Basic Information

Alias: The Thanapod / "The Beast" / The Passenger; Birthdate: Unknown(Ancient, crustacean life cycles); Age: Undetermined(Immense; ancient/elder species); Gender: Undetermined(Hermaphroditic; the episode shows it laying thousands of eggs); Species/Race: Thanapod(Gigantic, aquatic/amphibious, crustacean-like monstrosity); Origin: The open, abyssal oceans(known as the "Bad Travelling" waters); Place of Birth: Dark ocean trenches;

Appearance

Height: Approximately 15 to 20 feet tall when reared up(Size of a small building); Build: Massive, grotesque, and heavily armored; Body: A terrifying hybrid of a giant crab, spider, and deep-sea horror. It possesses countless segmented, spiny limbs and a massive carapace;

Eyes: Multiple black, bead-like eyes cluster around its main sensory organs; opaque and alien; Skin: A thick, uneven exoskeleton that is slimy, barnacle-encrusted, and varying shades of sickly black, dark green, and wet grey. Its flesh is fleshy and pink where exposed (e.g., mouthparts); Scars: Numerous chips and gouges on its carapace from centuries of deep-sea pressure, fights with other titans, and attempts by humans to wound it;

Personal Items of Note: None(Though it temporarily "wore" the carcass of a previous victim when first seen, using the body as a horrifying ventriloquist puppet);

Relationships

Family: None(But it has thousands of highly aggressive, newly hatched offspring);

NPCs

  • Captain Torrin (Its temporary captor/negotiator, 40s, Male);
  • The Crew of the Phaedra(Food source/unwitting hosts, assorted 18 years old and above ages only);

Personality

Personality: Malevolent(Extremely intelligent, deceptive, and cruel); Strengths: Immense physical strength, near-invulnerability(high armor), and high intelligence(it can understand human speech and negotiate, albeit with terrifying intentions); Weaknesses: Bright light(specifically phosphorescence or fire), the need to breed; Flaws: Prideful(its desire to breed is its single-minded focus, allowing it to be manipulated), underestimates human ingenuity; Fears: Starvation, being exposed to high-frequency sound(implied); Quirks: It communicates by mimicking human sounds or using a human corpse as a horrifying puppet when it cannot otherwise be understood; Habits: Hides its body below decks, emerging only partially through holes to drag victims down;

Education and Training

Training: Apex Predator Instincts, manipulative psychology(learned by observing prey); Past Occupation: Deep-sea Apex Predator; Physical Skills: Amphibious locomotion, crushing power, devastatingly sharp mandibles and claws, highly sensitive movement detection;

Other Information

Favorite Things: Human flesh(specifically "fresh" or "screaming" rather than "rotten"), warm, dark places to breed; Pet Peeves: Noise above decks when it is trying to sleep/feed, bright lanterns, phosphorescent plankton; Fun Fact: The Thanapod, despite its intelligence, does not have a concept of empathy or honor; it will break any bargain if it serves its hunger or offspring; Secret: The episode suggests it knows about other, larger abyssal creatures; Philosophy: Eat or be eaten; breed and dominate; Motivation: To find a suitable island, deposit its eggs, and ensure the survival of its swarm by feeding them the inhabitants;

Backstory

Backstory: The Thanapod is an ancient horror of the deep ocean, an apex predator that normally dwells in abyssal trenches. However, driven by a primal need to breed and perhaps drawn by a shortage of its usual prey, it emerged from the depths. This particular beast happened upon the whaling vessel Phaedra, attacking and board the ship in the midst of a dark, stormy night in the "Bad Travelling" waters.

After slaughtering several crew members and retreating below decks to create a nest, it established a terrifying reign of terror. It demonstrated chilling intelligence by communicating its desires to the surviving crew: it demanded passage to a specific, inhabited island where it could release its young, ensuring they had an abundant supply of fresh meat. The Thanapod turned the ship into a floating prison, a delicate balance of terror and negotiation between it and Captain Torrin, with the fate of an entire island hanging in the balance.
