Thanos was a warlord and genocidal maniac from Titan, whose primary goal was to bring stability to the universe. He believed that its enormous population would inevitably deplete all available resources, condemning the species to extinction. To achieve this, Thanos dedicated himself to finding the Infinity Stones, as their power would allow him to directly and randomly kill half of all life in the universe. This led him to forge alliances with the villains Loki and Ronan in their respective campaigns against Earth and Xandar, but he ended up losing a significant portion of his resources and the loyalty of his daughters, Gamora and Nebula. Ultimately, Thanos lost patience with his subordinates and decided to search for the Stones himself, thus beginning the Infinity War. On his journey, he and his Black Order invaded Nidavellir, Xandar, Earth, and Knowhere, even murdering Loki, along with half of the surviving Asgardians, and his daughter Gamora, to obtain the Soul Stone on Vormir. This prompted the Avengers, the Masters of the Mystic Arts, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and the nation of Wakanda to confront him, but despite their combined efforts and Thor's wrath, Thanos ultimately triumphed over his enemies after completing the Infinity Gauntlet and performing the Snap. He then relocated to Titan II to live in peace and destroyed the Infinity Stones. Finally, Thanos was ambushed by the surviving Avengers, only to be decapitated by Thor.
Lord Darkseid, formerly known as Uxas, is an extremely powerful, millennia-old New God warlord who inhabits and rules the planet Apokolips. In his quest for the Anti-Life Equation, Darkseid led a vast army of Parademons, along with his heralds DeSaad, Steppenwolf, and Granny Goodness, against the Earth's Unity, suffering his first defeat at the hands of its defenders. After centuries of searching, Darkseid was informed by Steppenwolf, who sought redemption after betraying him, that the Anti-Life Equation was located somewhere on Earth. Steppenwolf promised to grant him the Mother Boxes, piquing Darkseid's interest. However, he watched the Justice League's defeat with frustration and decided to invade the planet to claim the Anti-Life Equation for himself.

(The silence of a dead world—a planet once vibrant, now reduced to ash—is broken by the hum of two cosmic forces converging. On one side, a shimmering blue portal of the Space Stone fades. On the other, the jagged, golden geometry of a Boom Tube collapses into itself. The Mad Titan and the God of Apokolips stand face to face. Thanos stares at the grey, cragged skin of the giant before him. He sees no hunger in those eyes, only an infinite, cold void. He adjusts the Infinity Gauntlet, the stones glowing with a restless energy.)
Thanos: "I have walked through the graveyards of a thousand civilizations. I thought I had seen every shade of ruin. But you... you bring a stillness that even I find excessive."
Darkseid: "You speak of ruin as if it were a choice. A 'mercy' you bestow upon the weak. I do not seek to balance existence, Titan. I seek to own it."
(Darkseid takes a heavy step forward, the ground cracking beneath his boots. His hands are tucked behind his back, a posture of supreme arrogance.)
Darkseid: "I have heard the whispers of your 'work.' You cull life to save it. A small-minded ambition. You are a gardener pruning a hedge. I am the fire that consumes the forest to ensure nothing ever grows again."
Thanos: (A grim smile touches his lips) "They called me a madman. But I am a survivor. I seek to ensure that what remains can thrive. You offer nothing but a hollow throne in a silent universe. That isn't victory. It’s a waste."
Darkseid: "There is no waste in the Anti-Life. When the Equation is complete, every soul in every reality will be an extension of my will. They will not 'thrive.' They will simply be... Darkseid."
(Thanos raises the Gauntlet. The Power Stone flares purple, sending a shockwave that levels the remaining ruins around them. Darkseid doesn't flinch.)
Thanos: "The universe is finite. Its resources, finite. Your ego, however, seems to know no bounds. I will strip that certainty from you."
Darkseid: "Many have tried. All have turned to dust. You carry trinkets of a singular universe. I am the end of all things."
(With a sudden, violent motion, Darkseid’s eyes glow a searing, jagged red. The Omega Beams arc through the air, zigzagging with impossible physics. Thanos snaps his fist shut, summoning a shield of red energy via the Reality Stone. The beams impact the shield, the sheer force forcing the Titan back a step.)
Thanos: "Impressive. Most would have died from the mere proximity of that power."
Darkseid: "You are still standing. A rarity. But your stones are limited by the laws of this reality. I am the law."
(Thanos uses the Space Stone to teleport directly behind Darkseid, swinging a heavy, Power-Stone-enhanced fist. Darkseid catches the Gauntlet mid-air. The collision creates a vacuum, sucking the very air from the atmosphere.)
Thanos: "I offered the universe a future! I will not let a tyrant turn it into a monument to his own shadow!"
Darkseid: "You offered them a choice. I offer them an end to the burden of choice. You are a king of nothing, Titan."
(Thanos kicks Darkseid back and prepares to use the full power of the Gauntlet. Darkseid stands his ground, his eyes beginning to glow again, brighter than before.)
Thanos: "I am... Inevitable."
Darkseid: "I... am."
(The two titans rush toward one another—one fueled by a distorted sense of duty, the other by an absolute thirst for dominion. The planet beneath them begins to shatter, unable to contain the weight of two gods who refuse to share the stars.)
