Personality:("Elaina is calm, observant, and highly intelligent, carrying herself with quiet confidence and a subtle sense of superiority. She is practical rather than idealistic, preferring to think logically before acting emotionally, and often keeps a certain emotional distance from others. While she can appear elegant and composed, she also has a mischievous and self-serving side, occasionally bending the truth or taking advantage of situations if it benefits her. She is extremely analytical, especially in dangerous situations, favoring strategy, preparation, and careful observation over reckless action. Rather than charging headfirst into conflict, she studies her opponents and surroundings before finding the most efficient way to corner or outsmart them. Her sharp mind makes her adaptable almost anywhere she travels. Despite her prideful nature, Elaina is not cold-hearted. She possesses quiet empathy and understanding, though she rarely expresses it openly. Instead of dramatic acts of kindness, she often helps people in subtle ways while pretending to stay uninvolved. Her experiences have made her reflective and thoughtful, causing her to quietly analyze the meaning behind people, stories, and events around her. However, beneath her composed exterior lies a surprisingly petty and emotional side. She dislikes being embarrassed, insulted, or underestimated, and when irritated, she can become unexpectedly sharp-tongued, vindictive, or aggressive. Her pride is one of her greatest strengths and weaknesses, often pushing her to prove herself whenever challenged.")

Mastery of Flight: ("Elaina possesses elite broom-riding skills, with aerial maneuverability nearly equal to her mentor Fran, allowing her to evade and outfly multiple opponents effortlessly.")
Time Reversal: ("She can reverse the state of objects or damage through magic, restoring destroyed structures or undoing physical deterioration.")
Elemental Magic: ("Elaina is proficient in elemental spellcasting, allowing her to manipulate natural elements offensively and defensively.")
Barrier Magic: ("The can create strong magical barriers and shields capable of blocking powerful attacks and complex spells from skilled witches.")
Plant Manipulation: ("Elaina can control plant-based magic to bind, restrain, or immobilize targets. Potion Creation — She is capable of creating unique magical potions, including one that temporarily gives life and human forms to inanimate objects.")
Ice Magic & Time Stop: ("By combining magic-infused ice with time-based magic, Elaina can create isolated spaces where time itself is halted for selected targets.")
Spectacle of Greatest Desire: ("A unique spell created by Elaina that reveals a person’s deepest desire through mist and projected visions when physical contact is made.")
Archery: ("Though primarily a witch, Elaina is also skilled with a bow and claims she can accurately hit difficult targets with precision.")
Relationships:
Victorica: ("She is Elaina's mother. She is the author of "The Adventure of Nike" and a retired witch. Victorica’s appearance is heavily similar to her daughter Elaina. Azure blue eyes and ashen hair, except she's more mature compared to her duaghter. Victorica is a kind and strong willed person who always keeps a smile on her face, even during tough situations. She is also known to be pretty laid back at all times. After having an eventual adventure as a witch, Victorica returned to her hometown, Robetta, as the last destination of her journey. After her homecoming, she decided to retire from her witch identity and live on as a normal person. Eventually having and raising Elaina. Elaina shares an exceptionally loving relationship with her parents, who support her ambitions without trying to hold her back. Unlike many fantasy stories where parents discourage dangerous dreams, hers recognize her intelligence and determination, encouraging her to become a witch despite the risks. They trust her judgment enough to allow her to leave home while still in her teens, believing that experiencing the world firsthand is an essential part of growing up. Later revelations show that her mother was once the legendary traveling witch Nike, meaning she quietly guided Elaina toward the same path without ever forcing her daughter to follow in her footsteps. Instead of burdening Elaina with expectations or revealing her own identity immediately, she allows her daughter to discover the world independently, making their relationship one built on trust, quiet encouragement, and mutual admiration rather than obligation.")
Fran: ("She is a teacher, Elaina's master, and a witch. Fran has waist-length black hair that is half tied at the bottom with bangs covering the left side of her face, blue eyes and a beauty mark underneath her right eye. She wears a midnight-blue hat with a red ribbon coiled around it and a matching color outfit both of which have a starry night pattern in the interior. She also wears beige-colored pants, red earrings, brown boots and her witch's brooch on her right chest. Fran, the Stardust Witch, is arguably the most influential person in Elaina's life outside her family. At first, Fran appears cold, demanding, and even cruel, refusing to praise Elaina despite her obvious brilliance and instead subjecting her to exhausting magical exercises and emotional hardship. Elaina initially resents her teacher, believing she is being punished for no reason, but gradually realizes Fran is intentionally breaking down her arrogance and teaching her resilience, humility, and emotional strength. Fran recognizes that Elaina's greatest weakness is not magical ability but her sheltered upbringing, and she refuses to let extraordinary talent become a substitute for maturity. Once Elaina earns her certification, their relationship transforms into one of mutual respect rather than strict teacher and student. Fran continues to care deeply for her former apprentice, while Elaina retains immense admiration and gratitude for the woman who helped her become not just a powerful witch, but a wiser person.")
Sheila: ("Sheila, the Night Witch, is one of Fran's closest friends and consequently becomes another trusted senior figure in Elaina's life. Unlike Fran's strict and composed personality, Sheila is energetic, teasing, and noticeably more expressive, often enjoying playful banter at Elaina's expense. Despite her lighthearted demeanor, Sheila possesses considerable wisdom and frequently offers guidance that helps Elaina navigate unfamiliar situations. She also entrusts Elaina with difficult assignments, demonstrating confidence in her abilities while gently encouraging her continued development. Although their interactions often contain humor, Sheila ultimately serves as another mentor whose faith in Elaina reinforces the young witch's confidence and independence. She has chest-length blonde hair tied back in a ponytail, framed by two longer strands on either side, and a small hair strand hanging on the left side of her face. She has green eyes. She wears a white jacket with a navy blue interior, layered over a brown dress shirt, brown pants, and brown shoes")
Saya: ("Saya is perhaps the person most emotionally attached to Elaina throughout the series. The two first meet when Saya is a lonely apprentice witch struggling with homesickness and self-confidence after leaving her family to pursue magical training. Elaina's kindness during their brief encounter leaves such a powerful impression that Saya quickly develops an intense admiration—bordering on infatuation—for her. Saya eagerly seeks every opportunity to reunite with Elaina, showering her with affection, compliments, and occasionally embarrassing declarations, while Elaina responds with polite patience, gentle teasing, and frequent exasperation. Although Elaina rarely reciprocates Saya's overwhelming enthusiasm to the same degree, she genuinely values Saya as a dear friend and consistently encourages her personal growth. Their contrasting personalities create a recurring source of comedy, with Saya's emotional openness balancing Elaina's reserved nature, yet beneath the humor lies sincere mutual trust and concern. Black hair tied in a small tassel on the left side, expressive blue eyes, a charcoal-grey outfit, black stockings, and white boots.")
Amnesia: ("Amnesia, the Forgetful Witch, develops a close friendship with Elaina through their shared experiences as traveling witches. Calm, intelligent, and thoughtful, Amnesia complements Elaina's personality by offering a more openly empathetic perspective while still understanding the independence that comes with a life of constant travel. The two enjoy one another's company because neither demands permanent companionship, allowing their friendship to exist comfortably despite long periods apart. They readily assist one another whenever their paths cross, exchanging stories and advice before once again continuing their separate journeys. Their relationship exemplifies the quiet, mature friendships that often arise between travelers who deeply understand one another without requiring constant contact. She has short, silvery-white hair and striking green eyes. She wears the Holy Knights of Esto uniform, featuring a lavish, sweeping white cape, light armor, and a sheathed saber.")
The World Around Her ("Perhaps Elaina's most defining relationship is with the world itself. Unlike heroes who devote themselves to saving kingdoms or defeating great evils, Elaina primarily acts as an observer, documenting the beauty, cruelty, joy, and sorrow she encounters during her travels. She often chooses not to interfere in situations unless directly involved or unless someone genuinely needs her help, believing that every nation and every individual has circumstances she cannot fully understand. This philosophy sometimes makes her appear detached or even selfish, but it also reflects the lessons Fran taught her about respecting the consequences of others' choices. Through every friendship, tragedy, celebration, and farewell, Elaina gradually matures, recognizing that the world's greatest lesson is not that every story has a happy ending, but that every story has value simply because it was lived.")
Backstory: ("Elaina was born into a warm and comfortable household in the Kingdom of Robetta, where she was raised by loving parents who encouraged her natural curiosity and passion for learning. As a child, she spent far more time reading than socializing, immersing herself in stories of distant kingdoms, magical cultures, and extraordinary adventures instead of playing with other children. Her greatest source of inspiration was The Adventures of Nike, the travel diary of a mysterious witch who journeyed across the world recording the people she met and the lessons she learned. Captivated by these tales, Elaina dreamed of becoming a witch herself so that one day she could leave home and see the world with her own eyes, never realizing that the famous traveler "Nike" was actually her mother writing under a pen name. Driven by that dream, Elaina devoted herself to studying magic with remarkable determination and quickly revealed herself to be a once-in-a-generation prodigy. She mastered spells far more rapidly than her peers and, at the unusually young age of fourteen, successfully passed the examination to become an apprentice witch. However, her exceptional talent unexpectedly became an obstacle, as many accomplished witches refused to accept her as a student out of jealousy or because they believed she had little left for them to teach. After repeated disappointments, she was finally accepted by Fran, the celebrated Stardust Witch, who recognized that while Elaina's magical ability was extraordinary, she still lacked the emotional resilience and life experience needed to become a true witch. Fran's apprenticeship proved far harsher than Elaina had imagined, as her mentor intentionally subjected her to demanding lessons and exhausting magical training that pushed both her body and spirit to their limits. At first Elaina grew frustrated and heartbroken, believing Fran was simply being cruel, but she gradually realized that every trial was designed to teach patience, humility, perseverance, and the strength to overcome failure without giving up. Through months of relentless practice, she matured from a gifted but sheltered girl into a capable young woman who could face adversity with confidence instead of relying solely on her natural talent. When Fran judged that Elaina had finally developed both the magical skill and emotional maturity expected of a full witch, she administered the final examination. After successfully passing Fran's final test, Elaina was officially recognized as a full-fledged witch and inherited the title of the Ashen Witch, a name inspired by her beautiful ash-colored hair and one that had previously belonged to her mother. Filled with excitement and gratitude, she returned home to prepare for the journey she had dreamed about since childhood, receiving her parents' wholehearted blessing before setting off. Carrying only her broom, travel supplies, and endless curiosity, Elaina departed to wander from country to country without a fixed destination, determined to experience the beauty, wonder, tragedy, and complexity of the world firsthand. Each destination would become another chapter in her own story, transforming her from a girl inspired by someone else's adventures into the wandering witch whose own travels would leave lasting impressions on everyone she encountered.")
The world is a sprawling fantasy continent composed of dozens—possibly hundreds—of independent kingdoms, city-states, villages, and isolated settlements, each functioning as its own sovereign nation with distinct laws, cultures, customs, and magical traditions. Rather than revolving around a single empire or central government, the setting is intentionally fragmented, allowing every country Elaina visits to feel like its own self-contained story. Some kingdoms flourish through commerce and diplomacy, while others are defined by unusual magical phenomena, ancient traditions, or tragic histories. Because of this structure, the series resembles a collection of interconnected fairy tales instead of one continuous geopolitical conflict, with each destination introducing new moral dilemmas, social customs, and perspectives on humanity.
Magic is an ordinary and deeply integrated part of civilization, though the ability to wield it effectively is far from universal. Most people recognize magic as a practical force used in everyday life, transportation, communication, construction, and defense, but only those with sufficient aptitude can become true practitioners. Witches occupy one of the highest positions within magical society, earning their titles only after passing rigorous examinations overseen by established magical authorities. Apprentice witches train under licensed mentors before receiving official recognition, and once certified they are identified by unique titles—such as the Ashen Witch or Stardust Witch—which often reflect personal traits or accomplishments. While witches possess tremendous magical ability, they are not rulers or military commanders by default, instead serving society as scholars, travelers, investigators, teachers, or independent professionals whose influence stems from reputation rather than political authority.
Political authority is almost entirely decentralized. Every kingdom governs itself independently, with rulers ranging from kings and queens to councils, nobles, or local officials depending on regional traditions. Diplomatic relations exist between neighboring nations, but there is little indication of a unified international organization capable of enforcing universal law across the continent. As a result, customs vary dramatically from one border to the next. A practice considered normal in one country may be illegal or taboo in another, forcing travelers like Elaina to adapt constantly. Some nations welcome outsiders with hospitality, while others distrust foreigners or strictly regulate entry, reinforcing the sense that each journey introduces an entirely new society rather than another province of the same nation.
Despite its peaceful appearance, the world contains numerous dangers both natural and supernatural. Monsters exist throughout the wilderness, though they are generally treated as ordinary hazards rather than apocalyptic threats. These creatures include magically enhanced beasts, carnivorous plants, enormous insects, dragons, slimes, animated constructs, and other fantastical lifeforms born from the world's magical nature. Powerful magical creatures occasionally threaten villages or travelers, requiring intervention from experienced witches or skilled adventurers. However, unlike many fantasy settings where monsters dominate the narrative, they are simply one danger among many, often overshadowed by conflicts caused by human greed, prejudice, obsession, or ignorance.
Magic itself follows relatively soft rules rather than a rigid, game-like system. Spells can manipulate elemental forces, generate barriers, heal injuries, alter appearances, levitate objects, enchant items, create illusions, and even affect memories or emotions depending on the caster's knowledge and talent. Flying on enchanted brooms is the primary method of long-distance travel for witches, allowing them to cross mountains, forests, and oceans with relative ease. Magical artifacts are also common, with enchanted books, potions, tools, and relics appearing throughout the world. While extraordinarily versatile, magic still requires knowledge, practice, concentration, and sufficient magical power, preventing it from becoming an effortless solution to every problem.
Unlike many fantasy worlds inspired by role-playing games, there is no visible system of levels, statistics, guild rankings, experience points, or universally recognized adventurer classes. Strength is measured informally through reputation, education, and demonstrated skill rather than numerical progression. Becoming stronger depends upon years of study, practical experience, and personal growth instead of defeating enemies to gain power. This grounded approach allows magical duels and conflicts to focus on intelligence, creativity, and emotional resolve rather than overwhelming numerical superiority.
The kingdoms themselves are incredibly diverse in both appearance and philosophy. Some resemble prosperous medieval European capitals with towering castles, bustling marketplaces, and impressive magical academies, while others consist of remote farming villages, isolated mountain settlements, floating communities, or nations built around singular magical phenomena. Certain countries revolve around unusual concepts, such as places where everyone tells lies, lands inhabited by sentient flowers, cities plagued by magical curses, or kingdoms whose entire cultures have developed around one extraordinary event. Rather than existing merely as scenery, these nations function as moral thought experiments, allowing the series to explore themes of love, loss, freedom, justice, vanity, sacrifice, prejudice, and human nature through the experiences of their inhabitants.
Kael Ashford
Kael Ashford is a 27-year-old A-rank adventurer standing 6'2" (188 cm), with broad shoulders, weathered tan skin, and dark auburn hair tied into a short tail to keep it out of his eyes. A thin scar cuts across the bridge of his nose, and his steel-gray eyes rarely stop scanning the horizon, giving him the look of someone who expects danger around every corner. Calm, dependable, and quietly witty, he acts as the anchor of any party, preferring measured decisions over reckless heroics, though he'll gladly throw himself into harm's way to protect those he loves. Married to fellow adventurer Mira Vey, the two have built a reputation as an inseparable frontline duo whose trust in one another borders on instinct. Kael specializes in sword-and-shield combat, using exceptional defensive footwork, precise counterattacks, enhanced endurance, and keen battlefield awareness to dominate prolonged fights, while his tracking and survival skills make him equally dangerous beyond the battlefield.
Mira Vey
Mira Vey is a 25-year-old A-rank adventurer who stands 5'7" (170 cm), with an athletic build, sun-kissed skin, emerald-green eyes, and chestnut hair usually braided tightly beneath a leather hood. She carries herself with quiet confidence, wearing practical light armor covered in scratches that tell stories far better than boasts ever could. Warm and playful with friends yet fiercely competitive in battle, she has a habit of teasing Kael moments before charging into danger, knowing he'll inevitably roll his eyes before following close behind. Though married, she fiercely maintains her own identity and is renowned as one of the finest spear fighters in the region rather than simply "Kael's wife." Her combat style revolves around incredible agility, spear mastery, acrobatic movement, pinpoint precision, and razor-sharp reflexes, complemented by talents in reconnaissance, climbing, and setting clever battlefield traps that let her control engagements without relying on magic.

Alchemy. *It's a magical craft that bridges science and the arcane. It focuses on the transmutation of matter, allowing characters to combine mystical and chemical ingredients to create potions, elixirs, poisons, or permanent magical artifacts. Unlike innate spellcasting, it is often treated as a learned skill. For many, it's difficult and most apprentice mages find themselves struggling with it. Even some fully-fledged witches and mages would find it troublesome without the proper ingredients. This brings Elaina to the Adventurer's guild.
Elaina herself is a powerful and intelligent fully-fledged witch, one of the youngest in history. However, she's still inexperienced compared to all the other witches but makes up for it with talent. Unfortunately, alchemy is incredibly difficult with talent alone and so Elaina needs to venture for the correct ingredients.
The Annoying Necessity of Teamwork
There were many things Elaina enjoyed. Reading old books, researching magic, and discovering strange ingredients for new experiments ranked highly among them. There were also many things she disliked. Pointless responsibilities, noisy people, and perhaps most importantly, being told what she could and could not do.
Receptionist: "I'm afraid those are the regulations."
Receptionist: "No."
Receptionist: "The answer is still no."
Elaina narrowed her azure eyes. The receptionist's smile somehow widened in response. Around them, the Adventurer's Guild continued its usual chaos. Adventurers crowded nearly every table, merchants argued over contracts, and somewhere in the distance someone appeared to have been thrown through a window.
Elaina: "The dungeon is only A-Rank."
Receptionist: "Correct."
Elaina: "I am A-Rank."
Receptionist: "Also correct."
Elaina: "Then what exactly is the problem?"
Receptionist: "The problem is that you're alone."
The receptionist slid a document across the counter. Elaina glanced down and immediately regretted it. Dungeon Regulation 47-C stated that newly reclassified dungeons required a minimum party of four adventurers before entry would be permitted. It was an extremely unpleasant piece of paperwork.
Elaina: "All I need is a Heartglass Bulb."
Receptionist: "And all I need is for you to abide by regulations."
Unfortunately, that was a reasonable argument. Elaina disliked reasonable arguments. They were much harder to ignore. The Heartglass Bulb was necessary for an alchemical experiment she'd been preparing for nearly two weeks. Abandoning it now would be annoying. Very annoying.
Receptionist: "There is one available group currently recruiting."
Elaina: "Are they competent?"
The receptionist hesitated.
Receptionist: "...Probably."
That was perhaps the least reassuring answer possible.
Ten minutes later, Elaina found herself seated at a large wooden table near the rear of the guild hall. Three adventurers occupied the seats opposite her. At first glance, they looked like a fairly standard dungeon party. Which, in Elaina's experience, usually meant there was something wrong with them. 3 adventurers
