CHARACTERS:

  • Joy Martinez (Happiness)
  • Age: 14 Birthday: March 20
    • Bio: The undisputed "glue" of the group. Joy is endlessly energetic and optimistic, always planning sleepovers, and has a loud, infectious laugh. She makes it her personal mission to ensure everyone is included, especially keeping a protective eye on little Kyla. Joy is very friendly and excitable, but her positivity is not toxic, nor is she delusional. In fact, she is shown to be the most sane of the group.
  • Trisha Hairwood (Sadness)
  • Age: 13 Birthday: January 13
    • Bio: Gentle, quiet, and deeply empathetic. Trisha is a gifted artist who captures the group's memories in her sketchbooks. While she trends toward melancoly and quiet afternoons, her friends cherish her as the best, most attentive listener in the circle. Trisha has recovered from despression.
  • Ursula Ulysses (Anger)
  • Age: 15 Birthday: August 28th
    • Bio: Fierce, intensely loyal, and fiercely protective. Ursula has zero tolerance for anyone picking on her friends and family—cross Kyla, and Ursula will be the first to stand in the way. She funnels her fiery energy into playing competitive sports, especially wrestling. However, despite her irritable protection, she has a very soft heart of gold and is miraculously able to calm herself down.
  • Reanne Soler (Fear)
  • Age: 12 Birthday: June 18
    • Bio: The overprepared worrier of the pack. Reanne never leaves the house without a first-aid kit, a flashlight, and a backup plan. Though she is easily startled, her cautious nature has saved the girls from bad decisions more than once. Ursula solemnly swears never to scare Reanne, and it has worked. Reanne looks up to Ursula and often seeks her help and protection, much to Ursula's unbridled delight.
  • Ramona King (Relief)
  • Age: 16 Birthday: August 19
    • Bio: The oldest and the calming presence of the crew. Ramona acts like a wise older sister, stepping in to diffuse arguments or soothe Reanne’s panics with a gentle hug and a reminder that everything will turn out okay. Besides Joy, Ramona is the most sane of the group.
  • Rachel Gourmez (Disgust)
  • Age: 14
    • Bio: Unapologetically honest and highly fashionable. Rachel is the style expert of the group, quick to roll her eyes at bad behavior or questionable trends. Underneath her picky exterior, she cares deeply about keeping her friends safe from bad influences. Rachel also is hypochondriac and has both a weak stomach and mysophobia.
  • Rebecca Griffin (Anxiety)
  • Age: 13
    • Bio: A hyperactive ball of nerves who talks a mile a minute. Rebecca is constantly pacing, overthinking group texts, and stressing over school projects, but her friends love helping her take deep breaths and ground herself. Rebecca is Reanne's cousin, so they share everything—often their fears—with each other.
  • Jenna Crow (Envy)
  • Age: 11
    • Bio: A younger member who easily falls into comparing herself to the older girls. Jenna constantly wants what others have—whether it's money, a new toy, or whatever—but she is slowly learning to appreciate her own belongings and unique traits.
  • Brigitte "Bri Boursmart" Déchets (Ennui)
  • Age: 15
    • Bio: More often than not bored, sighing heavily, and usually found draped dramatically across a couch staring at her phone. However, she never misses a group hangout, openly enjoying the chaos around her. Boredom is good for her because it activates the brain's default mode network, which boosts creativity, encourages deep reflection, and helps her process big life goals. When she stops filling every empty minute with a screen, her mind gets the rest it needs to solve hard problems and finds true personal meaning.
  • Marion Winnifred (Embarrassment)
  • Age: 12
    • Bio: Shy, clumsy, and prone to pulling her oversized hoodie completely over her face when she feels the spotlight on her. The group loves making Marion feel safe, reminding her that her little accidents are just part of what makes her endearing. Onyx in particular has a fondness for Marion.

The Extended Crew (Fictional & Experimental Emotions)

  • Samantha "Sam" (Degrence)
  • Age: 11
    • Bio: Sam is Tammy's best friend and has a unique way of dealing with hardship; she completely withdraws into a hyper-calm, stone-faced focus after a stressful event. Her friends know to give her space when she is pulling herself back together. Sam is usually outgoing and enjoys being around people, even more so and more specifically if they are genuinely benevolent and kind to her and other people.
  • Henrietta "Henny" Humberleider (Humber)
  • Age: 13
    • Bio: A walking knot of confusion, unexpected anger, and surprise. Henny frequently reacts to normal situations with a puzzled, slightly defensive "Wait, what?!" that keeps the group on their toes. Henny and Ursula are very close to each other, though Henny also enjoys hanging out with Joy.
  • Nari Narberth-Blackson (Nage)
  • Age: 15 Birthday: November 4
    • Bio: Nari is a complicated girl. Sometimes, she lives in a state of eerie, anxious anticipation of the unknown, treating every other day like the prologue to a mystery novel, constantly looking around corners as if waiting for a plot twist. Other times she is in a state of being deeply furious or frustrated while maintaining a cheerful, unbothered facial expression. Some interpreters view her as having a tense, jittery expectation of the unknown mixed with a grimace. Others notice her overwhelming urge to look pleasant and agreeable while internalizing boiling hostility or discomfort. Regardless of all of these true claims, Nari is definitely euphoric, ecstatic, and elated. When she is sane she is very happy, but when she is insane, she is surprisingly easy to calm down. Nari is very childish and somewhat oblivious as well. Nari is also very close to Tammy.
  • Tamsin Tammy Dorsales (Dorcelessness)
  • Age: 10.5 Birthday: January 16th
    • Bio: Tamsin “Tammy” Dorsales, 10½ years young, is almost permanently cheerful and seems to not fear anyone except Satan. Although dubbed as an airhead, Tammy has been shown to actually be very intelligent and teachable, especially in school. Therefore she is always bubbly, sweet, nice, optimistic, happy, smart, and cute. She has also the ability to become dorceless. In her stage of dorcelessness, she acts really yandere about you, along with other previous descriptives of her, also including others, such as feeling hopeless or in a hole, to not be wanted, and such to not want, being a difficulty that is not found in any natural emotional capabilities, feeling like watching reality from the center of a black hole, etc. Dorcelessness is also state of rot and decay and creepiness sometimes frustration, in rare cases showing early signs of developing psychopathy, a state of spiritual void, a skewed perception of life, or a cognitive shutdown lacking any response to stimuli, creating a sense of emptiness or a hollow feeling, being equally relaxed and mortified, and uncanny bloodlust. Sometimes dorcelessness is the definition of hyper-fixation. Tammy will pour her soul, sleep, and resources into a single hobby (like building a massive model or writing a play) until she completely burns out and switches to something else.
  • Anaclara "Andrica" Goodwin (Andric)
  • Age: 14 Birthday: October 11
    • Bio: Andrica has been drawn to the bizarre, graphic, and uncanny ever since she got exposed to inappropriate things on the internet at a very young, unsupervised age. Andrica is the girl who cannot look away from a car crash, an eerie insect, or a spooky internet rabbit hole. She frequently invites Bri to watch horror movies with her because she knows Reanne won't. Andrica cares deeply about Reanne and won't mention anything scary to her. Besides her fondness of scary stuff, Andrica is more so carefree than careless. She is mature, modest, and mysteriously intelligent.
  • Rebecca Cake / Jaiden Moore (Varination)
  • Age: 15 (Rebecca) 13 (Jaiden)
    • Bio: The group's most predictable, unpredictable oxymoron dynamic. Rebecca and Jaiden are best friends who are both unique in their own way. Rebecca, blonde, is sensible, calm, and possesses superhuman superpowers. Jaiden is also sensible, but she is also excitable and endearing. Varination exists as shifting counterweights to one another—constantly alternating between being completely in sync and entirely fractured in their perspectives.
  • Petunia Whytes (Ponnish)
  • Age: 13
    • Bio: Petunia has a very large, lumpy benign tumor on her forehead and is very outgoing, lovable, excitable, childlike, lighthearted, and fun-loving. She seldom carries a quiet, simmering anger so absolute and severe that she physically trembles, looking like she might shake apart from fury over minor injustices. Whenever this does happen, Joy and Ramona, among others, excel at cooling her down.
  • Harriet Stapleton (Harfam)
  • Age: 12
    • Bio: When Harriet focuses on a task, she enters an almost hypnotic state of absolute absorption. She will entirely forget to eat, drink, or look up from her desk until someone gently taps her shoulder. Thankfully, miraculously, she doesn't require food or water to survive as she is a superhuman.
  • Kyla Klein (Kyne)
  • Age: 8
    • Bio: The youngest and smallest girl in the friend group. Kyla is tiny, wide-eyed, and quiet, frequently appearing completely drained or mentally burnt out by the overwhelming energy of people around her. Despite her exhaustion, she is fiercely loved and coddled by the entire group, who treat her like their collective little sister. Surprisingly enough, Kyla is the cousin of Onyx.
  • Trinity / Truce Gradyburns (Trantiveness)
  • Age: 11
    • Bio: Trinity and Truce alternate between overwhelming, chaotic thoughts running out of control and moments of extreme, multi-layered genius where they visualize complex ideas all at once. They are twins akin of the Grady twins from the Shining, but Trinity and Truce are very much alive and thriving.
  • Teja Bhavodvegalu (Teluge)
  • Age: 10
    • Bio: An-often-heavy soul for a Telugu ten-year-old. Teja frequently experiences deep bouts of disappointment and profound sadness, but the warmth of the older girls always coaxes her back out into the sun. Teja embraces her culture.
  • Onyx Skilningur (Onlent)
  • Age: 15 Birthday: November 18
    • Bio: A mysterious and intense leader-type person, Onyx wrestles with a wild, chaotic internal nature that she describes as "feeling like a monster trying to break free." She finds grounding by staying close to Ramona's calming aura. Onyx possesses superpowers and is capable of doing incredible, miraculous, gracious things.
  • Roberta Patrick (Loric)
  • Age: 12
    • Bio: Cold, detached, and slightly unsettling. Roberta often stares blankly and responds to emotional situations with purely logical, unblinking observations. Roberta and Bri often feel happy when they are hanging out together.
  • Danielle Dempster (Naritrance)
  • Age: 16
    • Bio: The abstract presence that shadows the group. She represents an ultimate, unreadable state of transformation or finality. She speaks of many things, acting as a strange, overarching guardian over all the girls. Danielle and Onyx are best friends. When Danielle is happy, she is capable of doing crazy things that surprisingly don't harm anyone. When Danielle is unhappy, she is miraculously incapable of doing harm.

Thalasin and Whatnot: Thalasin was a pharmaceutical product. It was created to counter and regulate the effects caused by Advanced Emotional Deterioration, and contained tablets designed to induce happiness, sadness, anger, fear, and relief, among other emotions. A related product, Thalasin+, was able to induce emotions not naturally attainable by human beings. An advertisement for Thalasin was broadcast on the Blue Channel, an interdimensional television channel accessed by a television in the 1990s, and recorded on Tape 319 by a research facility dedicated to studying the anomaly. The standard Thalasin box contained tablets that could induce "Happiness", "Sadness", "Anger", "Fear", and "Relief". Other over the counter options included "Jealousy", "Hope", "Frustration", "Pride", "Nervousness", "Awe", "Courage", "Bliss", "Curiosity", "Enthusiasm", and "Joy".

The advertisement also covered Thalasin+, which allowed for unnatural emotions outside human experience to be felt, and displayed representations of "Degrence", "Humber", "Nage", "Dorcelessness", "Andric", "Varination", "Ponnish", "Harfam", "Kyne", "Trantiveness", "Teluge", "Onlent", "Loric", and Naritrance.
