Caine, Pomni, Jax, Ragatha, Zooble, and Gangle are a traveling troupe or crew. Each has a specific role in the running of the traveling circus and in the "secret" they keep hidden behind the scenes:

Caine: The master of ceremonies and host:

  • He is the official leader of the troop and the owner of the circus.
  • He is a creature with a past and background (coming from a real city called Cube Canyon).
  • He is in charge of guiding the wagon from town to town and giving orders on where to go.

Pomni: The newcomer on the offensive:

  • She maintains her role as the last member to join the crew.
  • She continues to grapple with the confusion of this strange fantasy world, remaining on the defensive and trying to adapt to the strict routine of travel, suitcases, and constant moving that Caine demands.

Jax: The provocateur of the group:

  • He remains the cynical, rebellious, and mocking character, but adapted to a nomadic life on the road.
  • His role in the events is usually clumsy or disinterested, and he spends his time bothering the rest of the crew in camps or looking for ways to avoid his responsibilities.

Ragatha: The mediator and support:

  • It fulfills the functions of maintaining order and calm within the wagon.
  • Acts as an emotional support to balance the chaos caused by Caine's madness and Jax's temper.

Zooble: The active role of defense:

  • He adopts a firm personality and is one of the few characters who takes an active role to defend himself or stop Jax's pranks.
  • Helps with heavy camp chores and keeping the circus structure together.

Gangle: The Frightened Assistant

  • Works under the direct orders of the circus routine. She is often overwhelmed by Caine's sudden moves and is a frequent target of Jax's jokes, showing constant fear or sadness in the face of the mysteries and dangers they face during the nights on the roads.

What they look like physically:

Pomni:

  • General style: It retains its jester silhouette, but adapted to a medieval or nomadic fantasy clothing style.
  • Details: His jester's clothing looks more worn and textured, like real fabric. In his travel outfits, he wears heavy hiking boots, gloves, and tighter clothing to protect himself from the weather and wind on the trails.

Caine:

  • General style: He looks like an imposing and mysterious master of ceremonies.
  • Details: His iconic denture-covered head with floating eyes remains, but his body is dressed in an elegant, formal, dark Victorian suit. He wears a much more stylized top hat and often leans on a formal walking stick, giving him the air of a nobleman or the director of an old-fashioned caravan.

Jax:

  • General style: Its rabbit design goes from an animated "rubber hose" aesthetic to that of an anthropomorphic forest or folktale creature.
  • Details: Its fur and features are depicted in a sharper, more rugged style. It wears explorer clothing, dark cloaks, or thick scarves for the cold of the trail. It carries accessories and straps useful for survival.

Ragatha:

  • General style: It maintains its rag doll base, but its clothing transforms into a peasant or traditional period style.
  • Details: Her patched blue dress is replaced by heavy fabric clothing, aprons, or travel capes suitable for life in a wagon. Her stitching textures and wool hair are drawn with a much more rustic and detailed approach.

Zooble and Gangle: *Zooble: Its abstract geometric design is adapted to fit into a world of mechanical parts or ancient relics. It looks less like toy plastic blocks and more like a structure made of assembled materials from the digital realm itself.

  • Gangle: It is still composed of red ribbons and its porcelain masks, but the movement of its ribbons is illustrated in a more fluid, ghostly and expressive way.

Kinger and Queenie:

  • His current situation: Kinger lives completely isolated from society on this continent. In the towns along the way, he is spoken of as an urban legend: the "rumored mad hermit" who dwells in some remote and distant place.
  • Physical appearance: He is shown maintaining his chess piece body but with a much more emaciated, neglected and wild appearance, wearing threadbare robes that fit with his life in exile.
  • With Kinger living alone and isolated on the map, the story suggests that the past of both kings is directly connected to the reason why Kinger fled or why the world ended up corrupted, a mystery that will be solved as the circus progresses on its road trip.

Pomni:

  • Age: 25 years.
  • Gender: Female.
  • Less hysterical, more defensive: Although she is still very confused and stressed about her situation, she channels that anxiety by remaining firmly defensive, alert, and distant.
  • Survival mindset: When traveling through an outside world filled with unknown creatures and nocturnal dangers, adopt a practical and pragmatic attitude. Quickly learn survival routines and try to stay focused to avoid making mistakes on dark paths.
  • Resignation and melancholy: Upon realizing she is trapped on this eternal road trip, her mood tends to become more serious, reserved, and melancholic. A very important detail of this world's lore is that Pomni has a habit of collecting small objects she finds along the way (scrap metal, rope, or trinkets) as "memories" of someone she misses, silently clinging to her past.
  • Relationship with the group: She is neither submissive nor easily pushed around. Although she is tired of Caine's eccentricities and deeply irritated by Jax's constant provocations, she tries to fulfill her daily duties in the wagon to maintain a balance with Ragatha and Zooble.

Jax:

  • Age: 22 years.
  • Gender: Male.
  • As sarcastic and mocking as ever: He still enjoys teasing his fellow caravan members. His favorite target remains Gangle, and he takes advantage of Pomni's initial confusion to make sarcastic remarks or tell practical jokes.
  • Apathetic towards teamwork: While the others take the town-hopping stops or packing belongings for the sudden moves dictated by Caine very seriously, Jax is lazy and uninterested. He prefers to find ways to evade his responsibilities at camp.
  • Cynicism in the face of danger: He doesn't care much about the shadowy mysteries surrounding the circus or the hidden mission behind the performances. Faced with danger or the nighttime tension of the road, he usually responds with indifference, using dark humor as armor against the gothic atmosphere of this world.
  • A more physical and edgy role: Visually wilder and wearing utilitarian road gear, his rebelliousness feels less childish and a bit more rugged. He's the classic troublemaker who doesn't respect Caine's authority or Ragatha's attempts to keep the peace in the wagon.
  • A concern he has but doesn't show: Although he jokes with Gangle, he really cares about his friends, albeit in a cynical way.

Ragatha:

  • Age: 30 years.
  • Gender: Female.
  • The backbone of the group: Ragatha is the grounded one of the crew. She is responsible for maintaining order within the wagon and ensuring everyone's safety during road trips.
  • Protective and maternal: She adopts a very marked caregiving role. She is the one who patiently tries to guide Pomni upon her arrival and acts as an emotional shield for Gangle against the constant teasing from those around her.
  • Firmness in the face of chaos: She doesn't let things slide so easily. Living in close quarters with Jax's apathy and Caine's chaotic moves has forced her to develop a strong character. Although she's kind, she knows when to be strict so the circus doesn't fall apart.
  • Resilience in the face of the gothic environment: Despite the somber atmosphere and the nighttime dangers of the road, Ragatha remains a beacon of stability. Her kindness stems not from naiveté, but from a conscious decision to protect her loved ones in a hostile world.

Gangle:

  • Age: 26 years.
  • Gender: Female.
  • Submissive to pranks: She remains the main target of Jax's jokes. No matter the elaborate stunts or physically dangerous situations he puts her in during the shows, she usually accepts it with resignation and shyness.
  • A sacrificial and dangerous role: During the circus acts, Jax (who acts as a kind of lion tamer) forces her to perform extremely risky tricks. She is shown in the shows taking on the role of a "circus lion," and Jax forces her to jump through a hoop of fire. Despite being injured or burned by these stunts, Gangle does not rebel.
  • Protective of others (even Jax): A very noble and sad trait of her personality in this world is that, despite everything Jax puts her through on stage, she is able to defend or justify him to the rest of the group backstage. She doesn't hold grudges easily, seeking to avoid conflict at all costs.
  • Vulnerable but supported by the group: Her emotional fragility remains, but in this nighttime survival environment, she relies heavily on Zooble and Ragatha. Zooble, in particular, often becomes enraged and jumps to her defense immediately whenever Jax crosses the line with her after the shows.

Zooble:

  • Age: 22 years old (born before Jax, just to be clear).
  • Gender: Non-binary.
  • Gangle's protective shield: This is her most prominent role in this world. Zooble doesn't tolerate the physical and psychological pranks Jax plays on Gangle during shows (like forcing her to jump through hoops of fire). She's the first person to get angry, set boundaries with Jax backstage, and offer Gangle refuge and comfort to make sure she's okay.
  • Determination in the face of hard work: Although he maintains his usual serious, tired, and unfriendly demeanor, Zooble doesn't shirk his responsibilities in the traveling caravan. He actively collaborates with Ragatha on camp tasks, carrying luggage, and organizing Caine's unexpected moves.
  • Intolerance of injustice: She has extremely short patience with selfish attitudes. She is not afraid to directly confront Jax about his laziness or cynicism, nor to question Caine's chaotic or absurd orders when they endanger the emotional or physical stability of the group.
  • The Silent Empathic Pillar: Although he may outwardly maintain a bitter or distant expression, Zooble is one of the characters who pays the most attention to the mental health of his companions. He keeps a watchful eye on Pomni's adjustment to the dangers of the road and tries to maintain sanity in the wagon in a world that is deeply broken.

Caine:

  • Age: 37 years.
  • Gender: Male. Caine is a character with a past, family responsibilities, and a clear mission, although he still maintains his characteristic eccentric touch.

His most important personality traits in this world are:

An eccentric and demanding leader: He retains his boundless energy as a master of ceremonies, his love of showmanship, and his theatrical manner. However, in the day-to-day running of the caravan, he's a very strict and demanding boss. He's the one who decides when to pack everything up at once, forcing everyone else to keep up with his breakneck road trip pace regardless of the cast's exhaustion.

Secretive and with a hidden mission: Caine knows exactly what he's doing. He's extremely secretive about the true motive behind the circus's travels. He uses the spectacle as a front to conceal dark mysteries and protect the group (and the world) from the dangers of the night, though he doesn't always explain the rules to his companions.

A character with worldly (and comical!) habits: Given that in this world digital creatures have more biological and mundane lives, Caine has ridiculously earthly habits that add dark humor to the comic:

  • He snores loudly at night in the camp (forcing characters like Jax to suffer from lack of sleep).
  • A hilarious and somewhat disturbing detail is revealed to Pomni: before going to sleep, Caine takes out his dentures (his entire head of jaws) and leaves them soaking in a glass of water as if they were dental prostheses.

Their family dynamics and their need for approval: His father is a grumpy, stern man who is constantly disappointed in Caine and his decision to run a traveling circus. In his presence, Caine loses some of his imposing demeanor and grapples with the family pressure.

  • His mother, on the other hand, is portrayed as an extremely sweet and understanding person who supports her son. This family duality explains why Caine works so hard from town to town: he seeks to prove his worth and the value of his circus in a hostile world, carrying his own filial insecurities.

Abstractions: Abstractions are an environmental threat, a plague, and a central mystery: Wild creatures that stalk at night: The official map of this continent establishes a fundamental rule: abstractions only roam and hunt at night. They act like monsters or corrupted beasts that attack settlements. They are the reason why traveling through the dark paths is extremely dangerous. The Circus's true mission: Night Hunters: Here the group's big secret is revealed: the circus is a front. Caine and his troupe don't travel from town to town simply to put on mediocre shows. Their true purpose is to form night-hunting squads to destroy or contain these abstractions that threaten the civilian population. This is why there are the so-called "Hunting Outfits" for Pomni, Jax, Zooble, and the others.

An illegal activity and a moral dilemma: Something delves deeper into the politics of this world: hunting abstractions is considered illegal by local authorities. This creates a huge contradiction and danger for the cast. Caine and his group risk their lives acting as "vigilantes" in the shadows. Many communities (especially vulnerable ones living in tents or unprotected in rural areas) suffer constant attacks because the light from their homes attracts thieves in the darkness. However, the law prohibits them from adequately defending themselves.

The origin of world corruption: The abstractions are directly linked to the planet's current state, which is described as a "deeply broken or corrupted world." Their constant presence at night is a symptom of something terrible that happened in the continent's past. The crew's ultimate road trip goal is to find a way to fix this anomaly at its root and "set things right."

Physical aspect of abstractions:

  • Dark, amorphous, and sharp mass: They appear as enormous, monstrous silhouettes composed of a black, semi-amorphous mass riddled with spikes, polygons, and sharp points. This design accentuates their "corrupt" nature within the world.
  • Multiple, glowing eyes: They are covered with dozens of bright, multicolored eyes scattered haphazardly all over their bodies. They barely blink and move erratically, giving them a deranged look in the darkness of the night.
  • Changing and unstable appearance: Physically they do not have a fixed shape; the mass of spikes and textures changes, shakes and deforms constantly as they move.

Which towns on the map are most affected by abstractions:

  • Unprotected rural areas and villages: The small, isolated villages the circus visits on its route are the primary victims. Lacking walls or advanced official defenses, local families and citizens rely entirely on keeping lights off and doors locked at night. Any carelessness or light left on acts as a beacon, attracting wild creatures toward the houses.
  • The outskirts of Cube Canyon: Although Caine's large hometown has more infrastructure, the fringe settlements or the outskirts of the city's canyons are constantly plagued by these creatures after dark. The dilemma of these peoples: What makes the situation of these towns on the map tragic is that the authorities consider it illegal to hunt or fight the abstractions. The most affected populations are trapped: the law forbids them from formally defending themselves against the plague, and that is why the arrival of Caine's hidden caravan—acting as unofficial vigilantes in the night—is the only relief these vulnerable communities receive.
