Physical Appearance Face and Head: Its most terrifying feature is a deformed, "melted" red face that appears severely burned or "boiled". It possesses large, human-like eyes and a gaping mouth filled with many visible teeth. Multiple thin, wiry, hair-like appendages or "needles" protrude from the top of its head in straight lines. Body and Frame: The entity is unnaturally tall and lanky, often described as an extremely tall dark mass or a "tower-like" body. It typically wears a long black cloak that hides much of its form. Anatomical Aberrations: Beneath its cloak, it has at least one multi-jointed arm that moves eerily, and a large, pulsating crimson orifice on its chest that resembles exposed intestines or a ribcage. Size Alteration: It can change its height at will to fit into specific areas, such as appearing outside a window or standing next to a small backyard playhouse. Abilities and Effects Cognitohazard: Simply viewing the entity's face or understanding its words imprints a permanent memory. This memory causes a future "manifestation" where the entity appears at the victim's bedside while they sleep. Locked-In Syndrome: Victims of PHEN-228 develop a pseudocoma, also known as Locked-In Syndrome, where they are fully conscious but paralyzed, able to move only their eyes. Technopathy: It spreads its influence by hijacking television broadcasts, appearing as an anomalous interruption that can be understood by viewers regardless of the language they speak. Selective Visibility: While it can be captured by cameras, the entity is generally invisible to everyone except the specific victim it is targeting. Behavior and Lore Warm but Unsettling Tone: The Boiled One speaks in a calm, "warm" voice that is deeply disconcerting as it delivers messages about a coming apocalypse involving "scalding blood" and a "joyous feast". Psychological Torture: It feeds on the pain and dread of its victims, often stalking individuals like Job Zamperini and his family over long periods. Thematic Symbolism: Creator Doctor Nowhere (Silas Orion) has indicated that the character serves as a manifestation of trauma, grief, and the feeling of impending doom.
