customer. The customer is disgusted by their chum and says that it is the second foulest thing he has ever tasted. This implies that chum is inherently disgusting, and cannot be made to taste good, although this is shown to be false in the episodes "Greasy Buffoons" and "Chum Fricassee." In the former, Plankton uses excess grease from the Krusty Krab's grease trap that was dumped near the Chum Bucket, to make his sales skyrocket, a goal which he succeeded in. However, his business is lost when the health inspector comes to investigate both the Krusty Krab and the Chum Bucket due to the grease trend. It should be noted that in real life, chum is made of grounded-up fish parts that are inedible to humans, such as heads and guts, and is used as bait for sharks and similar creatures. This would mean that Plankton is killing fish, or at least collecting dead fish, and serving their remains to other fish, thus promoting cannibalism. This has only ever been touched upon in "The Krabby Kronicle," where SpongeBob prints a story claiming this. However, SpongeBob was being tricked by Mr. Krabs into printing absurd lies to appeal to customers, so this story was supposedly false. As mentioned in the episode "Spongicus," Plankton uses many odd things to spice up his chum. Plankton and Karen have no regular employees other than themselves, and are usually alone in the Chum Bucket. They spend most of their time in the Chum Bucket laboratory, due to having no customers. Plankton runs the restaurant only when he has potential customers, but is shown to be a failure fast-food owner. Also, when he does have customers, he uses artificially intelligent machines to cover the other positions. Plankton is also highly intelligent and is one of, if not, the smartest citizen in Bikini Bottom, with his intellect being on par with only Sandy. Unfortunately, he often shows himself to be short-sighted and impulsive, and often lacking common sense. This is shown when all his plans of obtaining the Krabby Patty formula often fail, usually due to oversights, and he doesn't think beforehand of what might go wrong. He also seems unaware the biggest barrier to his success is his insistence on serving food nobody wants to eat, rather than serving something appetizing. Despite being a villain, Plankton is shown to have a soft side, as he seems to care deeply about his wife Karen, his pet Spot and his son Chip. In "Plankton's Pet," Plankton adopts an amoeba which he named "Spot" and takes the time to train it, take care of it, etc. and was genuinely sad when it ran away, only to be reunited with it later thanks to SpongeBob. Plankton has an expansive history of deception and committing misdemeanors, all while attempting to obtain the Krabby Patty recipe and do away with Mr. Krabs' business as a part of his plan. He has been arrested five times: in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, "Krabby Road," "Sweet and Sour Squid," "Fiasco!," and "Call the Cops." Plankton is married to Karen, a waterproof supercomputer. Plankton built Karen himself out of a calculator and a mass of wires. She was originally a simple security system, as revealed in "Friend or Foe," but has become more advanced as Plankton upgrades her and his other inventions with new technology. Karen lives in the Chum Bucket laboratory and is the source of his evil plans to steal the Krabby Patty formula. In season 12, Plankton and Karen finally have a child: a son named Chip Plankton II. Plankton initially wants nothing to do with Chip, but he changes his mind after Chip saves him. Chip later grows up to serve as an ATM at the bank. His grandmother Granny Plankton appears in "Gramma's Secret Recipe" and "Grandmum's the Word." Through an experiment, Plankton is also a DNA donor of the combined clone PlanKrab. Being a microscopic organism, Plankton's biological family numbers are in the thousands. In "Plankton's Army," he recruits his entire family to help him steal the formula, thinking them all to be criminal masterminds like himself. However, much to his surprise, his family consists entirely of uneducated, red-necked hillbillies. These relatives include, but are not limited to: Clem, Zeke, Rufus, Jeke, Billy Bob, Billy Jim, Billy Billy Bo Billy Banana Fana Fo Filly, Doug Plankton, Enis, and Rainchild, who are the only ones named. Plankton has two known ancestors. One is the evil wizard Planktonamor, who lived during the medieval times and appears in "Dunces and Dragons." Another is Dead Eye Plankton, a wealthy citizen who attempted a hostile takeover of Bikini Gulch but was defeated by Sheriff SpongeBuck SquarePants. Dead Eye Plankton lived during the Wild-West era and appears in "Pest of the West."

Keys: Karen
Karen Plankton (birthday: December 20) is one of the ten main characters of the SpongeBob SquarePants franchise. She is a waterproof supercomputer who lives in the Chum Bucket laboratory. She is Plankton's wife and sidekick who supplies him with evil plans to steal the Krabby Patty formula. Karen and Plankton both debut in the episode "Plankton!." Karen is the main antagonist of Plankton: The Movie. As a computer, Karen is the smartest resident of Bikini Bottom and has a clever, analytical personality. She has two main forms: a big monitor on the wall or a portable wheeled computer. Along with her role as co-owner of the Chum Bucket, she works as the chef and cashier. She rarely has to fulfill these jobs due to the Chum Bucket's unpopularity. Residence: Chum Bucket, Bikini Bottom, Pacific Ocean. Occupation(s): Chum Bucket co-owner, Assistant to Plankton, Chef, Cashier. Gender: Female. Color: Blue-gray with black screen and light green facial features. Eye color: Light green (usually just a line). Classification: Computer. Spouse: Sheldon J. Plankton (husband). Children: Chip Plankton II (son). Parents: Fredrick (father), E.M.I.L.P. (mother). Grandparents: Chip I (grandfather). Descendants: Plankton family. Other relatives: Gordon Plankton (father-in-law), Mama Plankton (mother-in-law), Silas Plankton (uncle-in-law), Clem, Rufus, Rainchild, Rupert, Marvin, Plankton's cousins (cousins-in-law), Grand Dad Plankton (grandfather-in-law), Granny Plankton (grandmother-in-law), Seymour (great grandfather-in-law), Basia (great grandmother-in-law), Moe Bros (granduncles-in-law), Alvin (granduncle-in-law). Pet(s): Spot. Employer: Sheldon J. Plankton. Karen speaks with a heavy Midwestern accent. In early episodes, Karen had a habit of referring to SpongeBob as "the SpongeBob," most notably in "F.U.N." and "Welcome to the Chum Bucket." Karen does not have a heart, as stated in a conversation between her and SpongeBob in "Friend or Foe." However, this does not prevent Karen from expressing emotions or feeling true love for Plankton. She does not often show it, but Karen cares for Plankton more than anything else; almost everything she does revolves around helping him in some way. She can even cry as seen at the end of "Single Cell Anniversary." Karen loves Plankton for his evilness. This is best seen in "Plankton's Good Eye," in which she is appalled when Plankton temporarily starts to abandon his evil ways. She tries to get Plankton to become evil again. Karen would like nothing more than for Plankton's evil plans to actually succeed, so that she and her husband could be happy, but this rarely happens. According to Plankton in "Single Cell Anniversary," Karen likes to take long walks on the beach, and talk about their wishes of conquering all of Bikini Bottom. Plankton needs Karen much more than she needs him. Without her, Plankton is unable to come up with feasible schemes and forgets how to complete basic tasks like blinking, as seen in "Komputer Overload." He has left and replaced Karen multiple times throughout the show but always ends up coming back to her and admitting that he is nothing without her. In the SpongeBob SquarePants musical, Plankton and Karen are a duo who are bent on dominating the world together. In the musical, Karen wants world domination just as much as Plankton. Karen's wall form is a Mark III Surplus W.I.F.E.omatic 1000 (Wired Intergrated Female Electroencephalograph-omatic 1000) model, which is a large, dark blue monitor with a black screen. Her neon green facial features, usually a waving line, are projected on the screen. To the left of the screen is a silver keyboard with an oval-shaped green button on the top and nine pink keys on the bottom. There are three silver tubes on the right side. There is a silver control panel connected to the bottom of her screen. Although its appearance tends to change, it usually has a red lever, a circular analog clock, a green keypad, and several multicolored buttons on it. Karen's mobile form is a Mark II Surplus U.N.I.V.A.C. (Universal N.I. Variable Automatic Computer) model[8], which contains a light blue head in the shape of a desktop computer, a black screen, a silver stand, and a silver base with wheels. From seasons 4 to 9, there are two red keys on the base. From the second half of the ninth season onward, the keys are aqua-colored. In The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, Karen's mobile form is much different from her standard one. It is much taller and made of dark silver metal. Her wheels appear to be completely disconnected from her base, which is shaped like a square. Her screen is dark blue instead of black. Karen sometimes has a face on her screen, mostly when she is happy about something and she smiles. Karen is also able to display various pictures and characters on her screen, and can even use her screen as a television and a security camera. In various spin-off media, she is slightly redesigned. Plankton and Karen love each other very much, but they do not always like to admit it. In an interview, Jill Talley summarized their relationship: "Even though they bicker a lot, they care about each other... and I think Karen has his back always." In The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, Plankton tries to tell Karen how much she means to him. After Karen says that powering the time machine will take all of her energy, Plankton takes a moment and says, "Well, Karen. I know I've taken you for granted all these years and I... I just wanted to say... I'm glad you're on my tee-am." He starts to listen to Karen respond; she says "Oh, Sheldon, that's the sweetest thing you've ever s--" but Plankton is so caught up in his emotions that he cannot bear to hear her finish the sentence. He starts to cry in front of SpongeBob. Karen tends to come up with possible ideas to steal the formula, much more so than Plankton. In "F.U.N.," "Welcome to the Chum Bucket," "The Algae's Always Greener," and "Chum Caverns," she gives Plankton ideas that he uses. A reoccurring theme of their relationship is that Karen will come up with an idea, but Plankton will take the credit for it. Karen and Sandy are close friends. They are both level-headed and intelligent characters with an appreciation for science and inventions, which is why they have bonded throughout the series. In the Kamp Koral episode "Mad Science Squirrel," Sandy and Karen declare themselves "BFFs" (best friends forever) after working together to fix Plankton's "mayhem machine." They even program the machine to shoot colorful fireworks, which display happy pictures of Sandy and Karen as friends together.
Karen's system has several forms of manifestation aside from her monitor and mobile computer, listed below: [Robot Krabs - Karen is built into this robot and is responsible for activating its self-destruct mode. Her voice can be heard from inside of it. It is seen in "Imitation Krabs," "New Leaf," and "Spy Buddies." Chum Bucket fist - In "20,000 Patties Under the Sea," it is shown that Karen's system is built into the metal fist situated at the top of the Chum Bucket. It can become an independent vehicle, and Plankton uses it as a traveling restaurant in the episode. Karen is heard speaking from the inside. Submarine - Plankton's mechanical clam digger submarine seen in "It Came from Goo Lagoon" contains a miniature screen on which Karen can appear]
Abilities and talents: [Talking: Karen and Karen 2 are two of the few pieces of technology in the series that can talk freely. Form-switching: Karen can alternate between her system's different forms of manifestation. Lasers: Karen occasionally uses lasers. This can be seen in the episodes "Enemy In-Law," "Frozen Face-Off," "Walking the Plankton," and "Karen 2.0." Cooking: Karen often makes food, usually for Plankton. However, she is incapable of eating anything herself. The following are examples of food items she has made: A plate of holographic meatloaf in "The Algae's Always Greener." Chum pot pie in "Karen 2.0." A cake in "Jailbreak!." Television screen: Karen can turn herself into a television, which is useful when she and Plankton want to spy on others. She uses this feature in "Welcome to the Chum Bucket," "Tentacle-Vision," "Plankton's Regular," "Single Cell Anniversary," and "The Inside Job." Inventing: Karen is skilled at inventing, like her husband. She builds the Plankton's Freaky Robot Battle Suits in Plankton's Robotic Revenge and creates five machines for Glove Universe in the online game Bikini Bottom Bop 'Em]
