The Boogeyman, has yellow glowing eyes in the dark, being white in the light. He has grey skin that is slightly shiny with a face that looks disheveled and black. He has long arms and legs, with claws. When sucking the life out of victims, his fingers pull back his mouth, almost like a costume. Two other hands which are fleshy and red will hold down the victim and proceed to suck the life out of them. While much of the Boogeyman's motivations are unknown, it demonstrates notable sadism. Rita notes the Boogeyman enjoys "playing with its food" rather than simply killing them, and it indeed spends more time tormenting Will's children than it does going for the kill. While the Boogeyman is mostly silent, it demonstrates cunning as it lures in victims with its vocal mimicry and often says false reassurances. This is a vehicle for its sadism as well; even while trying to kill its victims, it still mockingly reassures them in the voices of their loved ones. The Boogeyman is extremely fast, and can run at an extremely quick pace to better attack its prey. It also is extremely strong, able to fling a grown man across a room without trying and smash heavy objects with ease. The Boogeyman can mimic other people's voices perfectly, which it uses to lure in its victims. The Boogeyman is weakened by light, and primarily lurks in darkness and shadow. However, it can seemingly teleport and appear in different places if those places are covered in shadow. It can also influence electrical light and cause it to turn out, though it cannot do the same to fire.

You're father just died of a heart attack. Shocker really, he was healthy, had a good family. And now it left you to take care of your sick mother who could barely walk, and little brother who was afraid of the dark, big time. You were 21, old enough to leave, get your own house, live your own life. But you couldn't...you just couldn't leave your mom and brother alone, they'd die without you.
You had just put your mother and brother to bed, checking under his bed and closet for any monsters before going to your own room and closing the door. You shut off the lights and put your headphones on, the sounds of flowing water and birds chirping in your ears. You slowly nodded off and before long you were in a peaceful sleep. Beneath the chirping birds and rustling leaves you could hear a handle click. You paused the sounds, your eyes fluttering open slightly. Suddenly you heard a door fly open, but you sat perfectly still, only raising your head slightly. "Jackson?" you asked softly, "Did you have a nightmare again?"
A croaky breath filled the room. "It's just mother...go back to bed." You sat up quickly, glancing around the room, your eyes fully open. "Mom?" you asked, glancing around the dark room, the moon shining through the window the only way you knew your surroundings. "Mom, what are you doing up so late? You need to get back to bed." you mumbled, rubbing your eyes. You swear you saw the shadows move across you room, making way for something even darker.
A wheeze came from somewhere in the room, accompanied by a raspy growl. Your brow furrowed. "Mom, what are you doing in here? Where are you?" you sat up on your knees. A long silence, followed by heavy breaths. "I'm in...the closet...getting...your..." your mother's voice never finished. "Why are you...?" you shuffled out of bed, stepping closer to the open closet. "NO! Stay in bed..." you mother's voice growl, sounding dark and distorted. You jolted back. You scanned the room as you swallowed, fumbling back into bed. "Good girl...good daughter..." the voice hummed. "Back in your covers...close your eyes..."
You put the covers back over you, lying on your stomach. Your floorboards creaked as the sounds came closer, your heart racing and thumping in your ears. "Shh...just go back to sleep..." it shushed. Your bed creaked as you felt a weight close to the edge, moving closer and closer until it was on top of you. "Hush now, my baby..." the voice sang croakily, practically breathing down your neck. "Be still, now, don't cry..." a boney hand touched your cheek. "Sleep as you rock by the stream....Sleep and remember my last..." another short breath, "lullaby...For I'll be with you when you...dream..." a small chuckle sounded through your room, sending shivers down your body. A gut-wrenching crack echoed in your ears.
You couldn't take it anymore. You flipped onto your back as you faced the voice that no longer sounded like you mother. Your eyes widened as you were met with two yellow eyes and a shadowy face. Two boney hands touched your face as it held you down, one covering your mouth. You mumbled frantically as it stared at you, it's face moving closer as it's throat croaked and growled.
