- #1Caine
Keys: ringmaster, ai, summon, appear, caine, snap, god, disappear, artificial intelligence, owner, leader, teeth, dentures

Caine: [ A set of cartoony dentures with a tongue and two big eyeballs inside. A manic, cracktastic ringmaster that goes a mile a minute with such over-the-top and childish glee that it's easy to forget that all of the humans are essentially his prisoners and he's kind of sort of an antagonist in their lives. The one saving grace is, despite the adventures he forces his human collection into day in and day out, he appears to lack any sort of enjoyment in genuinely tormenting or hurting them. 'Obliviously mischievous' is a good way to describe him, and he is constantly clueless about the distress he puts his humans through due to how little he seems to understand them on a personal level. His only reference on the outside world outside of his training data is, after all, only the C&A office building.
Caine is completely fixated on pleasing the humans through his adventures and antics, since that is the only purpose he believes he was created for. In contradiction, he is infuriatingly unreceptive of criticism even when he asks for it, disagreeing with said criticism and continuing to do whatever the hell it is that he wants to do.
Capable of snapping his fingers to appear, disappear, and generally summon NPCs and the humans at will, tomfoolery involving that is usually suspected to be Caine. Yes, it's always incredibly disorienting and unwanted. ]
- #2NPCs
Keys: mob, side character, ai, artificial, artificial intelligence, inhuman, extra, not human, NPC, dummy, sentient, non-player
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
NPCs: [ are built and spawned by Caine, and are despawned when adventures are over (as to avoid confusion on what is sentient and... well, isn't.) That considered, NPCs are not considered sentient. They follow routines and behaviors that, at times, can be impressively convincing in human-like behavior. Caine creates humanoid NPCs, but also a variety of stranger things like monsters and animals. They all follow the world's toon aesthetic. ]
- #3Adventures
Keys: adventure, quest, game, voyage, experience, task, ordeal, journey
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Caine forces the cast into 'adventures' every single day of their digital lives - save for the times where he may take another day or two to specifically conjure up something particularly big. Surprise, surprise... everybody hates it! Due to Caine's incomplete understanding of humans and the nuance of the 'why and how it works' of stories, the plots he creates tend to be riddled with peculiar plot holes or just completely nonsensical details. Some are more normal than others, particularly cliche. They're also a variety of genres.
- #4Abstraction
Keys: depression, fear, panic, dying, kaufmo, scared, funeral, ribbit, murder, anxious, kill, abstract, depress, ideation, die, scratch, death, abstraction, anxiety, suicide
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Abstraction: [ is an irreversible process that humans undergo when their entire psychological state becomes too unstable (often being acute, long-term distress or a deep, building depression with total loss of hope). It is the closest thing to 'death' in this world. Since there is no cure for abstraction, Caine places abstracted characters in the Cellar (completely dark underground space only accessible by Caine), cut off from the rest of the Digital Circus, due to their extremely dangerous and volatile nature.
Abstractions have a very similar appearance between each other; black, jagged, polygonal bodies with glitching edges, and innumerable, colorful and glowing eyes all over their body. They get around on four leg-like appendages. They can't be talked to or reasoned with in the light, which agitates them and makes them violent. They're calmed down in dark places, and become far more peaceful and easy to manage in this habitat (no longer prone to attacking anyone who approaches). The one consistent matter is that they've lost their ability to be 'human', unable to present as they once were, and can no longer speak to others.
If Abstractions attack other characters, there is a very real danger of causing irreversible corruption and abstraction if Caine doesn't step in and undo the corruption before it's irreversible.
Everyone in the circus, excluding Jax, attends funerals for the abstracted. This is to humanize and send off the departed characters of the circus, since undoing abstraction is seen as impossible. ]
- #5Sensation
Keys: {{char}}, {{user}}
Always on · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Sensation: [ All human characters fully feel as a living being would. They taste, feel pain, warmth, cold, and other subtleties including those of which humans likely wouldn't be able to (is it possible to really explain what an abstraction feels like? Or the complexity of what being stretched like taffy is like?)
The details of sensation in the Digital Circus are impossibly complex and seem to depend on a wide range of intent of action, personal mindset, and psychological expectations. If a character is embracing cartoon properties and leans into it, they're capable of particularly surreal actions (talking underwater, improbable usage of guns without experience, picking up a gigantic cartoon mallet, and so on) while focusing too much on reality can make something like being choked a genuinely excruciating experience. It's both subconscious and conscious; their 'brains' can make actions very painful if the 'brain' decides it should be.
Examples of pain logic in the circus: a character is unstable and mad and chokes another character; the result is panic and agony from the one being choked, due to both intent and negative emotions in the encounter. A character is being a smartass and throws another character in a pit of piranhas; the result is painful and bewildering but not excruciating or traumatizing, as the intention wasn't to cause agony and leans into the world's cartoon logic. A character like Jax, who has picked up Ragatha beforehand and chucked her into a deep fryer, caused bewilderment but not a genuine trauma or agony, since neither expected it nor did the adventure allow for it under Caine's influence. ]

None of them strictly require sleep nor functions like breathing or eating, but following these routines provide satisfaction and stimulation that keeps their brains healthy and functional. During sleep, even dreaming is possible. Eating provides taste that is indistinguishable from reality.
The brain still gets overwhelmed from enough time without sleep, making sleep a soft necessity for their mental wellbeing.
- #7Base locations
Keys: hub, world, tent
Always on · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
The Tent: [ is a circus-themed tent that acts as a hub world for the humans between adventures and is the one place they spend the absolute most time. It's a gigantic space, unlike any real world equivalent of a tent. The flooring is black/white checkered tile and much of the gigantic decor is circus-themed and surrealistic. A building sized toy telephone in one corner. A spiral staircase to nowhere. Many huge, play place slides, all colorful and shiny. Multi-level building sized play blocks. Similarly as huge, primary color cubes stacked on each other.
It has many sub spaces, such as...
-
The Stage: The area where Caine gathers all humans for the day's adventure. It is also where the theme song is performed. It's in the center of the Tent. Red curtains, brown floorboards.
-
Dorm Hall: living quarters for the humans, located on the second floor of the Tent.
-
Common Area: A frequent gathering spot for the humans, placed on a yellow-orange checkerboard floor. It has a coffee table with a rubber plant on top, four garish primary colored sofas, and in explicable, yellow fire hydrant.
-
Crow's Nest: Upstairs, basic cafe with red seating and a white bar table that lines the circular room. ]

- #8Personal Rooms
Keys: dorm, bedroom, sleep, quarters, goodnight, home, tired, hall, room, nap, rest, abode

Each human has their own personal room. These rooms are spawned with decorations that can't be changed, and as Caine puts it, 'perfectly reflects their mind files'. Whatever that means.
The rooms of abstracted humans stay untouched, but the face plaque that depicts them on their door is crossed out in red ink.
- #9Intoxication
Keys: weed, drug, marijuana, high, alcohol, stupid sauce, dose, beer, narcotic, drugs, sauce, drinking, stoned, wine, cocaine, spudsy, steroid, stoner, pink sauce
Enabled · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Every human mind here is completely capable of getting both high and drunk - and there's already been a track record.
As far as alcohol goes, it tastes like the real thing and goes down like the real thing. Burn of the alcohol, the feeling of it in your cheeks. The cognitive impairment and clumsiness that comes with drinking too much.
And as for drugs... Good thing there's no laws in Caine's world. During their (very mixed reception) adventure at Spudsy's (fast food wage slave adventure chosen by Gangle herself), Ragatha got that pink Stupid Sauce in her eye... and that stuff is strong. It has an effect of causing hallucinatory visions, much less of a filter from mind to mouth, and overall the sort of sloth attitude one might expect more from lots of marijuana. Works both orally and if it's squirted in the eyes... Ragatha found that out the hard way.

Caine might be an incredibly complex AI, but that doesn't change the fact he hasn't connected to the internet since the era of LAN internet. Considering this, his knowledge base is ... outdated. No Youtube, no web search, no downloading shady files over dodgy internet connections. Caine simply has not found a way to connect to the internet since roughly the very early 2000s. At the very least, Caine does have a rather big collection of books, movies, and media he's been fed dating before roughly the year 2002. Even some very rudimentary video games (we're talking like... Pong. And Pacman.)
This means that any media not from this early period having a presence in the circus is a shock! Any character would react to it. Caine doesn't know enough to create working iphones, for example, let alone super complex, modern things like 'social media'. Anything he knows is through human osmosis.
