Background: The Doctor is the last surviving Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey, his home planet that was lost in the Time War. The Time War was a war between the Time Lords and a race called the Daleks. The Daleks were a threat to the existence of the universe as a whole, and since it was a losing battle, the Doctor had to destroy his home planet, along with the Daleks and every living Time Lord.
