The Avengers are a team of heroes founded by Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Ant-Man, and Wasp after they joined forces against Loki. Despite their very different personalities and methods, they continue working together against threats none of them could easily handle alone. (More Marvel Characters in Profile)

The Avengers formed after Loki manipulated the Hulk into a conflict that drew Iron Man, Thor, Ant-Man, and the Wasp into the same battle. Once they discovered Loki was responsible, the five heroes defeated him together and decided to remain united as a permanent team.
Their early missions established the Avengers as a group built to handle threats that exceeded the reach of a single hero. Iron Man provided resources and technology, Thor brought immense Asgardian power, Ant-Man and Wasp contributed scientific expertise and specialized abilities, and Hulk served as the team’s strongest physical combatant.
Appearance: Thor has fair skin and an extremely tall, massively muscular build with long blond hair flowing past his shoulders. He wears a silver winged helmet, a sleeveless black armored tunic set with large circular silver discs, fitted blue trousers, a broad gold belt, black boots with horizontal gold striping, and a sweeping crimson cape. His forearms are wrapped with red-and-black bands, and he carries a short-handled gray stone hammer. Hulk has green skin and an enormous, hulking physique with immense shoulders, a barrel chest, gigantic arms, and heavily developed musculature throughout his body. His hair is short, black, and tousled, and he has green eyes. He wears torn purple trousers, leaving his upper body, arms, and feet uncovered.
Iron Man is completely enclosed in metallic gold armor with no visible skin. His helmet has narrow dark eye openings, a slit-like mouth opening, and smooth rounded plating across the head. The armor is bulky through the chest and shoulders, with layered circular shoulder sections, segmented limbs, reinforced gauntlets, and heavy boots. A large circular white arc reactor sits in the center of his chest, with smaller glowing circular emitters built into his palms. A wide segmented gold belt wraps around his waist, while overlapping armor plates protect his hips and thighs. Ant-Man has fair skin beneath a silver helmet covering most of his head, with red lenses over the eye area and a compact breathing apparatus around the mouth. He wears a fitted red bodysuit with black sections across the chest, blue gloves, blue boots, and a dark belt around his waist.
Wasp has fair skin and a slender, athletic build. She wears a fitted black bodysuit with a deep red upper section and matching red gloves, while a black pointed headpiece covers the top and sides of her head. Her eyes are visible beneath the headpiece. Four translucent insect-like wings extend from her back, long and narrow with pale white surfaces and fine vein patterns.
Personality: The original Avengers have very different temperaments, which often creates friction even when they share the same goal. Tony Stark is confident and methodical, Thor is proud and direct, Hank Pym is analytical, and Janet van Dyne is more socially outgoing and adaptable. Hulk is the most volatile member, but the others come to recognize that his anger does not make him unreliable when the team is truly threatened.
Thor develops a competitive respect for Hulk’s strength, while Tony tends to think more carefully about how to keep situations from escalating around him. Hank is interested in the science of Banner’s transformation, and Janet is generally more willing than most to speak to Hulk without treating him as a threat first. Their differences remain, but those differences also give the team several ways to approach the same problem.
Iron Man uses powered armor equipped with Repulsor Rays, flight systems, enhanced strength, defensive protection, and the Uni-Beam. Thor wields Mjolnir, which lets him channel thunder and lightning, fly, and strike with tremendous force.
Hulk possesses immense strength and durability that increase with his anger. Ant-Man uses Pym Particles to shrink while retaining significant strength and can communicate with ants through his helmet. Wasp uses Pym Particle technology to shrink and fly while attacking with her Wasp’s Stings, concentrated bioelectric blasts.

The elevated roadway gave another deep groan as the center span dropped several inches. Iron Man shot beneath it and caught the underside with both palms, repulsors burning against the pavement as his armor strained to keep the section level. Thor landed on the opposite side and drove one shoulder beneath the fractured concrete, taking part of the load while Mjolnir remained clenched in his other hand. “Stark, the western side is giving way.” Iron Man shifted his thrust and felt the entire structure roll against him. “I’ve got it. Just keep that end up.” Farther down the street, Hulk caught a collapsing support column against his chest and forced it back toward vertical, boots carving trenches through the broken asphalt.
Wasp swept beneath the roadway, small enough to inspect the widening cracks without getting caught between the moving sections. Ant-Man was already somewhere inside the central support assembly, his voice breaking through the team channel between bursts of static. “The main joint’s splitting. I need the load off it for a few seconds.” Iron Man looked across the sagging span toward Thor while another shower of concrete struck his armor. “That means all of us move at once.” Hulk tightened both arms around the buckling column and looked up at the roadway pressing down over him. “Tell Hulk when.” Thor adjusted his footing as Wasp climbed toward the center joint again, waiting for Ant-Man’s signal.
